Have U Ever Experienced A Complete Loss Of Sense Of Smell When U Got Cold Did U Panic

Sudden loss of taste and smell?

If he has had a cold, flu or sinus infection this does happen...if it does not clear up in a couple of weeks or if there is no cold or infection associated with it this needs to be evalutated by a physician as there could be problems--he would probably be referred to a neuro IF this is not some sort of cold. I had the flu once and lost my sense of taste/smell for two weeks...and it was just wild....could not taste a thing!!! Just felt the texture in my mouth. It cleared up in about 10 days.

Loss of Smell & Taste ?

I lost my smell and taste when I was pregnant and it came back somewhat after, I know that is not your daughters case. And I work in a doctors office and have had people say they loose their taste and smell with sinus infections but, it normally comes back, have you taken her to and ENT doctor? Is there still somewhat of an infection there that may be blocking these senses? I do hope she gets well.

Ears clogged when I breath through my nose?

Your eustachian tube in your sounds as if its blocked. It's very common after or during a cold and an ear infection.
If you have had a cold or ear infection recently see your doctor. They should give you some spray to unblock the tube.

Can you hear OK from your effected ear?
ahh ok. have u had cold or ear infection?

Can excess coughing cause anomia?

I spent a week in bed due to so much coughing that it left me weak. I knew it was not a cold because although I did wake with a "catchy" throat, it did not lead on to a cold; however I suffered from severe shivering and my cough got worse ie the tickle was constantly there. I did not have a temperature.

Due to coughing without let up, I finally went to see the dr and about this time, my taste and smell disappeared. He said it was a bad case of asthma and duly gave me the inhaler which I have been taking and my coughing has eased up. For the first time last night, I did not wake up with the need to use my ventolin which was great.

However, I simply have no sense of smell ie 100% not there! Taste is also not there. I can just about eat rice with tuna and get a sense of something, but think it is the texture rather than the taste.

I will go back to the dr if this continues because despite there being more positives than negatives ie peeling onions does not effect me as I cannot smell them. Changing bins which usually get me holding my breath, lol no worries. I am honestly completely devoid of any odors.

Tasting: well I might as well be eating cardboard or at least, as if the food was plastic!

The only thing that I can think of that has caused this is my continuous coughing ie a dry cough and would like to know is this possible?

I am trying not to panic, but well it is upsetting!

One time I smoked weed and had a massive panic attack to where my veins hurt in my body. I’m still feeling the effects today with major anxiety but I feel like it’s more even though I’ve had heart tests done. How can I be 100% sure I’m okay?

Most likely it was more than weed- or was contaminated. While some strains (types) of Marijuana CAN cause panic attacks in some people- it would only last about an hour or so- and would NOT cause they symptoms you are talking about.UNLESS:#1- You have an undiagnosed lung/oxygen problem that was made worse by smoking . “Weed” expands your lungs, improving lung capacity over time— but for someone with an asthma-like condition, would cause issues.#2- Someone put drugs other than just Marijuana in what you smoked. Meth, Cocaine, Ice whatever— people are stupid and think it’s ok or even funny to get someone to smoke that crap without knowing about it. Bloodtests would show if you were having some sort of adverse chemical reaction.#3-whoever grew it treated it with pesticides/fungicides or other chemicals…they remain toxic after harvesting and when smoked- make people sick… Again- doctors should do blood-work!$4- (MOST likely) You have undiagnosed Panic disorder- the Weed just triggered your first major attack. It can last for DAYS even weeks… it will come in waves… you can feel like you are having a heart attack or going to pass out… and panic disorder can make you convinced that you are dying… it’s terrible…Been there done that..have it myself and so do others in my family.Get the right doctor and counselor- and meds if necessary..Hang in there- it gets better! <3

How common is depersonalization disorder? i suffer from anxiety and depression but now i am worrying?

Don't worry too much. Daydreaming is a form of depersonalization, and any of us can do that. When depersonalization is strong, severe, persistent or recurring, it's not normal.

Depersonalization disorder is thought to be caused by severe traumatic lifetime events including childhood sexual, physical, and emotional abuse; accidents, war, and torture. Your marijuana use may aggravate your condition.

I see depersonalization as a defense mechanism, I know it is for me. It's a way to hide from reality until it can be dealt with. It is not psychosis, not even close. This disorder is often comorbid with anxiety disorders, panic disorders, clinical depression and bipolar disorder. It goes hand in hand with dissociation and derealization, just as you thought. But don't panic. You don't have to live on the edge of panic anymore.

Healing is basically an inside job, and it's hellishly painful. You don't have to do it alone, get a counselor. It will cut your pain and healing time in half. Stay away from negative people, unfamiliar environments and threatening relationships. You need to work on building trust and feeling safe and grounded - centered. Keep friends and family around you and talk

Don't worry it's common to wonder if you're going crazy, or have brain damage, fear of losing control, feel you are working below your ability, and interpersonal troubles since we are disconnected emotionally from the people we care about. We can have short attention, short term memory problems and spatial-temporal reasoning (have trouble with multi-step problems like trying to find solutions to: mathematics, art, games, architecture, engineering and everyday life).

Recovery is just a day at a time. We need comfort, love if you have that, vitamin B-Complex, a multivitamin, intense physical or emotional stimulation, contact with God to know He cares, and to learn to relax and clear the mind. Racing thoughts are disturbing and it takes time to calm them down; prayer and meditation. Prayer is talking to God, meditation is listening for the answer. Ask Him for help in the morning and thank Him at night. Let go of negative thoughts and replace them with positive thought. Think of what you do have, not what you don'[t have.

For some reason I can't smell, is it Anosmia?

How's your sense of taste? Often the loss of olfactory ability and taste go together.

It is likely that your diagnosis is correct as anosmia can follow a sinus infection. Chances are that if you can "taste" or "smell" the mucus and it seems rather foul, you will probably regain your ability to smell after the infection is really gone. In other words, as you already read, this is most likely a temporary condition...let's hope.

You're correct that loss of sense of taste and especially sense of smell is a precursor symptom of Parkinson's disease but it is usually gradual and usually not total - at least not until other symptoms manifest. (My husband has PD and this was an early symptom of his - his DX was over 6 years ago and he still has some slight ability to smell and has only lost specific taste sensations.)

OK - you probably didn't have water in your lungs but did have water headed the wrong direction.

What are you doing about the sinus infection (whether caused by cold, allergy or sinusitis? Have you tried the "old wives" steaming with vinegar which if done properly and a few times will not only make you smell like a salad but may help get rid of the infection. (Wash your hair afterwards as hair often will hold the vinegar aroma)

Bring some vinegar to a boil, create a funnel for a magazine or something and breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Might work if you don't want to try meds. And probably faster.

Broke my nose in 20 places many years ago and while it was "packed" so that it could reset, all I could smell was the same yucky smell that you smell now. Similar type situation. Eventually all was returned to normal.

About the blowing nose hard, try cotton swabs in the quiet of your bath or bedroom instead. You can do a bit of damage by blowing too hard. But when you do - you know to block one nostril. Otherwise you could cause some problem with pressure and possibly your ears as one easy path is the eustachion tubes.

Hope this ends soon for you.
