Has Someone Ever Said Anything Rude To Your Face About Self Harm Or Scars

How to deal with self harm scars in the summer?

Hey,

Lots of people have to deal with this. I have a very good friend who has to deal with the same issue. One answer is finding long-sleeved tops that are made out of a lighter material that aren't as uncomfortable in the summer. Another is the hard one, which is just dealing with it. The scars do continue to fade over time. The thing is, everyone has scars - yours just happen to show on the outside. People are always going to whisper and stare, and it sucks that you have to deal with that, but think of it this way: you are a survivor. You have scars, but you're still alive.

And, as my friend has found, you will find people who don't care about the scars, and those will be your best friends.

Lastly re: self-esteem. I don't know what you believe, but I believe in a God that created us and loves us just the way we are (more on that if you want: http://www.knowgodpersonally.org), and so I'd like to say you're beautiful. I don't even have to know what you look like to tell you that, because you are a unique YOU and that makes you beautiful. I know it sounds corny, but I really do believe that.

Teacher saw my self harm scars and did not say anything?

I certainly do not self harm anymore, however my body is full of hundreds of scars. They are really noticible and cant be missed. I have so many from cutting or burning my skin and they are mainly in my thighs and wrists. So last month after so long I wore a shorts and tanktop in public. I was in a field trip with my teacher and a couple of classmates. My teacher is really comfortable with us and will speak his mind. I noticied he first stared at my scars and had this (idk disgusted?) look in his face. He stared at my thighs for a few times when he was arranging stuff in ground cubicles next to me and remained silent. My classmates were going to eat somewhere else so it was only him and I walking back. He is usually talkative but remained silent in the beginning and I tought he was going to confront me. We started conversation afterwards and we went back to normal. Its been a month so obviously he didnt tell the school counseler or anything. In a way I wanted somebody to confront me and idk support me. I figured since I was close to my physc teacher he would help me. He once told me privately that he had depression a couple years back when he was in college (fairly recently) but hasnt told other students, so I figured we were passed that point. What do you guys think, do you think he ignored it because he was disappointed in me? His expressions obviously showed negative thoughts.
By the way, Im in my last year of highschool.

Do you have self harm scars & ever had to get a shot/iv/blood drawn?

Cyn: You must really hate yourself to say such horrible things :) Good for you. Thanks for making me feel better about myself because I'm not horrible like you.

That's really unfortunate. Personally I'd just act like they're not there, and not draw attention to them. I imagine it'd be the nurse putting the IV in but I'm not sure. Hopefully it is. I know I personally don't like people butting in on my personal life (like cutting) or how people automatically think I'm going to kill myself because of really old scars.

Like another person mentioned, they'll definitely see that they're old and scars, and will hopefully just ignore it if they do notice them. If someone does notice and wants to say something, unfortunately they can, since you're underage. Are you worried about your parents freaking out and trying to get you help you don't necessarily need? I don't know how close you are to your parents, but if this does end up happening, I guess just try to talk calmly and maturely about it and how it's not an issue anymore and nothing to worry about.

Good luck!
