Having Tonsil Stone Cause Sore Throat

Does tonsil stone cause sore throat?

Can u have a sore throat cause u have a tonsil stone? I have a small tonsil stone well I think that's what it is. It's small and whitish. It's on my left side and my throat only hurts on left side. i am kinda stuffy too. So was wondering is the tonsil stone causing sore throat? And what can I do to remove it fast and easy? And what can I do so my throat won't hurt anymore? Also is it ok to leave the tonsil stone alone? Will it eventually go away on it's own? Please answer kinda worried.

Tonsil stones and sore throat?

I've been coughing up tonsil stones this past week, and since I can't take them out myself without gagging, I only gargle with water and hope they come out on their own. Most of them have at this point except for one I can see. When I was sleeping the other day, I was waken up by a coughing fit and a feeling like my tonsil stone was coming out, but it never did. So I just gargled, brushed my teeth again because it smelled and tasted awful, and went back to bed. But when I woke up in the morning, my throat was incredibly sore and dry. I thought it was because I just needed to drink something. My throat feels immensely raw, sore, dry, and it even burns a little when I swallow. I couldn't even drink cranberry/grape juice because it stung my throat. I've been drinking everything from cold milk tea, warm spiced tea, fizzy soda, water, and fruit juice. Non of these made my throat feel any better, and even the broth from chicken soup hurt to swallow.

Its been a complete day and it still hurts a lot. I even took an allergy pill to see if it would help, but it hasn't. What can I do to ease the pain?

I would love to get my tonsils removed permanently to get rid of my tonsil stones, but I've heard that doctors don't do it anymore, and the pain after surgery is longer and more painful the older you are. I'm pretty sure seventeen is too old for this to be an option. They even refuse to remove my mother's as she suffers from the same.

Tonsil stones can cause a sore throat?

I feel your pain. I too have/get tonsil stones.
The sore throat is most likely from you manipulating your tonsils to get the previous stones out. Because the stones themselves are not bacteria...you would not have a sore throat from an infection. if your tonsils do in fact become infected...they would be oozing pus and not just stones. many people have tonsil stones...get used to getting them out yourself...why? Because a tonsillectomy at an adult age is one of the worst surguries to endure.
And yes, there may be more stones that you do not see...but until they come near the top, they are not ready to come out.
Don't dig too deep or your throat will definitely be sore.
If you are new to removing stones...do not worry.
The first few times of removal are slightly painstaking...after that it will simply become something you do once a month like it is nothing unique and the pain will go away when you stop messing with them constantly.

My tonsil stones are causing a sore throat, what do i do?

I saw,on a Dr. Oz episode. He recommended using a clean qtip to push on the tonsil very gently to dislodge the stones and then spit them out. This happens to me sometimes. I usually just use my finger to push it out and then I spit them. They are usually whitish colored little balls that look like cottage cheese.

Can tonsil stones cause chronic bad breath?

Yes, they certainly do! After suffering with bad breath for my whole adult life, I finally figured this out. I had my tonsils removed three months ago,. The tonsil stones are gone and so is the bad breath. It is not the tongue -- it is the chronic fetid drip coming out of the low grade chronically infected tonsils that puts the bacteria on the tongue. This chronic infection of the tonsils causes the tonsil stones. yuck. See the link below, I found this after my surgery and find that it confirms everything that I know about my own situation. Parsley will never help this situation! Good luck and tonsil stones do give your breath a putrid smell.

WHAT CAUSES TONSIL STONES?

Tonsil stones - tonsilloliths - are caused when food particles lodges in the creases in your tonsils. Trapping of food, bacteria, dead cell, mucous from post nasal dripping can result in calcification/hardening of these ingredients to create tonsil stones. The stones can cause pain especially referred ear pain, sore throat, bad breath, difficulty swallowing and tonsil inflammation.

You can see them as whitish or yellowish lumps on your tonsils.

Although some people use picks or cotton swabs to remove them, gargling with salt water or salt & baking soda may help. You could also try gargling with vinegar because it is an antibacterial.

Since you get them often, antibiotics are not the best answer as you can quickly build up a tolerance/resistance. You already know that they can be surgically removed but that may not be cost effective if you can address them yourself.

The way to avoid them is surgical. Have your tonsils removed. When the tonsillectomy is performed, the tissue folds causing the the entrapment are also removed and....should be about 99.9% relieved of having them again. Just remember that the tonsils do have a function in your body besides causing you the misery of tonsilloliths.

I am including a link about eliminating them yourself using AktivOxigen tablets, nasal sinus drops and sometimes using an Oxygenating Spray. You also want to do periodic tongue scraping as it is the interaction of the VSCs (volital sulfur compounds) produced by the anerobic bacteria on you tongue which cause halitosis.

As to Which Foods will cause them, I did read that avoiding DAIRY might reduce or eliminate the calcification.

What causes 'Tonsil Stone'?

It could be. The symptoms of tonsilliths (tonsil stones) are bad breath, sore throat, white debris, difficulty swallowing, ear pain, and tonsil swelling. Fortunately, it can be prevented. This is obviously a chronic problem, which means that it is impossible to stop debris from collecting on her tonsils... or is there? So, how to stop tonsil stones from forming? Easy. Get a tonsillectomy. (getting the tonsils surgically removed)

I got all of this from WebMD. I'll provide a link to the page for "Tonsil Stone" here.

Tonsil stones, headache, fatigue, sore throat and ear pain?

I'm 23. I have not had my tonsils out and over the past year or so I've been getting frequent tonsil stones, headaches, red, inflamed tonsils and throat and ear pain. I've also been extremely tired all the time. I get bouts of it every 2-3 weeks and it lasts for about 3-5 days. The symptoms have also been getting worse. A tonsil stone that I removed on my own today measured about 3 x 1cm. It was clearly visible in my throat when I opened my mouth, and I think there's more in there still that is not visible, as I'm still hurting and feeling like there's a foreign object lodged in my throat. I've seen my family doctor about it and she didn't seem to be concerned. When I went to see her about it, one of my episodes was on its way out so I'm not sure if she's aware of the severity. I tried to tell her what was going on but she just brushed it off, and said that she did not recommend getting the tonsils removed or even doing anything about this, but it's getting hard to live with. All I want to do is sleep all the time and it's painful to swallow. Should I go to the doctor again and try to get another opinion? It is really not worth getting the tonsils removed at this age? Might these symptoms subside as I get older?
