Did your wedding go as planned?

My wedding was an unqualified disaster. Parents and in laws hated each other and we were not sure if blood bath could be avoided during the ceremony! Really stressfulIt poured and poured and everything got washed out. (Ours was supposed to be an outdoor wedding)The wedding was scheduled for 6:00 AM. An ungodly hour. Delhi winter plus the rain. No one to do my hair and makeup. So I cajoled a local salon woman to do it. My friends had to run away to do damage control at the wedding venue so I was all alone at the salon. I am blind as a bat without my glasses so I had no idea what the beautician was doing to me. When I finally popped in my contacts and took a look at myself in the mirror, I screamed! I was hideous. Gold eye shadow, red rouge, red and white dots all across my forehead and enough flowers in my hair to sink the titanic all over againI reach the venue and my husband does not recognise me....what with all the makeup in my face. It was a disaster! I have hidden the wedding photo album where no one will ever find it!! I was the ugliest bride of the century!!! Now after almost 15 years, we still laugh when we talk of our wedding day.

How to plan a wedding for $5,000?

My fiancé and I don't want to spend any more than $5,000 on our wedding; not including our rings or the honeymoon, just the ceremony and reception. We have both lived in Connecticut our entire lives, and want our wedding to be there. However, there isn't much of anything in Connecticut that's affordable, and we're really struggling to find a venue. We have just under 150 guests, and can't cut it any more down..we both come from enormous families. both our apartment and our parent's houses aren't big enough to fit a fraction of our guests. Is there anything that's affordable, like a park or something? We don't want churches or beaches, and prefer one with both outdoor and indoor options. If you have any suggestions its much appreciated. Thanks!

What is the first thing you planned for your wedding?

So i am getting married this year either October or November but still havent set the date but we are choosing a friday. I really dont know where to begin planning. I dont have a big family (dad is an only child plus my mom doesnt acknowledge her brothers.. only talk to ONE cousin thats about it) meanwhile my fiancés family is huge (he gots like 5 aunts 1 uncle on his moms side and a bunch of aunts/uncles on his dads side)

Only thing for sure i know what I want is the type of cake i want which is not really a cake its a cupcake wedding cake... help! What is the first thing you planned?

How the hell do you plan a wedding?

There are a ton of different web sites available to help plan your wedding. I know that when I started planning mine, I started by cruising around and looking at them. Start with theknot.com then you can always move to modernbride.com. I found checklists and pictures, all sorts of things that made me really decide what I wanted.
Another thing you can do is go ahead and set your date and go register for gifts. I know that at a lot of the higher end retailers, ie Macys, JCPenney, Dillards, etc.... that they give you a planning book. Then you have it all together and can cut and paste pictures of things that you like.
If you aren't into registering right now then you can always just buy a book for $20 or so bucks at Barnes & Noble. Good luck whichever way you choose to pursue.

How far away is your wedding day? How much have you planned?

My wedding is in 41 days, 10/10/10.
I have been engaged since May 18.
Everything is done. Dress, suit, flowers, menu, alcohol, venues, cake, make-up artist/hair appointments. You name it, its done, lol.
Our wedding was not originally planned this early, but due to personal reasons we had to. However, I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I started planning right away, so moving the date up was not an issue.

It will all come together.

Congrats and good luck.

@Bride, haha thanks for the correction. Its actually 45 days away, because I live in Australia. Between studying, working, wedding planning and trying to function as a normal human being, I don't even know how many days it is until I get married! lmao!

The honeymoon (vacation) cannot get here soon enough! O.o

What do you wish you had known when you planned your wedding?

I wish I would have realized it was just a day. Just one day. A day that would come and go. Rather quickly.Sure it was important, but once it was all over and the sun set, all that mattered was that we said our vows.It didn’t matter if my dress was white or ivory. It didn’t matter if we served rigatoni or penne. If the cake was chocolate or vanilla. It didn’t matter who was standing beside me or that the caterer was a bitch or that my flowers weren’t quite right.None of it mattered. All that mattered was that we were joined.Married.Husband and wife.If I could do it again, I would have taken His suggestion and eloped. Maybe taken a few key players with us. It would have saved me months of stress and a butt ton of money.Because, in the end, the only thing that mattered was Him. And me. And Us.Me and the Hubby, just minutes after we married in 2005.Thanks for the A2A Amy Ruhlman!

How do you plan a wedding with a $0 budget?

Hi. I am hoping what you meant was a very, very SMALL budget. Obviously, you cannot do anything with $0.

However, with a very small budget you can have a wedding!

~ Do you belong to a church? Speak with your priest or minister. Most churches do not charge to use the church itself, but you need to pay the minister/priest. Most are willing to cut their fee if you explain your circumstances. Ask them! If you do belong to a church, you can simply have a little reception with cake, punch and coffee after...easy!

~ Don't belong to a church? Fine also. What about having something at someone's home, someone's backyard, or a public park?

~ A marriage license will be about $30. Then you will have to pay a justice of the peace or minister....again...see what they charge? Many are willing to negotiate.

~ Borrow a dress...or look on Ebay! I love the "vintage" ones on Ebay and some go for $10! They are so pretty! Another option is to go to a thrift store. Or simply buy a nice dress from a regular store on the "clearance rack."

~ You DON'T need to carry flowers. Perhaps if you know of someone with a garden, you can simply pick a few flowers...or look for some wildflowers.

~ All you really need for a wedding is a bride, groom, license, and someone to marry you. Everything else is just "stuff."

~ If you do want to have something a "little more"....see if you can enlist the help of family and friends. Do you know of someone who can bake? Maybe they would make you a cake as a gift? The same goes for maybe a small reception. You can do something as simple as finger sandwiches, assorted cheeses and crackers, fruit tray, nuts, cake, punch and coffee. This can be done simply and elegantly.

~ Look outside the box. Buy things at Dollar Stores, Walmart, etc. Go on Craigslist....maybe someone is giving away a bridal gown....you never know!

You can have a very simple, elegant, and intimate wedding without going over $300 if you look around!

How long before your wedding did you plan or book the wedding decor?

My wedding is less than a month away and I have not even started thinking about decor.  There are so many other things that require more time (a dress that needed to be ordered - ten weeks - and then tailored, paperwork to hand in, music to be approved by our registrar, menus to be chosen) whilst, in my mind, I could put together what the place will look like in less than a week.  I MAY be putting it off due to the fact that I am creatively challenged and don't get interior freaking design (I've already vetoed flowers because I figured that I should at least know a little about something that costs that much and I don't) and in my mind the venue itself is pretty enough without a whole bunch of frills.  Honestly, it's right at the bottom of my to-do list due to it being something that can be figured out and sourced fairly quickly and the fact that the venue is pretty anyway.  I might regret this, but frankly it's more important that clothes fit, paperwork is done, there's a decent band and good food than what forgettable centrepieces there may be.
