I can hear my neighbors in my 4-plex upstairs having sex-what should I do?

I'm all down with bangin your girl.. Problem is my girlfriend and I just hear their bed springs throughout our whole apartment. I don't want to be "that guy" to ask them about it but what should I do? It's almost enough for me to move out.

Removing Mediaplex spyware cookie?

The Mediaplex cookie is a tiny cookie that identifies you anonymously for the purpose of tracking the ads you are served and making sure you're more likely to see ones you like. Imagine if there was something in your TV that weeded out the bad commercials and only allowed the good ones to show.

There is no harm to your computer or privacy. I see no point in wasting time trying to delete or block the cookie.

How do you see your Plex Collections?

That depends on which device (Plex version) you are using. But you can find the collections that you created using the Plex Media Server at the same spot where all the other filters are set. Because that is what a collection basically is. It just filters all you media in a specific library by the collection name you gave it. So to find your collections just have a look at the place where all the other filters are set and where all the sorting options are. You will find your collections there. Hope this helped.

Are the movies on Plex all bootlegged?

This ultimately depends on the person running the Plex server you are utilizing. I started my server because I was tired of having to keep all my DVDs taking up shelf space in the living room. Actually the first pebble in the pond for me was that I had a DVD get scratched badly enough that I was worried it wouldn’t continue to work. I did some research and learned about Plex. I decided I liked the idea of being able to catalog my Movies and TV shows with ratings, fan art, etc. It also makes it much easier to loan a movie or tv series to a friend without worrying about getting it back.

How can I force a PLEX media server to transcode video to AVI?

Most Plex Apps allow you to enable or disable Direct Play within their settings. Disabling Direct Play forces every item played on the App to be transcoded. This is useful sometimes if you're having trouble with media playback on a particular device. However, transcoding a media file can be CPU intensive, in addition, the transcoding process uses temporary disk storage for the converted media. Therefore, if the CPU of your Plex Media Server is not powerful enough or if your boot drive is very small, it would be much idea for you to transcode AVI to Plex with some third-party conversion application.

Can my external hard drive be my server for plex?

As far as I understand, Plex can be used in several ways.It can be used as a media server (multimedia) program on a computer in which the external drive would be storage for your files. In this case you could say that its a file server, although "server" wouldnt be the proper term. If you are thinking this way, your network would have to be up to the task of getting the files off of the external drive and then your computer would act as the actual "server" on your network sending files to the devices that you want them to.Some routers allow you to connect your external drive to it and plex running on various devices would access the files on your external drive through your router serving them up to the various devices you want to view multimedia on.Your external drive can also be used in conjunction with various smart tv's running plex, connect your external drive to your tv. Is that what you mean?If you want plex to be installed on your external drive and then without any other connection be used as a server, no. Its not a server. There are now external drives with wifi that would give the illusion that its a server because plex running on a device would access the external wirelessly serving up your multimedia enjoyment. So plex must be installed somewhere in the chain in order for it to work. Whether its Roku, Samsung, PC or the others. Installing plex on your external would only allow you to use plex when its connected to your pc - as an external drive. Just in case you consider doing this, I think that it would be more efficient to install plex on your pc and use the external as media storage. Although it would work.

Which would offer the best Plex server experience: Running Plex natively on my QNAP TS-453a or using an external Nvidia Shield?

I’ve been working with the Shield brand for sometime. I also own a Synology Diskstation NAS. I’ve spent years working out the best possible media center experience - both inside and outside my network. The Nvidia Shield TV is a powerhouse. You need only look at the specs. You sound like you’re already having issues with the QNAP which is unrelated to specifications.I run Plex Server on a PC in my house. Just too damn many transcoded streams going out to friends and family.According to my sources at NVidia and Plex, you can only expect the Shield TV to handle about 3 connections requiring transcoding before peaking out. I’ve had 6 on my PC simultaneously without issue. The QNAP isn’t without power for sure - but Shield has a big advantage; that is the fact that Plex and NVidia have worked VERY closely on the synergy between their products - which usually leads to better performance and functionality. You need to consider your storage situations. Plex on Shield accesses NAS and network shares JUST FINE. If what you’re looking for is “one box for Plex AND storage”, even the Shield TV Pro’s 500GB unit may not be up to your needs. You can’t expand that drive - but you can use several external drives. Understand that Android cannot WRITE to those external sources - only READ from them. Normally not an issue, but we need to be responsible in saying so.I believe the best Plex experience OUTSIDE of running on a Windows based dedicated PC is indeed the NVidia Shield TV.
