Why am I having trouble answering questions on my English 10 homework?

Why am I having trouble answering questions on my English 10 homework?

For example,
How do the lines from "The Highwayman" contrast with the stark reality of the fever hospital? Why do you think the poem appeals to the two children?

This passage is from my AP English class.. and I am having a little trouble understand what it means .?

The hero has a face that might be seen as effeminate (Adonis like - male beauty), his face was so good natured that everyone saw it. The less discerning might have not noticed the spirit and sensibility in his eyes. He was besides active, genteel, gay and good humoured, and had a flow of animal spirits, which enlivened every conversation where he was present. He was so masculine as a person that he could be considered like Hercules - strong warrior) so the two things balanced out.

Only a prude would have a bad opinion of Mrs.Waters because she felt she had obligations to him. In all candor, she had a positive view of the hero. I don't know what the obligations are.

She had more than a good opinion, she had great affection for him. To be clear, she was in love with him. This term is used to describe things other than the feeling of a woman for a man, it is used as in I love T-bone steak. However, we don't try to win the attention and affections of the steak, we pine for it when we don't have one.

When we are in love, we endeavor to attract the attention of our beloved. This is why we learn all the arts of making ourselves attractive and interesting. If that were not so, there would be no purpose for dancing masters or others who teach us how to polish our manners and learn all the graces necessary. These are the whole artillery of love.
