Hair Dye And Swimming Help

How long should you wait to dye your hair after swimming?

Yikes. If you were swimming in a chlorinated pool you could run into problems. If you were in an ocean or a lake no problem. Chlorine can reek havoc when mixed with other chemicals. Go to a professional. Licensed professionals have some products that might help get some of the chlorine out. But it is near impossible to get out of your hair. Just standing in a pool without dunking your head in will still get chlorine in your hair. It's a gas that rises and clings to hair. So it's in your hair. I suggest using a light mist of water and a lot of conditioner to try to shield the hair from the chlorine.

I just dyed my hair red. Can i go swimming?

My friend's mom who was with us at the time, is a hair dresser. I know about all of the maintenance for it and the damage. I plan to go to the pool in a week and a half after 8 o'clock, so the sun will not be a problem. I know someone that dyed their hair purple and then swam in a chlorine pool and nothing happened, but that might just be the color they had. Is it likely for the chlorine alone to change the red streaks in my hair to an orange?

I just went swimming and I am about to dye my hair, but I am not supposed to use shampoo! What do I do?

Non permanent colors that have a peroxide developer will only lighten your hair very *slightly*, and that effect is permanent, if it happens at all. Once pigment is removed from the hair, the only way to replace it is with haircolor or letting it grow out. Non permanent colors are typically meant to change the tonal value (warmth, coolness) of the hair color, or to blend grays. The peroxide developer is what opens the hairs' cuticle to receive and hold the color, but consequently often slightly lightens the overall hair color once the deposited tones have faded.
If you do decide to use the haircolor, you will have to wash it first. The point to not having washed your before application is to let the protective oils build up on your scalp, to prevent irritation from the peroxide developer. You run a greater chance of irritation with the chlorine build-up currently in your hair, not to mention that the chemicals could interact unfavorably, causing off-color or damage. Shampoo with a good cleansing or clarifying shampoo, and wait the recommended time before coloring for best results. (And if you haven't already performed the allergy test, this would be a good time.) Good luck!

I'm a swimmer and i want to dye my hair?

I think mc has a good answer. I will add that red fades very quickly from hair no matter what you are doing, so I would imagine swimming will make it fade faster.

Bright red hair can i go swimming?

My mother died her hair a bright red color and went swimming. When she came out it looked really awesome because it faded a bit and looked like it had highlights in it. Everyones hair reacts differently but putting your hair up would help a bit.

Now....to not make the dye run into the water. I have had that situation before. I have dyed my hair almost every color of the rainbow. There was one time when i was on vacation and my blue hairdye started dripping out and stained my bathing suit. Here is what you do...

Since you dyed it a week ago, i think you should be good if you take a shower and wash your hair with shampoo until the water runs clear. If you dont want to wash it was shampoo, mix a LITTLE shampoo with conditioner and do the same.

Hope this works for you!

What happens when you get pink hair dye and go swimming 2 days later?

As Elizabeth Warner said, it’s best to wear a swim cap or your hair color will fade out. Usually to get your hair pink, you have to bleach out all the natural color first. That makes the hair very porous, meaning color can go in, but it comes out easily too. And chlorine in swimming pools can affect color too. It could fade your color to a dull pinkish/brown. Wearing the swim cap will help save it after all the work and money you’ve spent to make it pink!

Will going swimming make purple hair dye come out?

It probably will fade if you go swimming again. I've noticed with most dyes, even if you use special shampoos and conditioners that chlorine and salt water (especially salt water!) have a greater affect than it's natural fading.

You can go swimming, but if you want your color to last longer, either don't, or don't stay in as long. You could also try wearing a swimming cap, though I'm not sure you'd want to xD
