Heaven And Hell Painting

What is the heaven and hell painting in Batman v Superman and is it real?

The painting depicts the expulsion of the Archangel Lucifer from heaven by fellow Archangel, St. Michael, as told in Revelation 12: 7 -9 (and Milton's Paradise Lost). And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.It is an oft depicted scene in Christianity.  There are in fact two artistic depictions of it in the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  It is shown in Lucifer's study and in the Wayne mausoleum. The image is shown in two forms in the film because it is also treated metaphorically in two or three forms in the film.  We can see the image of St. Michael, in his red cape, impaling the dragon with a spear represented in the scene of Superman impaling Doomsday with Bruce's spear.  We can also see its allusion to the story of the future Justice League films in the painting in Lucifer's study.  At the final scene of the film we see the painting now hanging upside down.  Instead of the forces of light (St. Michael) towering over the fallen forces of darkness (Lucifer), the inverted painting reveals the the forces of darkness are now on top.  The actions of the film have resulted in the attention of a dark force being acquired, setting up a foreboding conflict in the future films.  We can also see the battle of light and dark being more basely representative of the titular battle of the film, with Superman as St. Michael and Batman as Lucifer. There are many paintings, etchings, engravings, and drawings for art history that depict this scene.  I have not seen any conclusive statement about the source of the painting that hangs in Lucifer's office (shown below).  However, since Lucifer, as shown closely in the final scene, very strongly resembles a certain DC character that may appear in the next film, I find it likely that this painting is a custom commissioned version (with true to Snyder muted colors) for the film. Source inspirations for the painting likely included some of the following:Gustave Doré's illustrations for Milton's Paradise Lost. his painting The Triumph of Christianity Over Paganism and The Fall of the Damned by Peter Paul Rubens, about 1620.

Is grim reaper an entity that resides between heaven and hell?

The Grim Reaper isn't the same as the Angel of Death. The Grim Reaper is a sort of sinister figure while the Angel of Death is Michael the Archangel. The same Michael the Archangel that defeats Satan and who protected the body of Moses after his death. In many paintings you'll see him carrying a sword in one hand and scales in the other. The scales symbolize the judgment of the dead before he escorts them to Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell. I guess he might seem 'grim' to those who are destined to Hell but to the rest he's a protector sent to guard their souls from evil at the time of their deaths.

Will you display the heaven and hell painting in Superman V Batman?

Sure, why not?It indicates the duality of life. Not necessarily good vs evil. But conflict and disagreements, brought about by difference in perception, itself resulting as an inevitable consequence of free will. The white and the fair angels make the side you support, while the demons symbolise the principle you would - well, not necessarily oppose, but would not prioritize over that of the angels. The red capes are coming….

Who made the medieval hell painting?

The most famous painter who made a (late) medieval or actually Renaissance painting of hell would be the Dutch painter Jeroen Bosch, or Bosco as the Spanish like to claim him because he lived and worked in the (Spanish) Habsburg Empire. One of his most famous paintings, the ‘Garden of Lust’, is currently on display in the Prado museum in Madrid, Spain.Bosch was known as a painter of devils, as his favorite subject was hell and to a lesser extent, heaven. He knew particularly well how to depict the fears of his contemporaries in dark hell scenes and worlds full of bizarre and frightening monsters.

What was the painting on the wall in Lex Luthor's house in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

I hope you are asking about the painting behind him in the below image. What is the name of the painting behind Lex Luthor in Dawn of Justice while he is talking with the senator at his home? discusses the same and Prithviraj Samala's answer covers it:Being an artist myself i tried to find out about the painting. the painting maybe be fictional but draws an inspiration from "paradise lost-fallen angel" this painting depicts Lucifer falling from heaven to turn into the devil just like the reference from BvS Lex Luthor: Do you know the oldest lie in America, Senator? Devils don’t come from hell beneath us. They come from the sky.[SPOLIERS] [Batman v Superman] Painting in Lex's house • /r/FanTheories suggests that at the end of the film, the painting is flipped up side down to denote the devil coming from the sky. But it also shows the God coming from under the ground - Supes!PS In Batman v Superman, what did Lex Luthor want the painting upside- down? is an interesting read too.
