What can I eat for a healthy lunch?

Sandwiches are actually a nutritionally complete meal, if you're careful about what you put on it. The bread is good energy to get you through the day, you can put veggies on it for nutrition, a protein source (meat or substitute). -Limit the size. A Subway footlong, for example, is a ridiculous portion size. Stick with two slices of bread, or a bun of similar mass. -Don't add snacky things onto your meal. The sandwich alone is probably enough to satisfy your calorie intake for that meal. -Lean meats, like turkey and chicken, are best. Avoid processed meats if possible.-Try using mustard instead of mayonnaise-based sauces.Aside from sandwiches, it's really east to throw together a stir-fry the night before. You can make several lunch's worth of food in one shot. Load it up with your favourite veggies, use a lean meat/substitute, use some rice or noodles for energy, and (this is important) make your own sauce/avoid bottled sauces.-Bottled sauces tend to have way more calories than you'd think. They tend to have a lot of sugar.-You can avoid using cooking oil by using a grilling wok to cook the veggies.-There are many sauce recipes online, but the healthiest options are based on things like:---No sauce at all, just olive oil and generous herbs and spices. You'd be surprised how well this works. ---Soy sauce (already a standard stir-fry sauce ingredient.)---Chicken/beef/vegetable stock. Adds flavour to veggies if you put some in the pan, and leftover liquid is easily transformed into a sauce (add whatever else you want to it, thicken with corn starch in cold water if necessary.)---Home-made sweet sauces are still vastly healthier than store-bought because you're in control of how much sugar goes in. There is certainly nothing wrong with using honey, a bit of fruit juice, etc. in your cooking! You just have to mindful of the portions.

How many calories in a healthy lunch?

Lunches should be around 500 calories or less for girls, not to sound sexist. For example you can get a six inch turkey sandwich at subway that has 280 calories. Add some chips and water to it and you have a complete lunch for under 500 calories.

What are some healthy lunches that are easy to make?

I used to pack my lunch everyday… Contrary to popular belief, a lot of those ideas floating around are not easy at all.The easiest for me for a balanced meal was to cook extra at dinner the night before and fill my box. I bought two classic Lock and Lock containers Lock & Lock Singapore - one about 4″x4″x4″ and one about 4″x6″x4″. Great investment. They set me back about USD10 and are both still around. In this situation, I'd fill the smaller one and that's good for a lunch. There was a fridge available in school but no microwave so whatever it was it'd have to be good to eat cold. My favourite was a chicken pasta salad - 1lb penne, cooked to packet instructions, 4oz white button mushrooms sliced to 1/4″, half a 1 pint container of cherry tomatoes halved, four chicken thighs, poached and shredded, and vinaigrette to taste. I made my own vinaigrette too - 1 part balsamic vinegar to 3 parts olive oil. Basically you want to just coat all the ingredients and not have it dripping. Most often though, my dinner wasn't good cold or there wasn't enough leftovers. Then I'd make sandwiches and the bigger box came out to play. Usually then it was ham and tomato and mayo and mustard. I'd wrap it in a paper towel, put it in the box, and pour whole washed cherry tomatoes in the gaps. I'd eat the sandwich at lunch and much on the tomatoes all day. Or I'd skip the gaps and fill the small box with tomatoes. I used to make a killer sandwich with tomato pasta sauce - spread some on each slice of bread, fry an egg over medium to well, and voila, awesome sandwich. If you have time to experiment with you flavors, DIY instant noodles is great. Literally just add hot water and let sit. Just remember that the water doesn't cook anything, just warms it up. I recently made one with curry paste (I'd made my own curry from scratch the night before, but store bought is fine), frozen mixed veg, fully cooked rice noodles (the sort used for pad Thai) and a chicken thigh (as above, poached and shredded). Go crazy with it; you just need a flavor base, noodles, a meat and some veg. Fairly easy if produced in bulk. The Food Lab: Make Your Own Just-Add-Hot-Water Instant Noodles (and Make Your Coworkers Jealous) How To Make DIY Instant Noodle Cups — Cooking Lessons from The KitchnIf you do have access to a microwave however, the sky is your limit. Again, I like bringing leftovers from the night before. Make an extra portion of pasta or curry and you're set.

Healthy school lunch ideas?

I'm a high school student who really needs to lose weight. I'm about 50 pounds overweight. I've been working out for an hour a day for the past week, and already feel better. I've also been eating well. The problem is, I'm going back to school in a few days, and need some healthy lunch recipes. I've been eating foods that can't really be packaged and sit in a lunch bag for four hours or so. Do any of you have some healthy recipes? Also, do you recommend any type of thermos or ice pack or something, so I can bring yogurt or cheese? Thanks so much!
