Hair Help Should I Go Lighter Or Stay Brown

How can I dye my dark brown hair lighter?

WELL natural pigment in the hair has RED. You can't avoid the red but you can process passed it. Heres some options.

If you have not colored your hair ever then you can pick a shade of lighter brown color and your hair WILL lift to the desired look. If you colored your hair years ago and havent cut it or its grown out it still will make it uneven. SO this is only if you are completely natural. Otherwise it will only get lighter where its natural and the parts thats colored will stay exactly the same!! Color does not lift color!

Bleach wash or full on bleach. A "bleach wash" is shampoo, 10 volume developer, and bleach mixed together. You cover your hair from roots to ends and slowly wait till it gradually lifts. This is a slower process then straight bleach but better for your hair. It wont be as fired as straight bleach will be. Its important you pay attention to the stages of lift your hair is progressing to. In order to get brown without red you must pass the red stage. So you see your hair looks red then leave it on longer. Brunettes is very hard not to have any red because its such a dominent pigment. Once you are passed the red...im talking looking blond then you rinse. And then you place the desired brown color you wish to have all over your hair from roots to ends.

If there is a beauty supply store around you ask which bleach is best for your hair. YOu wont find bleach at the grocery store. And i really dont recommend the market box colors because that has a large amount of amonia which is damaging to your hair. At beauty supply stores they sell color and have example hair on there.

THis is a huge undertaking. Id be more then helpful to assist you further if you'd like to email you. And one on one questions you might have. I am a stylist and my best friend is always emailing me for hair help. So i dont mind at all. I hope this helped somewhat.

My hair and my skin gets lighter in the winter?

I am medium skined, and I get like 2 or 3 shades lighter in the winter. My hair is naturally light brown and dark brown, the light brown comes out and you can see it better. When I was younger I was really light ..then as I got older I got darker. My mother doesn't believe in wearing sun screen, so thats what contributed to me getting medium skined. Does anyone maybe know why this happens? I'm just curious.

I’ve heard 40 volume creme developer can help lighten hair even without bleach. I have thick, dark brown hair with orangeish-brown tips and I want to safely achieve a lighter ash blonde. How can I instantly lighten my hair color without bleach?

You will not be able to achieve a ash blond (level 7/8/9) without bleach. Anything you can get available to the general public will not be strong enough for your desired outcome so unless you can get pro product do not attempt it. 40 vol (12%) mixed with color or hi-lift color always pulls warmth meaning it exposes the natural red & yellow pigment in the hair. My guess is you are about a lv.3-4 see chart:The column on the right is the corresponding level of hairs underlying raw pigment. You must bypass all the red stages first. So a level 7 is the first yellow/gold stage. At a lv.7 raw, you can use a lv7 color to neutralize the yellow. A lighter color:8+ will not be strong enough to neutralize the warmth of a lv.7 raw. lv.7A/7.1=ash will give you a lv.7N (see left side #7) ideally a level 8–9 = yellow-pale yellow base/raw is best to get an ash blond like:The first is a lv.7 then 8 then 9. having 1 process with a good quality bleach + 30 volume is better than 40 volume X2+ hi-lift color & will pass the red-gold stages. I would recommend seeing a good colorist with experience & chemical knowledge. I would also recommend getting a full head of hi-lites over doing the whole head as the dark roots come in fast & if your hair is naturally dark, your completion will get washed out with the whole head in an ash blond, You can also do peek-a-boo foils in the interior of the hair in panels which are away from the part & hair line so you do not see roots for a long time.

If I leave hair dye in for longer will it go lighter?

Ok so I'm using normal purple hair dye to dipdye my hair, its - LIVE XXL violet
I've already dipdyed it this colour but its too dark and I want it lighter
If I leave it in longer this time will it go lighter and more noticeable or will it just stay the same?
My hair colour is a chocolate brown with the purple dipdye
Many thanks for the answers!

Is it a good idea to dye orange hair brown?

Sure, with a solid dose of caution.Last year, my hair was an extremely brassy orange-blonde. I kinda wanted to go back to brown, so I dyed my hair a neutral light brown. It turned out just as I wanted, perfectly neutral. I went to the beach a couple weeks later, and the sun and sea washed the brown dye out, but the blonde that was left was toned and no longer orange. So, while it was a win for me, you’ll definitely want to do a strand test, to prevent catastrophe. Use an ash or neutral dye, the same level or darker than your current hair. (Lighter may just make it worse.) Be careful and it will probably be fine. :)
