Have You Ever Heard An Album That Didn

What is the coolest album you ever heard?

I recently heard the album INSOMNIAC (INTERNATIONAL VERSION) of Enrique iglesias. I became the fan of him and his voice. I came to know that he did all his recordings for the album in night time and he is a night loving person.I actually searched for the song PUSH ft. LIL WAYNE- Enrique iglesias. Then I came across the another song of the album SOMEBODY'S ME- Enrique iglesias, amazing song with deep voice. I searched for the whole album then and listened all the songs. All were amazing. The album includes about 15 songs(few spanish songs). Actually Enrique is a spanish singer. This album was his 8th studio album and 4th english language album. He has a pain in his voice which directly strikes on the apex of heart. (Why not me-enrique iglesias from the album euphoria)I personally liked the songs enlisted1. Somebody's me2. I'm tired of being sorry3. Wish I was your lover4. Push5. Do you knowListen to the songs , I'm sure you’re gonna stick to the them.

Have you heard the new Smiths album?

SLC PUNK!

Which “classic” album have you either not heard or have heard, but didn't really enjoy too much?

I fully expect a pile-on here, but, here goes.I have to admit to being utterly underwhelmed with this album, and I think there are so many Beatles’ albums that are just plain “better”.Let’s look at the track list:Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - really just seems like fluff to me.With a Little Help from My Friends - again, this is just fluff pop, something even the Beatles admit. Really, aside from the harmonies in the background, there’s nothing really redeeming about this song.Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds - personally, I find this tune to just be annoying. The tambura is just plain jangly, the vocals are intentionally distorted to be…bad.Getting Better - mehFixing a Hole - mehShe’s Leaving Home - pretty lyrics, but McCartney’s delivery just sounds like he’s trying to do a musicalBeing for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! - what the hell is this thing???Within You Without You - what the hell is THIS thing???When I’m Sixy Four - okay, I give this some leeway because it was on the Garp soundtrack, but…again, this is just pop drivel. The harmonies are even kinda annoying in my eyes.Lovely Rita - just underwhelming, I have no idea why people even like this song, to be honestGood Morning Good Morning - seriously, what the hell is this?!?Sgt Pepper’s Reprise - fluffDay in the Life - FINALLY, something good. The lyrics are good, the music is well done, the vocals are perfect for what they’re supposed to do.So, in the entire album, we have…one truly good song. Notice I didn’t say great, just good.Compare that with Revolver, from one year prior, which I find vastly superior in so many ways, or even Cream’s Disraeli Gears, which is far more listenable to this day.I just don’t find it to be the seminal album that it gets so much credit for.

Have you ever heard a music at a store, then gone and bought the CD?

I’ve done this several times, but two times stick out for me. Some five years ago, I was in Bleecker Street Records and was hearing some music playing over the speakers. It was kind of a mix between indie rock, space rock, and free jazz cacophony and kept going on for 20-minutes or so. I went to the kid working the register to ask who it was and he said it was the Flaming Lips. Being that I was only used to their work from their origins to 1995 at the time, it sounded nothing like them. The album playing was “Embryonic.” They had no copies available in the stores, but I quickly got it with a gift certificate from Amazon a few weeks later—and just kept listening to the final set of songs from the album I’d heard in the store. The other time was at the dearly departed Other Music near Houston Street (this was also 2013). There was some real interesting bossa nova playing over the loudspeakers, but it wasn’t anything like Stan Getz or the stuff you’d get from the early sixties—it was more in tune with pop music of the early seventies. The album playing was Marcos Valle’s eponymous 1970 album. I snatched that sucker up quick and listened to that one to death.

What’s the greatest album that most people have not heard?

