Has There Ever Been One International Cricketer From Your Country You Just Can

Shouldn't Wales have their separate team in International cricket?

If Wales become a seperate cricketing nation to England then cricket in Wales would lose a lot of funding. Less money to invest on cricket in Wales would of course mean less facilities for young players from Wales to use to develop their game. Less facilities would mean that it would be harder for the players to improve their game.

Looking at the handful of Welsh players to ever represent England and the fact that besides (a crocked) Simon Jones, there isn't actually any Welsh players even close to an England place so my question is?

Would it actually be worth it?

Presuming that because Wales are no longer part of the ECB so that England don't use Sophia Gardens anymore, which would mean it would only be used for Glamorgan and Wales games which probably wouldn't generate enough revenue for the stadium, meaning it would be closed down or turned into a football stadium with immediate affect.

Of course if Wales becoming their own cricket nation does generate interest in a country where Rugby and football dominate the interest of young people (besides Glamorgan) and Wales start producing young players capable of making a name for themselves in International cricket.

What is to stop England taking those players?. Wales don't have a Domestic League and even if they did start one, the standard wouldn't be good enough to produce quality players.

England will always be able to offer young players from the UK Test Cricket and International exposure, which neither Ireland, Wales or Scotland can.

Is watching cricket waste of time?

If you notice, there's a social perception to your question. Have you ever heard someone ask that question on any other sport specifically? I know there's the general question of whether sports is a waste of time and the resounding answer is 'NO'. I've hardly ever heard a specific sport labelled out to being a waste of time. But when it comes to cricket it's split down to the middle.

Now don't get me wrong...kids who play all sports till the dark hours of the day obviously gets a good scolding from their parents telling them they are pushing it and wasting their time. I am targetting the viewing audience in this mostly, and to a lesser extent the participants.

People in the States consider, 3 hours of basketball quite dragged. Cricket takes up MORE than 6 hours. Soccer, has 45 minute halves and including intermission takes up less than 2 hours (unless there's overtime and penalties).

The amount of hours to view a cricket game is staggering...and this is only a one-day international game I am talking about (imagine a 5day Test game!). I used to play and watch cricket. I still try to play when I have a chance and keep in touch with the news. But watching cricket for 50 Overs is just too much and to people in certain countries who stop their work and be fanatical enough to waste so many hours is just wrong, for a sport that's played throughout the year. True it's a national sports to many...but you're better off supporting ur nation in other ways than sitting idly, ball for ball.

Wasting more than 6 hours of a day to WATCH a game is not worth it...your better off enjoying 3 soccer games in that time. You can play and watch alot of other activities that are conducive to your time. I either watch the game highlights or otherwise keep hoping they reduce the length of the game.

Hope this helps in your debate. Best of Luck.

greatest fielder in the history of the game; much ahead Even Jonty Rhodes (you need to follow the whole cricket to understand that, and not just having the newspaper or internet blogs knowledge for that)
greatest wicket keeper batsman cricket has ever produced as he is the greatest athletic keeper cricket has ever watched;

Jak Kallis- the best in the 10,000 clubs, ; the greatest all rounder in the history of the game.

Why is cricket played only by few countries in the world?

Cricket is a game played by 22 fools and watched by 22000 fools. George Bernard Shaw said this once. Now the number of fools who watch this stupid game is increased to billions, thanks to India. Cricket is played in few countries because many other countries follow better sports like football, hockey etc.Cricket is a strange competition in which even after playing for five days they have no results. That means it’s a miraculous sport in which even after spending almost 40 hours on the field there is always a possibility of draw or no result.George was liberal in his comment. According to me only 3 fools are making billions people fool. One is the pitcher, second is hitter and third one is fielder. Its funny that upto the time the ball is pitched no fielder can move to left or right, i.e. he can only move towards or away from the batsman. No other sport is this much of lazy people. But the biggest drawback cricket has is that it is not fair for both the teams. The toss (a chance) plays such a big role that it affect the outcome of the game directly. The shortest format lasts for almost three hours that too if climate is merciful. Time is money, and noone wants to waste it for a game which could result in a “no result”. Also cricket is full of uncertainty and is most easy to fix matches because players can blame the atmosphere, toss and sometimes the pitch.P.S.- these are just my views. No disrespect to any player or sport but I dont think cricket deserve this much respect as much it is being given in our country.
