Has Anyone Heard Of The Punk Band Fold

What is the best band hardly anyone has heard of?

In some circles, these bands are huge. But to those of you who stick to more mainstream fare, they’re probably mysterious. I could rattle off a million more of them, hell… even throw in the ones I was in. These are performers that are somewhat obscure, yet also dynamic, unique, and influential to some degree:THE MELVINS- very heavy, but somehow not metal; forefathers of grunge (they were the main inspiration for Kurt Cobain of Nirvana to play music); STILL kicking ass. Three core members with an ever-shifting, semi-rotating additional castmember bench, lyrics that often stray into unknown tongues and syntax.WEEN- multiple-genre-mastering, multiple-band-parodying, dark-humored psychedelic kitchen-sink rock & roll awesomeness. More PCP than LSD. They made an unprecedented crossover from the wastoid division of the punk scene (Butthole Surfer-esque) to the hippie jam-band amphitheater crowd. It all works.PERE UBU- nobody sounds remotely like these oddbodkins from Cleveland, Ohio. They’ve been at it since the seventies (well, at least singer David Thomas has), mutating and evolving over the decades into something so avante-garde, there’s not really a name for it. You can still see them (more importantly hear them) live if you’re lucky; let me know if you can think of a label.THINKING FELLERS UNION LOCAL 282- I have several of their albums, but know virtually nothing about them, and have never seen them live. They kinda sorta sound like a weird mix of Ween & Pere Ubu, with a definite (if inscrutable) pop sensibility, and considerably less cynicism. Maybe another Quoran could fill inthe gaps?KOOL KEITH- yet another veteran still going strong for decades, and through multiple personas, he’s rapped from both coasts with a lot of big names and never copped anyone’s style. Lyrically ingenious, with deranged absurdities that range from disturbingly unhinged to gut-bustingly hilarious. He can paint a scene and/or mood incredibly well, like only the best poets can, and he too has been known to make up words if necessary.P.S.- I was trying to keep with bands that are still functioning, but seeing as how there’s a thin but strong thread of Dadaism that runs through all of my choices, I am compelled to add the late, great CAPTAIN BEEFHEART to this list, as perhaps a spiritual godfather to any and all of these surrealistic racket-making wackos.

What are some of the best bands no one you know has heard of?

1-Goblin These guys are in my opinion the best progressive rock group from Italy. Mainly a cult phenomenon. They aren’t extremely well known here in the US(although they still do limited tours here now and then)2-Space Circus: An absolutely amazing jazz-fusion band from Japan. Unfortunately they only had two albums in the late 70’s but their musicianship was phenomenal. Very progressive instrumental stuff.3-The Sweet: Very popular in the UK. Sadly, I can’t find anybody in the US that’s familiar with them. In spite of having about three major hit songs, they never achieved the worldwide acclaim that other bands like KISS, Led Zeppelin and AC/DC had. Yet still they rocked just as hard as the rest of their peers. A truly great musical gem to discover!4-Brand X: Fantastic jazz-fusion from the UK. Often mis-labelled as progressive rock(although they were quite progressive), they had a unique blend of intense funky fusion. And interestingly, Phil Collins was their drummer!5-Shadowfax: Often labelled as “New Age”, a more accurate description of their music would be “World Fusion”. Led by the late Chuck Greenberg(a master of the electronic wind instrument, the “Lyricon”, these guys combined jazz and rock with various ethnic flavors like African, Latin American and Indian, making them one of the most unique and interesting artists. Another truly fantastic gem that I think everybody should hear.6-Clannad: An immensely talented modern Celtic group. They do both traditional Celtic tunes as well as original songs. They do both songs and instrumentals. They could be described as slightly progressive and they sometimes have a bit of jazz flavor. Not completely obscure but definitely under the radar.7-The Resurrection Band: One of the pioneers of Christian rock, among the first Christian bands to do heavy metal/hard rock. They got their start roughly back in about 1972 but didn’t get an official record contract till 1978. They came out with numerous albums till the late 90’s. They were not only heavy duty rockers but they also wrote some fantastic songs that were actually thought provoking and relevant to real life issues. Their sound was very unique, often combining a little “New Wave” flavor in the mix.

Punk songs about being cheated on...?

This question has been asked TO DEATH in other threads, but none of the answers were really what I was looking for. I'll get more specific: I'm looking for punk/punk rock songs about being cheated on or about a crappy girlfriend/boyfriend. I don't want any JoJo or Eamon or Kelly Clarkson and please, no classics i.e. the Eagles etc. Oh, and no country either. A great example of what I am looking for is "The Ballad of Sal Villanueva" or "Liar (it takes one to know one)" by Taking Back Sunday. Sorry, one more thing, please no sappy crap like Dashboard Confessional or Ben Folds Five...I wan't something quick, loud, and with a bite to it--not some long, mopey, "I'm gonna die without you" kind of thing. I know it's specific, but help me out if you got anything for me...

What is your favorite band that no one has heard of?