Music is certainly a subjective thing, which causes me to feel nervous posting this album. I sincerely wish more people who had potential to like this album had a chance to know about it, so I’ll preface with you MUST have a soft spot for bizarre and dark subject matter to enjoy this album. You stand a better chance of liking it if you like ‘In An Aeroplane Over the Sea’ by Neutral Milk Hotel, as this album also discusses sex in dark and yet blatant light (“You fuck like a racehorse”) If you’re easily trigger, I absolutely don’t recommend it.Let’s talk about it: ‘Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head’ by Jordaan Mason & The Horse Museum.‘Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head’ is a concept album which tells the story of a failing marriage between the narrator and his transgender wife. Through beautifully dark imagery the album visualizes a marriage full of confusion, mechanical sex, gender dysphoria, and pure hurt. The instrumentals mirror ‘In an Aeroplane Over the Sea’, with a typical acoustic heavy sound, yet with brass instruments enriching that sound. The lead singer’s distinctive nasally voice completes the fever dream that this album tucks you into. You may find it difficult in getting pass his quirky voice, but once you listen to the entire album, you won’t be able to imagine anyone else’s voice telling this story. This album takes a hold of your emotions and mercilessly shakes and strangles them, giving you a few instrumental song breaks to catch your breath. In mine eye, this album has the richest lyrics I’ve ever heard in an album. What makes this album epic is it’s fearlessness in telling a story on a taboo subject, and telling that story exactly how they wanted it to be told; there’s absolutely no sugar coating and it’s freeing.Again, if you’re in love with the bizarre and like it told in an unforgiving way, you may adore ‘Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head’. But don’t say I didn’t warn you!

What is the greatest band no one has ever heard of?

In the 60s Love, the 13th Floor Elevators, the Zombies, the Electric Prunes, the Sonics and the Left Banke have all released great albums and are relatively well known amongst the connoisseurs. How about another 60s band that were produced by George Martin that no one has heard of? They were a Mod favourite in their early years doing Motown covers and playing the Marquee Club but in early 67 their style changed as the West Coast washed over London. It’s evident on their last single produced by George Martin in ’67 - Shadows & Reflections. It wasn’t a hit and they were dropped later in the year. They recorded several demos in an attempt to secure a new record deal which came to nowt. These were released years later as Rolled Gold but first some of those Motown covers are pretty nifty.l’ll Keep On Holding On produced by G.MartinTheir best album is probaly a collection of unreleased demos that never made it to album stage called Rolled Gold.Strange RoadsIn my Dream - Demo “Guitar” vetsionThese demos were recorded in late 67 & early 68 and have a raw quality but imagine if George Martin had got to produce these demos?Rolled Gold - Full AlbumThey never got the deal but many members would reform as Mighty Baby, who finally got a record deal. But the Action still managed a few more demo gems before that happened.Only DreamingRemembered principally from their earlier Parlophone singles and appearances on the Marquee as one of the greatest 60s mod groups, they could have been so much more, every track on Rolled Gold is quality.

Have you ever heard of a band called "FAT"?

Doesn't sound familiar. I like that tune Lucy & Beatle Fanatic posted. The rest didn't do much for me-kind of generic and derivative, although I like that fat bass sound.

I do remember Fat Mattress http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opo1YUvVP...

and Bacon Fat w/ George "Harmonica" Smith & Rod Piazza http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29XkNoYGA...

Edit: well I did mention the bass...and that tune the others posted...and I'm adding this happy face :)
P.S. You're fabalus (yes, spelled that way intentionally)

Once again, Glen, in his strange and mystical way (much like Carnac The Magnificent) has answered a question with a riddle.

@Smiley-yeah Fat Mattress and Bacon Fat were both great (unlike this horrid noise Trixie is foisting on us :) I've known Rod from Bacon Fat for 25 plus years and knew George "Harmonica" Smith before he passed on. Here's Rod's band for the last 30 years or so, The Mighty Flyers -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7G_uPWlD... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl6m-uxRP4w the line up in the vid was the best incarnation of the group Rod, his wife Honey on piano, Bill Stuve on slap bass, Jimi Bott on drums and Alex Schultz on guitar.

@Smiley-All of Rod's stuff is great-Rod himself? not so much. His wife Honey is a doll though. I've probably seen the Mighty Flyers a hundred times or more. It was a weekly thing for me and a bandmate when we didn't have a gig of our own.

Have you ever bought an album/cd pre-internet because you liked the album cover?

twice in one day back in '83

I rode my bike 10 miles to the record store, looked through everything and wound up getting Bat Out of Hell from the Metal section. Rode 10 miles home and put it on only to find that it wasn't heavy metal at all, and it sucked. Rode back to the record store and exclaimed that they had that album in the wrong section, put it over by Madonna and went back to the M section in metal. The record that was behind Meatloaf was Metallica's Kill Em All. I'd never heard of it, but the cover just screamed Metal. Rode another 10 miles back home and discovered Thrash. Awesome moment
