Have you ever seen a cat that appeared to be sad?

I knew a cat who was so sad, he turned his face to the wall and refused all food. He wanted to die. He had been abandoned by his family. When another purebreed rescue came and took his Bengal friend—his last friend—he was left completely alone in the trailer. There was nothing physically wrong with him. It was 100 percent grief and trauma. I went through a dozen different foods to try to get him to eat. Eventually, he did—thank God—and was later adopted by a wonderful man and his cat.So yes, I have seen sad cats: this one was the most extreme.

Have you ever seen a cat catch a bird?

Although I didn’t witness this firsthand, I have reason to believe that my baby cat is, in fact, a mighty huntress. All of my family was in the back room playing computer games, and I was in the kitchen, while my cat was outside. Her cat-door was in the back room, which connected to the kitchen, which connected to the hall. After a while I hear a chirpping. At first I think it’s coming from just another bird outside, but as it goes on I can hear that it’s actually coming from the hallway. I’m sure you can see where this is going.I walked into the hallway to investigate, and a bird flew out into the kitchen, followed by the esteemed huntress herself.Somehow, she had gone past everyone in the computer room, and me in the kitchen, without the bird or her bell making a sound… …and she then lost her bird in the hallway. Well done Mittens. After that dad and I tried to catch the bird with a towel to set it free, and Mittens tried to catch it with her claws. We won, and set the bird free outside.

Have you ever seen a cat mouth breath?

Yes and no. Cats have a voromanasil (spelling?) gland (Jacobson’s gland) in the roofs of their mouths. They use this to analyze scents even further than using their noses. It looks as if they’re tasting the scent. So when your cat opens her mouth that way, she’s really being a scent connoisseur. We have a cat, Maggie, who adores the scent of our Clorox cleanser with bleach. Go figure. If your cat is panting, that’s another issue. It can indicate problems. Check to see whether her pads are sweaty. That’s a sigh she’s too hot. Sometimes they pant and drool when they’re anxious or cat sick. And so on.

Where did the term copy cat come from? Have you ever, ever seen a cat copy anybody? I did not think so....?

I don't know; cats seem very independent-minded to me. They do all have the same grooming and stretching habits. My two cats don't copy each other but they clean themselves with the same contortionist postures and go through the same stretching procedure during the 2 hours they are awake daily.

My cat called a bird! Have you ever seen this?

We had this cat named Bobby. One day I was sitting at my desk in the bedroom and was on the computer. My son was lying on my bed watching t.v. Our cat, Bobby, went up on the window sill like he often does. But this time he started making this weird chattering noise! His tail started moving strangely in spastic schizoid jerks. My son and I looked at him with amused curiosity.

Suddenly a bird flew right in front of the cat and hovered there! I mean that bird was facing the cat and hovering right in front of him. If we didn't have a screen, that bird could have been plucked like a grape by our cat. I was so astonished, I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. A few seconds later, the bird flew away and I kept yelling at my son, "Did you just SEE THAT!" It was like we just saw something magical. AMAZING!