I've been watching live music for over 30 years. I've seen Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and Chaka Khan amongst some huge and tin0y concerts. The best band I ever saw live that I thought “these guys should be filling stadiums” was a band called The Dirty Feel. My friend invited me to see HIS friend's band play at London's 100 club. This is an intimate venue in a basement in central London. Famously the first specifically punk music event took place there. Jimi Hendrix played there. It's famous because it has a great reputation of showcasing bands that eventually make it BIG. The first two acts came on and they were both rubbish. I thought oh my gosh this is going to be a long night as this is going to be terrible. Eventually, The Dirty Feel come on stage and I was mesmerized. I simply couldn't believe 3 individuals could play so well and with such intensity live. Consider the fact they covered Stevie Wonder's song Superstition. A guitar, bass, drum kit and 3 voices sounded like a 7 piece band. I simply was blown away how they could play a musically complex arrangement in a 3 piece setting. I still don't and I perform myself. I bought a CD of my friend's friend (who happens to be Steve Howe's son) even though I was offered it free because I was so impressed. In 2007 when Led Zeppelin was playing in London with Jason Bonham on drums, The Dirty Feel were playing a small venue in London and Nick Hirsch teased the audience about not having to managed to secure tickets to see Let Zeppelin proceeded to launch into an amazing Let Zep cover. Again I thought I'd pay to see these guys at the O2 in London. The reason why they never became famous was they never sounded great on virtual or physical releases. I have their entire back catalogue and frankly, it's like looking at someone reflected in the mirror who faces is on Skype or Viber (other internet connection communication's programs are available). It just sounds lacking depth. Think how thin (pun not intended) Thin Lizzy records sound in comparison the Live and Dangerous LP. Their music sounds great but not as good as how they sounded live.Lovin' You - The Dirty Feel (Lovin' You - The Dirty Feel)

Pop Punk Bands WITHOUT Whiny Voices?

I'm looking for bands that have a pop-punk sound, but without the whiny voices. For example, if i could combine the instrumentals of Dashboard Confessional with the vocalist of OneRepublic, they would be my favorite band. In fact, i think the lead singer of Dashboard isn't that whiny, at least on the latest album... much more alternative. Basically, i want a pop-punk vibe with a mainstream vocalist.

Anyways, some examples of whiny voices i hate are: Simple Plan, Story Of The Year, Early November, Every Avenue, *Pretty Much Any Band With A Type of Road Suffix*, etc.

The instrumentals from these bands are great, but if the vocals we're replaced by the singers of say... OneRepublic, The Script, Dashboard Confessional (Later Albums), Red, etc. that would be awesome!

Any suggestions?

What are the best christian punk, hardcore, and metal-core bands?

Christian music can not be punk, hardcore or metal. The two just don't go together. Nevertheless here are some Christian bands that I know, none of which are all that great.

Skillet
Considering Lily
Grammatrain
Switchfoot
Reality Check
Smalltown Poets
Bleach
The O.C. Supertones
The Waiting
Family Force 5

I recommend you find some better music, though.

Bands that look EMO/GOTH/PUNK?

oh so you want hard rock and metal.(five finger death punch is not goth, emo, or punk, einstein. they're metal, plain and simple metal.) you would be better off just listening to your local rock stations on the radio.

or go to pandora [dot] com and type in a band or song you like and boom, you have a list/radio station of your own for free. i'll even be nice and give you a link to it.

Does anyone have a fear of never hearing a particular song again?

Sometimes I hear a song on the radio or something that just strikes a magical chord with me, and I can't find the name of the artist or the title. These are usually old songs or obscure songs. Does anyone have similar feelings?

Sometimes I get a chance to hear the song again and then it's like I found a golden nugget. Sometimes a popular band or singer will do a remake and then I get a chance to find the original artist and song, like the version of 'Last kiss' by Pearl Jam. I had heard the song before, maybe once or twice around the time a friend of mine died in a car crash (long before the Pearl Jam version) and then I didn't hear it again until Pearl Jam's remake.

My dad and I were working together one day and the P.J. version came on. My dad asked me "Who's this?" and I told him, "Pearl Jam, you know, that band you call 'headhunter music', but it might be a solo by the lead singer Eddie Vedder, so I heard. He went to get a couple of ice teas and put on the original.

Does anyone know a song that has to do with...?

maybe falling in love, but being afraid about it..
Like afraid to fall, or something.
Maybe a bit popish or punkish, indie.. whatever, just not screamo or metal or way too soft if that's ok?

It would be nice.
Thanks!

What is the best mood-lifting song you have heard?

I love music. From the era as old as classical Debussy or playful Gershwin to 1920′s jazz and blues to the latest 2016′s pop, r&b, alternative techno, punk, indie band, you name it. I’m that kind of person who would enjoy anything as long as it fits my heart and my mind: genre is just a limitation.Yet the one that I would turn on and take a deep breath into my lowest points of my life would be this composition by Kan R. Gao and Laura Shigihara:To the Moon - Main ThemeIt soothes me and almost feels like a velvet cloth, wrapped to my head and cool it down with the sight of stars gazing in the middle of deep dark sky that reminds me that I'm just a small part of the universe and that everything is going to be okay.If you knew the game that inspired the soundtrack, you'll get it even better. It was a very beautiful storyline. All loves.x
