Help Baby Help

How can I help a sick baby get some sleep? He just started antibiotics and we’re giving him Tylenol.

Dealing with a sick child is always hard, both emotionally and physically - hang in there! I always hate that helpless feeling when you want so badly to help, but just can't figure out how, since nothing seems to make him feel better. With ear infections or anything involving nasal blockages/mucous, elevation is usually helpful. Unfortunately, this might mean holding baby to sleep at night - with yourself propped up/elevated. A really great recliner with high, soft armrests for you to prop yourself on is invaluable. Otherwise, I have one of those bed backrests that college kids often use. During cold season, I can pretty much assume I'll be using that sucker pretty regularly, so it just stays behind my pillow in bed. The Tylenol should help with some pain, but if your doctor okays it (often depending on baby's age/weight), you can sometimes alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen, which should help with discomfort.I've also found that motion helps, holding baby and sort of bounce walking gently with him, or just gentle patting...anything to establish a comforting repetition and distract him from his discomfort! As previously stated, nursing helps...not only is it comforting, but sometimes the swallowing can help relieve pressure. Pacifiers can do the trick too.If it's not hot out , a warm blanket or towel might be comforting - just stick it in the dryer for a couple minutes. If it is hot, a cool, wet washcloth on the forehead might help.Otherwise, anything comforting to distract the baby/soothe him or her is worth a try. My middle son always loves baths; even as a young infant, we could give him a bath to comfort him...of course, you'll want to be extra careful not to get water in his ears if he's already got ear pain!Good luck...just try as best as you can to stay calm, because the more upset I'd get, the more upset my baby would get.

Would gas drops help my baby poop?

Ok I know it's normal for them to go a day without pooping, but she normaly poops at least 3 times a day. Messy orange breastmilk poops. Normally blowouts ><. Today she has been quite cranky, which I'm assuming is from her teething. But I have been looking back on the day and she only had her wake up poop earlier. Since then there's been two diapers with a quarter sized splotch of poop. So I guess I'm wondering if needing to poop would be attributing to her crankiness. She's just 4 months old, been starting teething for 4 weeks or so and is exclusively breastfed. Not starting solids till about 6 months. She's not been crying so much today, it's more like an angry yelling if that makes sense. Now I've finally got her quiet, wrapped up tight, and she just nursed to sleep. Wish me luck that she'll stay asleep for awhile.

How did you help your baby with colic?

I don't recommend this. If you do this, do not leave your baby for a second due to the danger of falling or burning. Seriously, I will cry and feel awful if any baby is adversely affected by a parent not paying 100% attention while doing this. Don't even look at your phone. My experience with baby colic: I was at my wit's end with worry. My firstborn from the time he was born had what seemed like a months' long stomach ache that turned out to be colic even though he was breastfed and I was very careful about what I ate (healthy foods, nothing spicy). An older neighbor saw me walking with him outside, and, hearing him screaming, told me the trick she used with her own children. She said that her baby needed to relax, and to relax he needed to have some pressure on his stomach, heat, and vibration. She stood next to me in my garage (where the washer/dryer were located) and instructed me to layer a batch of clean towels onto the dryer's top to make a mattress that would be warm but not too hot (it was a front loading dryer). Then she told me to turn on the dryer, lay my baby stomach-down on the towels, stand next to and hold my baby so he would not fall, and to watch the magic.I was freaked out. I was afraid it would get too hot. I kept putting my hand under his 'mattress of towels' to make sure it wasn't too hot. They were the right thickness and height. And the vibration, noise, pressure on his stomach, and warmth soothed him immediately. It was a miracle. I used 'the dryer trick' for those times when nothing else worked. It always did.

Pls help with found baby mice?

I was removing some old bags from my shack and there were a lot of mice hidden between the bags. They of course ran away, but while I was tidying i found 5-6 small pink baby mice (without any hair) lying somewhere between the bags. Should I do something for them or should I just leave them if i want them to survive? Will their mother come back to help them?

How does baby powder help a baby's diaper rash?

Originally the idea behind baby powder (and cornstarch) was that the powder helped prevent diaper rash by absorbing moisture that could irritate baby’s sensitive skin and cause a rash. Once a baby has a rash, it helps keep everything dry—along with whatever ointment you use—and this help the rash heal. Then the American Academy of Pediatrics published information that baby powder contained talc, which is very bad for the lungs. People switched to baby cornstarch but then they found that cornstarch is really glorified sugar and yeast thrives when it can feed on sugar. Yeast infections, jock itch, call it what you will, babies get them too, especially when their skin is already inflamed and irritated by diaper rash.Recently there have been lawsuits because apparently not only does talcum powder cause respiratory problems, but it can also travel up the fallopian tubes and settle in the ovaries where it can cause cancer. One estimate is that as many as 10,000 women may have a 33% greater chance of having developed or developing perineal cancer due to using talcum powder.Apparently Johnson & Johnson executives knew this and failed to tell anyone. Tsk. Naughty greedy people! When will they learn?Apparently after they kill off a third of the females of America. Lawsuits have commenced. Warnings still have not been put on powder containers despite more than 20 studies since 1971.Needless to say, the only way baby powder helps a diaper rash is by doing away with the host. Wish I’d known that when my kids were babies!

My baby just ate DOG FOOD? help?

Dont worry Mama! its not the end of the world. If it was toxic then you would not be feeding it to your dog. Give baby a bottle and some people food to wash it down. She probably didnt eat much and they eat sooo many worse things on the playground. Not to mention, if you live with a dog, she comes in contact with his tounge a lot im sure. And dont feel so guilty, give yourself a break you are doing great!

Can having sex, and can semen, help a baby to grow. while you're pregnant?

No. Once the first sperm breaks the wall of the egg (impregnating the woman), that's it. The semen's job is over. No more sperm break through.

After that point, semen (no matter when or where applied) adds nothing to the development or health of the baby.

Is your friend pregnant? If so, sounds like her baby daddy is just trying to get some. Dudes like that will also tell you that semen is good for sore throats, or that you can't get pregnant your first time. Either way, don't believe 'em...

Will having a baby help depression?

No children are born and raised in ideal circumstances. Perfect parents don’t exist, and neither does a perfect upbringing. Everyone faces issues of one kind or another during childhood, like financial hardship, illness in the family, or personal difficulties with school or friends. While it’s not ideal for a child to have a parent with depression, know that no other circumstance you could bring a child into would be perfectly ideal, either. The same genes that are linked to conditions like depression, anxiety, and addiction may also provide benefits like heightened emotional awareness and better memory. Mood disorders are also correlated with greater creative expression. Children with these genes who are raised in stable, healthy homes may experience these benefits without developing mental health problems. If you have depression now or have had it in the past, it’s important to make a health plan before you become pregnant. You may need to take special precautions for a healthy pregnancy. Your doctor might refer you to a counselor or advise you about lifestyle changes you should make before trying to conceive.Antidepressants pose a number of serious health risks to babies in the womb. However, untreated depression and anxiety can also be dangerous to an unborn baby’s health, as well as to your own. Talk to your doctor about the safest choice for you and your baby.
