Hair Dye With Developer But No Activator

how do you dye your hair without developer ?

Not sure why you would buy a dye designed to be used with a developer then want to not follow instructions and try to dye your hair that way.If a hair dye is designed to be used with a developer (not all are), there is a reason for it. Lots of research, science, and development went on to create the product to work a certain way. The two products are designed to work together to get the best results.Of course, there now seems to be a segment of the home DIY dying population that thinks they are reducing damage or something to not use products as they were designed to be used, as if the developer is some monster or evil in the hair dye world. You can of course try the dye without the developer it was designed to be used with. Depending on hair condition, previous hair dying/bleaching/perming/treatments, and health, it may take some of the color, be splotchy and spotty or just make a mess. If your hair takes any of the pigment at all it will wash out much faster than if it had been used properly and as it was designed to be used. Your results will not look like the promised end product because the steps and products required for the end result advertised were not used. The developer is used to help open the cuticle of the hair so that the hair takes the dye. The cuticle needs to be opened so the pigments can get into the hair. The makers of the dyes that require developer created the dye to work a specific way, which requires the developer. The need to mix the developer into the dye is not some clever ploy to get more money or secretly damage a customers hair, it is a necessary chemical step in making the dye work as intended to get the results shown on the package. Skipping that step can result in a badly botched dye job, and more money being spent at a licensed professional to correct the screw up the DIY home dyer made.

Activator without developer?

I don't know who told you to do this but I wouldn't. Lightener activators work with lighteners and can have unexpected results when used with color.

The best solution is to use an Oil or Creme Lightener with one packette of activator and 20 Vol. developer for just long enough to lift the hair just short of the final shade then shampoo, condition and when you apply the shade it should take easily and if you retouch every 4 to 6 weeks before the roots are too visible and overlap the color onto the previous root area it will get as light as the rest of the hair in two or three treatments before they become very noticeable so you won't need to re-bleach.

Hope This Helps.
Good-Luck!!

Can I use a 40 developer creme with my hair dye to put on my bleached hair? What will this creme do to blonde hair dye on bleached golden blonde?

40 volume developer is used to lift color of the hair 3-4 different levels. It's rather complicated in speaking. You really wouldn't want to use 40 volume developer with permanent color to achieve a color. You would use 40 volume developer with either bleach (in rare cases) and you would also use 40 volume developer with a color that is called a "hi-lift". A hi-lift is a color that will color and tone the hair up to 6 levels, but can only be used on virgin hair. What developers do is open or swell the cuticle of the hair so that color can enter into the hair strand. 40 volume developer is used in rare cases to really get the hair to lighten it's color. If you have already "bleached" the hair to the level that you wanted, then you would use a toner to get the desired shade. If your hair is not light enough yet, then you would want to re-bleach the hair until you get the desired level and then, again, use a toner. With fine hair, you do not want to use anything more than a 20 volume developer. For medium, you don't want to use anything higher than a 30 volume... same goes for coarse hair but in some cases a 40 volume can be used on coarse hair. What will the creme do to the blonde hair??  It will cause the hair to become very dry, very brittle, and turn it into spaghetti. I wouldn't recommend this.

Lightening Activator without Developer?

developer is the white substance that's basically like the glue. you need it. When you buy a box kit of hair dye the bottle that has the white liquid in it is the developer, you might be able to use a conditioner instead. but I really recommend not wasting your money and wait until you have all the products you need to do it correctly!

Is Matrix color activator the same thing as regular developer?

MATRIX Color Sync is an Demi-Perm color. You could use a 10 Vol. creme developer. Using a standard 20 Vol. developer may not give good results and may leave hair dry and lightened after the color washes out. Also, the consistency of the mixture may not be the same and the conditioning properties of the color may be affected if you don't use the recommended developer.

Hope This Helps.

Can i use just the clairol lightening activator with developer?

Hair dye gives you the freedom to experiment with your hair color and change your overall look for very little money. However, when you have naturally dark hair, you need to apply a lightening activator to prep your hair before using a toner and dying it a much lighter color. HairBoutique.com states that lightening products break down the melanin in dark hair, removing the color completely, so you can achieve a lighter color without it turning brassy.

HAIR COLOR question: Developer or activating lotion?

You do know that 'Demi-Permanent' means it WILL wash-out in about 20-24 shampoos?

As for your question: Wella® Has several haircolor products that use an 'Activating Lotion' (Midway Coturé®) - its the same as 10 Vol. Developer. However, Activating Lotions are usually a specific Vol. (5, 6, 7, 8) and have a certain combo of 'Special' ingredients and sometimes a special pH balance.

In the case of Wella® Color Charm you can use ANY 10 Vol. Developer (Clear Or Creme) No other product is needed.

Midway Coturé is a No-Ammonia, Low pH Conditioning Color and uses a special 'Activating Lotion' (7 Vol.) to enhance it's performance. You could use 10 Vol. developer instead.

Please DON'T pay any attention to those who say you need
to use 'Activating Lotion'. I have checked the labels of every Developer and Activator and they ALL use the same ingredient to 'Develop' the product - H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) the ONLY difference is the Amount (%) of H2O2 in the product - 3% (10Vol.) For Semi And Demi Permanent Colors And 6% (20Vol.), 9%(30Vol.) & 12%(40Vol.) for Permanent Colors, the other ingredients are for conditioning, buffering, thickening Etc.

I hope this helps.

Good-Luck!!

Will hair dye work without activator.?

Well, with no activator the dye molecules can't penetrate the hair. If it's a semi-permanent or temporary, it's okay. Sally's has some 2 oz activator for about $2 usually. Just make sure you get the right volume (9 for demi, 10 for one lift level, 20 for two lift levels, 30 for three, and 40 for four). Also, make sure you have equal parts dye and activator.

Dying hair - whats the Difference between hair developer and hair activator?

Nothing.
Developer, Peroxide, Activator, all the same thing. It's the "oxygen" part of the chemical process needed to develope the color.

What happens if you don’t use enough activator with a demi-permanent hair color?

The color will not process completely. All color goes through two phases, a lifting (lightening) phase, then the color depositing phase. Chances are, the activator will have been “used up” so to speak before both phases are complete. My best estimate, your color will not hold and wash out very quickly.
