Hard Drive Making A Slight Scratching Noise After Checking For Hd Issues

What does it mean if your starter is making a grinding noise?

Honda Accord /Civic :Why Starter Making Grinding Noise1.Flywheel should be suspect firstly. You need go ahead and climb back under your 2006 Honda Civic or 2007 Honda Accord and remove the access panel under the bell housing of the transmission. This will give you access to the flywheel. Using a flashlight you can inspect the teeth on the flywheel for any abnormal wear, then use a ½ inch ratchet and correct size socket for the crankshaft pulley bolt, and turn the engine clockwise. This will allow you to slowly inspect the hidden areas of the flywheel that could be damaged. Be sure to mark the flywheel with white out or a marker so you can verify when you start and end as you rotate. If at any time you feel uncomfortable doing this, please enlist the assistance of a certified mobile mechanic. After check ,if the flywheel is damaged ,it will need to be replaced.2.If you are unable to see any issues with the flywheel itself, then the problem may lay in the electrical components of the vehicle. Some of the most common electrical problems are corroded electrical connections, an undercharged or bad battery, or a malfunctioning component:bad neutral safety switch (automatic transmission),bad clutch safety switch (manual transmission),bad starter relay, bad starter solenoid, corroded electrical connections in the starting circuit,worn-out part in the starter motor or some other system component. For example, the ignition switch has failed to supply proper voltage to the starting circuit causing the starter solenoid to partially engage which can create a grinding noise .In this case, you could check the battery/relay/solenoid /ignition switch. If it’s a small problem, you could buy some aftermarket replacements then fix it.If you aren’t sure and don’t know how to do ,maybe a new starter at hexautoparts for your honda accord civic or a certified mechanic can get you back on the road quickly and safely.Anyway,if you hear a harsh or grinding noise as you try to crank up the engine, you may have a loose starter motor (mounting bolts), or a flywheel or pinion gear with broken or worn-out teeth. If the gears on the flywheel and pinion aren't able to mesh properly, all you hear is the sound of metal teeth clashing loudly.Hope that helps.

Xbox 360 Making Wierd Noises, Any Help?

Well first off they X-Box 360 is an extremely loud system, but sometimes the disk drive will spin the disk in a way where it wobbles ever so slightly which may be causing the scratching on your games. I don't suggest using any compressed air or a disk cleaning system because of the way the 360's are they can do more harm than good. I hate to say it but you may have to call Microsoft, and I'll bet they'll want you to mail in your system for repairs, which if you're not under warranty will cost you. If that doesn't sound up your alley I suggest living with the problem until it becomes unbearable.

Help with computer hard drive..making grinding noise and LED activity light flashing a lot!?

I have an HP computer with 3gb of ram, 500gb of hard drive space, a 3.2 ghz dual core Intel processors and windows vista 32bit. My computer is only about a year old and the hard drive has been making an annoying crunching/grinding sound for some time now. It sounds as if its constantly being accessed and the activity light is always flashing. What problem am i facing here? I tried to install vista service pack 1 to see if that fixes anything but it always fails after completing stage 3. Is my HHD failing, its been going on for quite some time and i don't notice any performance issues...i just don't want to risk loosing my hard drive. Is there a solution to this?

My car is making a grinding noise when I use my brakes. What should I do?

By the nature of your question you’re not mechanically inclined. What you should do is simple: take your car to a good local independent shop …one that has a good rep …and have them take a look at it.And given it is one of the more important safety features on your car …the brakes …and they are making obnoxious noises when applied …I would do this ASAP.And bring the debit card because chances are they are going to do a brake job …replace the pads on the front set or back set or both …if you’re lucky. If you’re not lucky and that grinding noise is because the friction material has completely worn off a set of pads …and you have metal-to-metal contact between the pad backing plate and the rotor (the metal disc the pads pinch when you step on the brakes) …then things just got a lot more expensive.________________________________Advice:If the only “shop” your car darkens is the local “Spee-D-Loob” joint, you’re potentially in for a rude awakening. These places do one thing: change your oil. They do not check you car over mechanically because the oil change guy isn’t a mechanic and, more than likely, corporate policy states they are not allowed to …since they are not repair shops …and there can be liability issues. If you don’t have one, find yourself a good, highly rated, local, independent shop and get your oil changes and other regular maintenance items done at the shop …things like smog checks, tire rotations and balancing, front end alignments ….coolant flushes …and brake work to name a few. You will be developing a relationship as a regular customer. And every time you bring your car in the guys will put eyeballs …trained eyeballs …on your car and let you know of issues they have found. No, they are not trying to rip you off. Your car is a mechanical device and it’s not a matter of “if” it’s gonna need servicing or break …but “when”. And if you don’t have a good shop to bring your car to then you are like a deer lost in the woods.Having a good mechanic? Priceless

What should I do if there's a scraping sound while driving?

