Have You Ever Been Asked If You Wanted A Lift By A Complete Stranger

Would you give a complete and total stranger a ride if they asked?

No. No way. I would offer to call a cab or a lift or direct them to the nearest bus stop, but no. Even if it was a kid, a pregnant woman, an elderly person, etc. Even if it was raining. No. No way. I gave a stranger a ride once. I ended up with a compression fracture of my right knee. My insurance company ended up playing over a thousand dollars to have my car cleaned when I got it back less than 36 hours later. My dad picked up a hitchhiker once. It was late and the young man was in an area near downtown. Dad drove him to a hotel where the man said he was a part of a youth group in town. He said had been out visiting his aunt and uncle and their car wouldn’t start when they went to take him back to the hotel. Dad dropped him off at that hotel- right across from the Greyhound bus station. And the next morning, Dad remembered the young man as the guy on the radio gave a report on the murder of a prominent business person in our city complete with a description that the wife gave of the person who had killed him. The man was apprehended, stood trial, and, at 16, was sentenced to life in prison. He made parole once and promptly raped a women who picked him up. I will assume that he is most likely dead by now. That happened in the late forties. Would I give a complete stranger that asked a ride? Visions of my daddy leaping out of his grave to slap me if I did this come to mind. No.

Have you ever helped strangers in your life? If yes explain how you feel and how was your experience.

well once i was going to my friend's place and on my way found a a lady of 50 standing asking for lift. It was very hot that day. She was sweating badly. i went up to her and asked if she needed a lift, the smile that cracked on that lady's face was such a delight to see is unexplainable. i had never done such a thing before. It made me feel i actually did something nice for a person in need. She had to go somewhere near my friend's place. So i dropped her there. The feeling of satisfaction consumed me for that day. It made me feel proud as a human being. I dont even remember her face properly now, but i do remember how she had thanked me and blessed me.

Has a stranger ever paid for you?

It was 19th May, I was attending my coaching class and going back home.I was in a crowded place waiting for a bus to come. It was about 1 PM and it was around 43 degrees that day. There was no proper bus shelter, few old people sat there, they must have been waiting for the same bus to come. I forgot I had less money, was hungry so I purchased a biscuit packet and ate them.Meanwhile a handicapped beggar comes dragging his body towards us and people kept ignoring him. I couldn’t resist to see him in that condition and his mug was empty. He had nothing to wear, nothing to eat,but he had hope.I first gave him all the coins I had, felt it won’t be sufficient enough. I went to a small shop nearby and bought a water bottle for him and I ran and gave it back to him. He smiles and says, may God bless you child. He said people confirm whether he is handicapped or not, that hurts him the most. After all this, the bus comes and everyone is in a rush to get into the bus, an old man who was sitting in the bus stop was unable to take the bus, so I got down and helped the old man take the bus and lost my seat, but the old man got the seat, I stood beside him. I had mixed feelings for a while. The bus conductor comes and gives the ticket and I don’t give total ticket fare. He starts arguing with me and speaks harsh words saying, Why do you even travel in these buses without money? He was being very rude and someone interrupts him. He’s the old man who I helped previously. He gives the remaining money to the bus conductor, the bus conductor gives a wild stare at me, nods his head thinking something in his mind. The old man asks the conductor do you know why he didn’t have the change, because he gave whatever he had to a handicapped beggar at the bus stop. I was shocked that he noticed that incident. The bus conductor says sorry to me and leaves. I thanked the old man for his support and he replies me you helped not only me but someone else too, which made me help you.Help someone, when you are in need someone will help you too !Thanks.

How should I respond to a stranger who asks for a lift while I'm driving?

I wish I could see if you were a guy or gal. If you are female your days picking up strangers ended in the 50s. Don't even try it. I'm not sure if I'd even pick up another female. I've heard stories about a lady holding what looked like a baby. It was a cold dreary evening. When a car stopped to pick her up a guy appeared out of the shadows and got in with her. It's just too big a risk to even slow down in a situation like that. If you are a guy I'd say you have to carefully look at the situation. If you're armed then you atleast have some equalizing power. If it looks a bit fishy drive past and call the police. If it's someone laying in the street you have to do the same. A friend of mine stopped for a woman laying in the street. He got out to help and she rolled over with a gun. Took his truck and his tools. So while I've done it, it's never with family and it's always a pretty safe setup. But think you have to just say sorry.

A stranger asked me if I needed a ride this morning?

It was creepy! I was walking to my bus stop it was rainy and dark this morning and I saw a man driving in a car and we made eye contact for about 3 seconds and he kept driving in a different direction. But then he drove towards my direction and asked me if I needed a ride. I said no and he asked about 2 more times and his hands were pointing to get in the car so I screamed no and started walking fast, almost running. This scares me because now he knows what area I live around since he saw me with a backpack and everything. What should I do?

Poll: Has a stranger ever offered you a ride?

Yes, but I'd never accept a ride from a stranger. That's far too dangerous! O_o

The last time that occurred was when I decided to take a long walk around the neighborhood. This creepy guy slowed his car down beside me and said "Hey, baby, do you need a ride?" How weird is that?! I told him "No!" and kept walking briskly without another word. *shivers at the thought*
