Has The Extreme Right Taken Over The Gop Or Have They Always Been This Looney

What Was the Appeal of the New Right (1980's)?

I am writing a history paper and I am beside myself because I have NO idea how to answer this! Please help! This paper is work 15% of my grade. Thanks! :)

"Explain the appeal of the rhetoric and prescriptions of the New Right into the 1980s."

Are we getting more looney, childish and (dare I say) stupid questions in Politics lately?

Personally, I think it's because more people are adding religion to the mix...or, anti-religion. This means they are getting doubly passionate about politics, which makes them less, not more, tolerant of others. As I aged, I became more of a moderate, until those opposing my opinions became so angry and hateful. I'm a life-long Democrat, but I actually have less respect for politicians than ever before, and this is the result of the terrible mess this President has made for us. I really resent him for allowing our young people to be dying because of his decision to mistakenly invade a country that never harmed us. Bush has ruined our credibility and respect .

Did Trump prove the GOP's hard-right shift right?

I don’t agree with your premise that Mr. Trump is “as far right as American politics ever went”.While his campaign statements about Muslims and Mexicans seemed to indicate a move in that direction, most of his policy platform was very centrist, and probably drove a lot of hard-line GOP supporters quite mad. Here are some examples:He wants to keep large chunks of Obamacare (with a different branding)He wants the government to “incentivize companies to provide childcare at the workplace”Provide 6 weeks of paid leave to new mothers before returning to workHe wants the federal government to put money into school choice - not exactly small government. He is talking about foreign tariffs and domestic financial support for business - again, not exactly small government. And there are more. But, given the recent political discourse, we really have no clue what he’s really going to take and stances once he is in office - he has walked back so much of what he said on the campaign trail. I’m sure that this is worrying the GOP as much as it is his opponents. So no, I don’t think this proves much, other than the fact that a significant portion of the population of the country, especially in the more sparsely-populated areas of the country, were so disgusted at the status quo that they voted in someone that they had no real clue what he was going to do other than “something different”.Some further reading:Starnes: Donald Trump is not a conservativeRush Limbaugh's big concession: 'Are you admitting Trump is not a conservative? Why do libs think that Fascism is a right wing ideology?

IT IS BOTH LEFT WING AND RIGHT WING!

There are right wing fascism (Hitler) and left wing fascism (Stalin).

Fascism is simply totalitarianism - a severe police state. And that can operate under any economic system.

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." -- Adolf Hitler, May 1, 1927

It might be an over-simplification, but to the absolute left is ultra-Socialism which can manifest itself as Fascism or Communism. To the absolute right is Anarchism. Complete government control over citizens and property vs. zero control over citizens and property.

When the USA was founded. It was far to the Anarchy side. Evidence to this was the weak Articles of Confederation. Just having been under tyranny, it might have been understandable why the founders took this position. It was soon found that this was an unworkable form of government. The Constitution was a move toward a more powerful central government of the left. The Bill of Rights portion of the Constitution was a mechanism to keep the USA from going to far in this direction by limiting how much power this more powerful government could have.

The road to ultra-socialism goes through the Progressive philosophy. Progressives believe that society and people can be "improved" or shaped into a better society. Notice both Communism and Fascism have this theme. The vehicle of this "improvement" is control of the economy. Complete control is where Communism and Fascism begin. Both have forced redistribution of wealth. Where they differ is how private property is treated. In Communism, it is eliminated. In Fascism it is controlled by the state. They are not opposites. They are the fruit of the same tree, extreme Progressive philosophies aimed at a utopian "betterment" of society with ultra-Nationalism mixed in. Both Hitler and Lenin have been described back in the day as progressives.

Will the GOP win a presidential election ever again?

The Republican Party historically doesn't go long without winning. I think their longest losing streak was FDR who got I think 3 or 4 terms due to a recession and world war. Besides that, they do pretty well. They recovered from Nixon pretty quickly and got 2 terms of Reagan and one of Bush Sr. Then they got Clinton who lets face it was basically a Republican Lite working with a republican congress. Then they got Bush Jr who was ok for a while then screwed up. Then they got Obama who spent most of his time contending with a republican congress. And now we have a republican congress and a republican president as well as a Supreme Court which will likely lean right by the end of Trump’s time in office. Here's my predictionThe next democrat president will be some sort of minority or a woman (or both) who used identity politics to win. While the people didn't buy into it, they elected them for change. This new president thinks I won = identity politics is good. They take it to the max and cause great racial tension, similar to Obama. A less charismatic president is set to take over after them (like Hillary after Obama) but fails to energise the vote in the same way. The people look to a strong, charismatic republican who promises to help the people recover from whatever issues the democrat has caused (probably race riots, high unemployment, weak borders, high taxes you name it), and they win, probably two terms too.

What are Republicans going to do when Democrats control all three branches of government again?

When that happens, the GOP will do what they often do:Scare their voter base, saying:We’re out to take their guns,Lock them into safe spaces,Make them eat rainbows and snowflakes,Make them marry gay illegal immigrants,Ban the English language,Ban burgers and meat,Demand they only eat soy/tofu,Install Sharia law,Destroy all BBQs,Send their grandparents to death panels,Send every single newborn to Planned Parenthood,Burn Christians at the stake,Erect Satanic or Atheistic “propaganda” everywhere,Threaten to only teach facts as facts and opinions as opinions nationwide,Put marijuana in all the water systems nationwide,Legalize crack,Let refugees from “shithole countries” kick Americans out of their homes and roost there,Let the terrorists win,Play red light, green light at the border as a form of “border security,”Start teaching all children where babies actually come from,Provide all people with proper sexual health information and birth control,A few of these are things we’d actually do, but some GOP voters really fear we’d try to do the whole list.I literally had a friend vote against Obama because some random uncle of his told him that Obama would personally make sure old people didn’t get liver transplants and my friend had a grandfather in need of that surgery. That’s the kind of gullible stuff that some of ’em can get suckered into. They mix enough reality with a big dose of WTF and folks will buy into it and not bother to do any objective investigating themselves. And once Democrats take over, Republicans have ~4–8 years to rev up that fear-mongering machine until the Republicans are voted in, then they vote to pass tax cuts for the rich and cut down on entitlements and then the cycle starts again.

My grandaughter's boyfriend is a pro-gun conservative nut?

My ex-wife and her husband were throwing a family dinner so I decided to come. A lot of people were there including my grandaughter's stupid conservative white boyfriend. Its annoying because everyone in the family thinks hes so nice and hes just a saint. But I know hes secretly evil because hes a gun-carrying republican.

My younger grandchildren were walking around with water guns screaming bang bang and I thought it was innapropriate for them to have waterguns after the recent stuff going on so I took them away and they started crying and everyone in the family started yelling at me. We I told them how dumb they are and why guns are bad and my grandaughter's stupid boyfriend talks about how not all pro-gun people are crazy and how he carry's a gun on him. I freaked out and yelled and had to leave. I don't want to be there if a guy is carrying a gun!

My grandaughter has been dating him like 4 years and I need to figure out how to get this looney away from her. I don't want her dating some pro-gun sociopath.