A number of things cause this sound. Have you forgotten to put the wheels on? Is the mechanic still under the vehicle? Has one of your passengers got dry skin? Are you driving in a tunnel that's not wide enough? You have to describe a lot more about this 'scraping sound' to get sensible answers. Like, whereabouts on the vehicle, bodywork, engine, axles, steering. Sound varies with wheel speed or engine speed?

Is it normal for a hard drive to make sound when it's being used?

Yes, like a gentle trss-trsss-trs , like a ant knocking on your window, if the sound change to KRDZx KRdZX KRrrrrrrrrIDiSizix, you should back up your data fast, the hard drive is not alive for very long.

How do I fix my laptop fan if it's making a grinding noise?

Many modern laptops have easy access to the fan and heat sink area through a small bottom cover; check if you have that. If not, then more disassembly may be required but there are how-to guides online for just about every major laptop ever made. The heat sink and fan blades will likely be filled with dust and crud which will impede cooling and the grinding noise might be a failing fan bearing or obstructions of the blade. If you can gain access, clean out the area the best you can and replace the fan if necessary, or you can apply a drop of light sewing machine oil to the bearing usually accessible under an adhesive label at the center of the fan. This is a common problem with laptops operating in dusty conditions and quite easy to fix even if you're only marginally handy.

Is it a problem if I hear a scratching sound in my manual transmission car driving in low gears?

It's always difficult to troubleshoot a specific auto problem on the internet, however any scratching or grinding noise is an indication of a potentially serious problem.  Most grinding sounds as you've described are caused by a bad bearing or bushing.  A common cause for a sound like this, which is clearly audible, is a bad throwout bearing or pilot bushing.  Those parts are related to the clutch and will be relatively easy to inspect and replace, compared to internal transmission work.If it is related to the transmission itself, it's most likely worn input or output spline surfaces, worn or damaged shift fork surfaces or input/output bearings.  In either case, the longer you drive it in this condition, the more likely serious (and expensive) damge will occur.  Good luck...

My Seagate external hard disk makes a beeping sound whenever I connect it to my laptop. What's the problem?

First of all you should do SMART TEST for your Seagate Hard Disk.Download for your OS from the link belowSeaTools | SeagateInstall and run the software and then run SMART test for your HDD.It will detect most of the problems for your HardDisk.Second the beeping problem you are referring to happens when your Hard Disk lifecycle is about to end. Here is the graph for the lifecycle of the Hard Disks:-It seems that hard drives have three distinct failure “phasesn the first phase, which lasts 1.5 years, hard drives have an annual failure rate of 5.1%. For the next 1.5 years, the annual failure rate drops to 1.4%. After three years, the failure rate explodes to 11.8% per year. In short, this means that around 92% of drives survive the first 18 months, and almost all of those (90%) then go on to reach three years.Graph source :- EXTREME TECH.

What does it mean when a computer makes a grinding noise?

A computer has 2 kinds of mechanical  moving parts: the cooling ventilators, and the drives: hard disk, digital disk (CD, DVD...) drive, or (if your computer is old enough) floppy disk drive.Check where the noise is coming from: if from the floppy or digital disk drives, it might be ok, as they usually do a grinding-like noise when the start working (checking if there is a disk in, or trying to read it); if it's from the HD, backup your data asap and prepare to buy a new disk (can't fix mechanical problems in them in 99 out of 100 cases); if you suspect the noise is from a ventilator, open the computer (or ask someone you trust to open it, especially if it's a laptop) and clean the dust (you can use a Gas duster  - they are cheap and efficient); if possible, run the computer while open to see if the ventilator is still doing the same noise, and why. If you notice it is hitting something, replace it - it might damage nearby parts, or completely stop, which puts whatever is being cooled (usually the CPU or the GPU) in risk of overheating, and getting seriously damaged, and a decent replacement starts at the $100 USD and can go up to the thousands, depending on your needs.
