Gaming computer? laptop vs. desktop? maple story? help?

Hi.i have a few questions.sorry if this is a bit long but any answers you can give would be great.well,i want a good gaming computer.i've checked around on other posts here.read a few of them but i just wanna be sure to get a good answer for my questions i'm still having.

1.laptop vs. desktop?
what would be better? my current laptop i have (from toshiba) overheats alot just from leaving it on for awhile.would a desktop be better for gaming? and seeing as i don't think those really overheat much.
----------
2.i was thinking of getting a laptop or desktop from alienware.
but i've heard that thay overheat easily (the laptops atleast)? is there something wrong with alienware products? from what i got from it..is that those are reeaally really good.so what do you think about it?
or maybe another computer name brand you think is worth me looking at?
----------
3.i'm mostly gonna use this for maple story.what would be a good set of requirements on it?
like GB,processors,graphics,memory,ect..
----------
4.i'd like to have windows xp/2000 (since that's the one it's most compatable with)
but i've heard you can't get computers anymore with windows xp/2000 on it? just windows 7 or vista ect..? if that's the case..what would be the next best thing for running maple story smoothly.because i now run maple story on windows 7 and it's really bad.maybe it's just my laptop i got.but i've heard from alot of gamers aswell, who do have windows 7 and play maple.it's not that great.
----------

i know the decision is up to me in the end.but yeah.any comments you have to say about the questions i've asked, really appreciated. :]
thanks~

Shoud AMD Processor and ASUS Mother board and ATI Graphics cards is a faithful barnds?

There's nothing wrong with AMD. You will usually get much more performance for the amount money you will spend. Personally I prefer Nvidia graphics cards but thats more of a personal preference. I have had good luck with MSI motherboards which are usually as good as ASUS for less. ASUS makes most of it's money off brand recognition.

In gaming, which is most important, RAM or graphics card?

Well, definitely a graphic card.Your graphic card is the one that does the rendering work, RAM is just there to keep the data available for the CPU and GPU to access. Nowadays usually you get 6-8 gigs of RAM installed in a decent laptop. Even a 4Gb RAM is sufficient if you’re not into 2k or 4k gaming. But if you buy a Graphic card that itself has a memory of 4Gb, then of course you will need atleast 6Gb of RAM for it. But even if you increase this limit to, say 16Gb, you won’t notice much of a difference in gaming. Your frame rate would hardly increase by 2–5 fps.Now CPU on the other hand is equally important with the graphic card. You might install a GTX 1060 6Gb graphic card, have 8Gb of RAM and installed an i3 processor, still you wont be able to get the best out of your system. The GPU is way too powerful that your CPU. In this config, your CPU would be running at 100% with somewhat 60% of RAM usage and about 40–50% of GPU usage. So you need to see that this doesn’t happen. A system can take care of itself if the RAM is less, but it just cannot handle a slow processor. As it will take the whole system down with itself.

Whats the best sound cards and graphic cards for windows vista?

hi sandra
depending on your budget theres plenty of sound and graphic cards to choose from however if you allow yourself a budget of £100 then you could get these
the HIS ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB DDR2 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc... a brilliant graphics card for it price,i knew you used a agp graphics interface as the fx5200 only came in the agp interface
the ATI Radeon X1650 has some amazing specifications including a 587mhz clock speed and a 512MB-128bit 4 channel DDR2 memory running at 800MHz
and with its ICEQ cooling system this will look the part in any p.c,and of course its 100% vista compatible
nopw for your sound card, with just £36 left of your £100 budget you would normally start to worry, however dont, for a great pci sound card the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc... a great audio device, its audio processor is one of the best around, with 24-Bit/96kHz 7.1 sound, the one thing you will notice about this card is the crispness of the sound, explosions sound like explosions and a gunshot will crack like the real thing, this is a awesome soundcard and combined with the ATI Radeon X1650 this will produce a massively improved gaming experience
any problems let me know
good luck sandra !

Should I consider my processor and motherboard while buying a graphics card?

Definitely YES !Consider this. You want an assembled car.You want smooth and powerful engine (like Mercedes, for instance.)You want great interiors (like Ferrari)You want great speed, and much more…BUT ! you want to use bullock cart’s tires !!!Now tell me, what will happen ? The ‘assembled’ car will give the performance as per your expectation ?NO ? Then building PC is same like this. Hence, if you seek better performance, TRY TO CONFIGURE BETTER! And this is a job of professionals!A professional hardware person hold all the knowledge of how component works and how much compatibility they holds with each other.First, define your purpose. Then choose motherboard first (because its the the key component which will hold all communication between other hardware)Second choose best SSD + RAM combo ! See the QVL (Qualified Vendor List) from motherboard manufacturer from their respective website. Choose the ‘best’ suggested by motherboard manufacturer. Then finally select the Graphics card suitable for your requirement and motherboard, too. Then you will have the perfect combination of all :)By the way don’t forget the heat generation. For this, buy a nice cabinet supporting enough cooling even on heavy load. Otherwise, you wont be able to handle the “annoying” fan noise !Hope this will be sufficient. Good luck !

I have 2 GB graphics card memory and 16 GB of RAM. Why can't my PC still play games in ultra settings or can I get my on-board graphics card to use the full 16 GB?

Since you say your motherboard can support 16 gb of ram, I'd guess that you have a fairly good cpu and that you'd also have Intel integrated graphics along with your graphics card. If you have a 3rd or 4th gen cpu @ atleast 2.6 ghz, thats way more than enough for most games out there..Now what about your hard disk?If you have a standard hard disk, specifically the 5400 rpm type, you're gonna get shitty gaming performance because it has ridiculously slow read/write speeds. I sold my old dell xps (i7,7gb ram,4 gb graphics) for the very same reason.Best thing you could do (if this is your problem) is to get a SSD and install whatever games/programs for which you want better performance onto that, because SSDs have considerably higher read/write speeds as compared to a hard disk. You will notice a vast improvement.7200 rpm HDDs are acceptable. Also, make sure to keep your hard disk defragmented at regular intervals.(DO NOT DEFRAG SSDs.EVER.).Next, we check how fast your ram is. You obviously have ddr3 ram and acceptable gaming speeds for ddr3 is 1600 mhz and higher(upto 2000+ mhz). If your motherboard only supports much slower speeds, then this could be your problem. The only solution is to buy a motherboard that supports faster speeds and buy faster ram as well..Next, does your pc have overheating issues? Try to keep it as clean as possible from the inside, no dust-clogged vents, etc. Spick and span it should be. If possible buy a cooling unit. Remove the side panels of your chassis, they only trap hot air and heat everything up. Try getting your cpu cooling paste replaced or changed for a more heavy duty type paste. This works wonders..Try downloading the latest drivers for your gpu. Its possible you may have outdated drivers that are incompatible with the games you're trying to play..Do you have other resource hungry applications running in the background? Use task manager to kill unnecesary tasks and then play..I can't think of anything else, but if you still have problems you can send me your pc's configuration and I'll try to see what could the issue could be.

Intel HD Graphics 3000 vs AMD Radeon HD 6290?

I think it's a good idea to keep looking. These two aren't really for gamers.Go to "Game Requirements Check".On this site you will find minimum requirements for most games. There is also a list of processors and a list of graphics cards.Search these three lists and you will find what you will need.
