Having Trouble Picking My Sophomore Year Courses

What classes should I take for Sophomore year?

So right now these are my classes:geometrychemistrywestern civenglish 3 and 4germanculinary arts : this class i want to changephotojournalism : i also want to change this classI need to go to my counciler tomorrow morning to change the classes because school starts in 2 days. I need to change 2 classes. I’m going to add study hall for one of them (i might not even be able to change this) but idk what to take for the other class. I forgot what classes I can take so I’m just going to walk in and have to tell my councilir idk what classes to take. Idk what I want to do when I’m older but I’m thinking of taking science classes but the thing is last year I had biology and I got a “D” in the class. It was the teacher, he was so boring and I wanted to learn but I had trouble remembering all the defintions of all the words. I actually find biology interesting. So what classes would you recommend?

My daughter is a sophomore in college and is having trouble choosing a major because she likes everything and is getting good grades in everything (except a B+ in chemistry). What can I do to help her without becoming a pushy mom?

A2A - First of all, a B+ is a good grade. It’s not as excellent as an A, but it’s fine. I’m not saying she should major in chemistry, but if she should happen to choose it as a major, that B+ wouldn’t be a problem for her success in chem. Why not sit down with your daughter and go through the entire course catalog together? Make a list of every subject she’d be interested in majoring in. It might be a long list, but at least it will weed out some subjects. You’ll also probably start to see a trend, maybe a predominance of social science courses, for instance. This could help narrow it further. Some possibilities to consider:Many colleges offer degrees in liberal arts or general studies, meaning the student takes a variety of courses rather than a focused major. This leads to a well-rounded education. Many colleges allow students to create their own major. If your daughter is interested in a range of disciplines with a unifying theme, this would be a great way to go.Most colleges allow students to have a double major, so your daughter doesn’t have to pick just one. So, for example, she might choose to major in both business and psychology, or both French and biology. The two of you should also discuss whether it’s important to have a major that will prepare her for a career or grad school, or whether the intrinsic education is the goal. After all, most majors don’t lead to a career or to a graduate degree that leads to a career. It’s the bachelor’s degree itself that is marketable. But if focusing on a major that will lead to a specific career is important, that will narrow things considerably. Her college’s Careers office may offer career aptitude and interest testing, which could highlight some directions to aim for.Last thought: Even after your daughter chooses a major, she will still have space in her schedule to take courses outside the major. She won’t be taking courses exclusively in one subject.

Should I take 4 AP classes during my sophomore year (of high school)?

Yes, I HIGHLY suggest you do so. I did my senior year in high school and wished I had done it earlier. It is challenging; that's the beauty of it. You will be so ahead of your peers and especially when you go to college and you will be exposed to multiple subjects so you can have a better idea what subjects you'd like to pursue during college. Because everyone likes all their subjects until it gets hard, especially in college. AP classes will really hone in on your true interests. Plus, if you get a good score on the AP exams, you can save money and time in college.

Do you have any tips for picking high school sophomore classes for next year? There’s so many options it’s hard for me to choose, but I need to decide soon.

Believe it or not, but I’m actually in the same boat.Well… sort of.Listen up, here are the guidelines for choosing your classes next year:Choose classes you think you can handleDon’t get yourself stuck with AP or IB electives that you don’t even care about. Furthermore, if you don’t think you can handle the courseload, don’t do it. Challenging yourself is fine, but not if it send you into stress and panic. Health first. Then school.Choose classes that you are interested inDo you like the classes you were already in Freshmen year? Then continue. Doing a sport or fine art for all your four years isn’t going to ruin your chances of getting into a college; in fact, it helps it. If you enjoy it, go for it.Choose classes that look good on a college resumeLanguages? AP or IB classes? Go for it, but make sure you read point 1 before doing so.A couple rules of thumb to go by:Colleges look at the consistency of your interests. To put it simply, if you take a computer science class but never took one again, or something similar, it looks bad.Advanced language classes are, all in all, not that hard. The amplifier isn’t everythingGood luck!

I'm currently a high school sophomore picking classes for my junior year. Which one should I pick, AP studio art 3D or technical and architectural drawing? Which one is better if I want to go to an architecture college?

Technical and Architectural Design if you want to go to college for Architecture. AP Studio art 3D if you want to go to an art school for sculpture, or just enjoy building things. If you can fit both into your schedule I'd highly recommend that as early as possible. You'll want the 3D skills for building models / prototypes and the Technical / Architectural Design to know if you even like the field.

What classes do I need to take for my sophomore year?

I’m not sure what courses are offered for sophomores in your school, but here are the classes I took my sophomore year:Honors biolit- basically a project based class that integrated aspects of honors English II and biology, so would be the equivalent of taking those two classesGeometry- mathematical study of shapes, math classes work differently in most schools though, so if you have already taken this, I’d go for Algebra IIHuman body systems- class for students wanting to go into the medical field, pretty much just biology with more focus on the human body, equivalent of an Anatomy classWorld history- self explanatory, study of the world, easy class, I regret not doing the AP optionSpanish II- honestly any language class would be helpful, lots of colleges look for at least 2 years of the same language, and it can help you in the workforceSome classes I took later on:Music theory (3/10)Interior design (6/10)AP US history (8/10)Government (7/10)Creative writing (6.5/10)Trigonometry (7/10)Algebra II (5/10)Mystery, Suspense, and horror- English class that focuses on aspects of the horror genre in media (10/10)Career connections- Class about different careers and preparing for the workforce (6.5/10)Personal finance/Economics (4/10)Chemistry (1/10)Physics (2/10)Principles of biomedical sciences: general study of how biology is used in the medical field (10/10)Foods I (7/10)

I'm picking my classes for my senior year. Will these classes be exhausting?

If you are doing this just to boost your ego, well, good luck!  I tried a similar situation, but I had to cut the load down to minimum full-time load, and still did a healthy amount of studying to do.It is better to focus on quality over quantity.   It is better to know few things very well, than a few more things kind of OK.Just take what is needed.  If you need all of them, then try less top-heavy stuff.  Focus on what it is that you want out of it, and what will be needed in the future.thanks for A2A

Picking classes in high school?

Okay, so I'm in french immersion, which means I take some of my courses in french.

You've got your basic courses. You have 8 courses per school year. I course= I credit. To graduate, you need 32 credits. Here in Ontario, You've GOT to take 4 credits for enlish(one each year), 3 for math, one for Canadian geography, 1 for history, and a few others.

You're going to grade 9. You'll most likely be taking English, Math, Science, Phys.Ed, Canadian geography, history, and whatever elective you choose (art, dance, drama, instrument) Well, that's how it was for me, I'm in french immersion) I believe kids in the english track get 3 electives.

Don't worry if your confused, if you're in the 8th grade now, by december, they'll start telling you all about high school :) By the end of the year, you'll be pro :)

Peace.

Which year was easier in high school, freshman or sophomore?

I am still a freshman, but I assume that for me, my freshman year will be my easiest. Next year, the one person that basically ruined my life is coming to this school when he told me that he wasn’t. Yay! Ugh.I also have only one Honors class this year, but next year I have all Honors and AP classes. So of course that will make it harder for me.So far, freshman year has been maybe the actual best year of my school life, surprisingly. I got a fresh start. Unfortunately, I won’t get that next year. :(
