Have I Fractured My Wrist

Fractured wrist? brace or cast?

A fracture pretty much always requires a cast for proper healing.

Okay, thumbs down - I said pretty much always, not all the time. It depends on the injury.

I think I broke or fractured my wrist, but my mom won't take me to urgent care. What do I do?

R.I.C.E.Rest—Give your hand and wrist a rest. Avoid doing anything that causes pain. If you can get your mother to purchase a wrist splint or brace at the drug store, apply it comfortably.Ice— You can take a pack of frozen vegetables, or a baggie with some ice cubes and water, and cool your wrist. To protect your skin, place a layer of dry towel over your skin, first. Try to cool it for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Doing this several times per day is helpful. This will help with swelling and inflammation.Compression—if you have a snug sock, you can wear it over your hand and wrist to help keep the swelling down.Elevation—-you can elevate your wrist by reclining and supporting it on a soft pillow so that your wrist and hand are either at the same level or above your heart. This will also help with swelling. You probably can’t do this all day long, but the more you do it the better. If the pain doesn’t begin to improve over the next few days, you will need to talk to your mother about taking you to see a doctor. Many wrist injuries can be very painful. It is possible you have a fracture, but you may have suffered a sprain. Hopefully you will see some improvement over the next few days.

How can I strengthen my wrist after a fracture?

Not sure exactly how and to what extent your scaphoid is fractured but be cautious when you refer to a "minor" fracture of that bone. Injuries to the scaphoid are notorious for leading to significant consequences, albeit often delayed. Also, it is not unusual to have co-existent injuries to the nearby tendons. Bottom line- get is checked out. Best of luck.

Did i sprain or fracture my wrist?

i was riding the mechanical bull like 10 times at after prom saturday/sunday morning. its now monday night and my wrist still hurts. at school it hurts really bad to do my locker combination, adn i cant lay my hand flat on the table without pain. the pain is on the pinky side. and its the bone that hurts not the muscle. it isn really swollen, only alittle bit(hardly noticable) i can move it but when i do it hurts and when i twist my wrist theres like a shocking throbbing pain. soo what did i do? anyone help me out?

Could i have a hairline fracture in my hand? wrist?

Sorry about your getting hurt. My guess is also a hairline fracture, and there doesn't have to be swelling for that. My daughter did the same thing, and it only hurt when the Dr. touched the exact spot where it was broken.

I was a very BAD parent, because she did it right before we left for a trip to Disney World. They weren't sure if it was broken, and the Dr. gave her a temporary velcro on cast until we got back. She SWORE it didn't hurt, so by the end of the vacation, we were letting her on the wet rides and roller coasters without it. We got back from vacation, had another xray, and it was a hairline fracture... six weeks in a cast.

She did it falling exactly like you did, only she fell off her bike, put her hands forward to catch herself, and slapped the pavement. No swelling, no bruising. Just generally sore all over with one spot that was a little more sore than the rest but not enough to say it was definitely broken.

The pins and needles are scary thing... sounds like a pinched nerve or something. I'd get it looked at.

GOOD LUCK!

Can I use numbing cream on my fractured wrist?

No you cannot!! If you have a fractured wrist you have to visit the doctor and get treated. The treatment of a wrist is either cast or surgery and only a doctor can know that. So if you really have a fractured wrist you won't be helping yourself by using a cream.Unless your fracture is already healed and you're using it just for pain relief or as a massage cream. This might be Ok. Other than that please go visit a doctor.

I have a fractured and "no union" in my wrist from an old injury. What will my doctor do and how long should recovery take?

You stated: I have a fractured and "no union" in my wrist from an old injury. Then you asked: What will my doctor do and how long should recovery take? You actually asked two questions, neither of which could possibly be answered by anyone on any Forum, including “your doctor,” until he sees you, takes your clinical history (at least since you last saw him,) reviews the pertinent imaging studies and possibly orders another, possibly reviews laboratory results and orders more tests. Then, after completing the above, your doctor, assuming s/he is an Orthopedic Surgeon, will first think and then decide what treatment options to present you with. Of course, if your doctor is not an Orthopedic Surgeon, then you certainly have another set of steps to go through. So by now I trust you understand that the only answer to your first question is: one cannot know.As for your second question, IF one does not know at this point in time what your doctor will do, then how can one know how long your recovery will be?Good Luck.

How do you fracture your wrist really quickly?

Im sorry to hear about your troubles :/ First, take some pain killers because I dont want you to be in pain. Hold your wrist, and bend it down completelty so that your fingers touch your arm. Hold this for at least 1 minutes. Then right when you let go fall and land completly on your wrist and it will no doubt break especially if it is bent when you land on it. Feel free to email me at tori.mobley@yahoo.com if you need to I'll try to make you feel better. And make sure you break the wrist that isnt the hand you write with. Good luck (:

I fractured my wrist due to work related Injury? should i get compensations? any legal advises?

i was injured about a week ago while i was at my job. I work as an airplane cleaner for a contractor at an airport. On the night i had the accident i was asked by my manager to push a trash cart, but i refused because it was too heavy for me, but the manager ordered me to do the job anyway because i was on my shift and to do it anyway. So as i was pushing the cart i fell down and broke my wrist. the roads were icy and there was snow on the ground.

So i was taken to the emergency room and the emergency room doctor said he couldn't see any fractures, but advised me to see an orthopedic doctor if the pain doesn't go way in a couple of days. so today i just seen the orthopedic doctor and he said i had a fractured wrist bone. So he put cast on my arm and said i can't work for the next six weeks. My Job has been covering all the medical costs since the accident happened.

should they pay me for the six months i am gonna miss? is there any other compensation i should get or ask for? and how much benefit would i be able to get?

How does it feel to have plaster on one's fractured wrist for the first week?

I broke both ulna and distal radius and had surgery to screw a plate to the radius. Because we were at the beginning of a month-long overseas holiday, I wore a volar slab (thick plaster on underside of arm, then wrapped in bandages - to allow me to fly). Strangely, that first night the plaster felt incredibly cold and I couldn't sleep for that reason (even though the place we were staying in was cosy and warm, and the pain was under control). But the swelling was incredible! And I couldn't use my fingers/thumb for anything for a few weeks - just kept trying to move them as much as possible to keep the blood flowing through :DThe cast felt heavy and I have sympathy for anyone who has had to wear a full arm cast for any length of time. It was a pain to get a plastic bag on to shower with (because unlike fibreglass, plaster can't get wet at all!), and I needed help to do this. I also couldn't do my jeans up lol. Sleeping with it on a pillow kept it safe from hubby rolling onto it.After a few days I pretty much got used to it. And I was grateful for it in a way because it felt "safe" wearing it, protecting my arm from being knocked or hurt further. Unfortunately once the swelling subsided a little the cast got loose and slipped around a bit, but I was stuck with it until we got home.Five months later and I am waiting to have the hardware removed because it is causing lots of irritation (seems it's overlapping the ulna too), and I also did a good job on the cartilage which needs repair. Hmmm... but this time I'll have a non-removable splint for a couple of weeks.Hope that answers at least part of your question? Good luck.
