Help How Can I Lift My Leg Higher In Ballet

How can I get a higher passé position in ballet?

My teacher has been bugging me lately about getting my passé higher (it is kinda droopy) but I'm having problems. I feel like my leg just won't go any higher unless I lift my hip, which obviously, I don't want to do.

Are there any exercises I can do, or things I should focus on in class to try and get a higher passé?

How can I get a higher relevé for ballet?

If you are talking about a higher relevé on demi-pointe, then you need at least two things… strong enough calf and ankles to support and sustain the position and flexibility in the back of your toes and the plantar faciae. So in order to get a higher relevé, you need to do exericises like toe rises (as well as controlling the descent to flat position (while keeping the ankle in alignment). Your can do this on a step, so you are going past the angle your could from the floor. Or you can do relevés with a theraband around your ankle (sideways to the barre and connected to the barre for resistance). For flexibility in the plantar fascia and back of toes, I would suggest massaging the bottoms of your feet with a small ball and stretching your feet by placing the ball against a wall, put your metatarsal against the ball with your toes upward and doing demi pliés like this.

How to increase leg strength for ballet?

Okay, wasn't quite sure how to phrase it, but here's the issue: my right side is definitely weaker than my left. It's been especially notable lately, because we're learning the Sugarplum Fairy variation in my pointe class, and there's a lot of balances (and relevés) on the right leg, which I've been struggling with, but know I can do with relative ease on my left.

I think part of the issue (maybe even the main issue) is that I have pretty hyper-extended knees, and while I can control it decently well on my left side, for some reason my right leg is weaker, and I struggle to really pull up, so my leg is all loose and wobbly and then I can't balance or relevé properly. I asked my teacher, but she wasn't much help, she said to just keep working on it, and it will come with time, but I'd love to know if there are some exercises I can do to speed the process up, especially since it's not both sides (at least not as dramatically).

I'm also doing some core exercises, since I know that's a big part of balancing, but any tips on how to build up my leg strength so I can control my hyperextension/pull up better?

Ballet , tips for developee?

Hi I'm 19 and getting back into dance. I am able to do all "three" splits - mid, left front and right front. But I can't lift my leg past hip level. When I pull it up into a leg hold it reaches my shoulder (I am 5'6) and when I use and assisted stretcher it can go all the way up to my head. I am pretty athletic, but do I need to buld more strength? I workout every day - morning and before bed. Are there leg strengthening exercises I should try?

this is an excellent example of how your leg extention should IDEALY look. the truth is i dont know how extensive your ballet training is but your hip raising is an indication that you are fighting to get your leg higher than your turnout will allow so yes its natural but dont solely work on strenghth work on turnout also not only will is make it easier to get your leg higher it will also make it look prettier! a good exercise for improving turnout is lying on your back hips flat on the floor with the bottom of your feet pressed together try to get your knees to the floor. For added resistance try to bring oyur heels to your butt and knees touch the floor. Note: this is VERY difficult. Lie there for about 20 minutes then bring your knees together slowly. This should help to bring that hip down :) hope this help you!

How is it possible that male ballet dancers don't have an erection while closely dancing beside their female partners?

I did have a boner once when I was like 12 in a dance studio long long time ago.I forgot why. I only remember that it was quite a moment that I prefer not to experience again. And yes, there are quite a few sexy ballerinas. But there's a lot less sexual atmosphere once you get use to it. When every girl in the room wears tights, for us, it not only becomes a norm, but also we will turn our attention into something like "hey, how can I impress everyone in the room?" instead of "OMG I cannot control my hormone."Besides, we have dance belts. dance belt - Google Search It's a thing that place your package in the right place so it will not "shake" on stage. It also can be viewed as a safety net for sudden erection, because it will make it less obvious, if you are concerned about that ;-)Last, joking aside, male ballet dancers go to dance because we really love ballet. We love to dance. I mentioned this because this is the ultimate force that outweighs everything on the side. People could not understand this because they've never gone on *stage* and dance.

If a male dance teacher often holds your hand, thighs, shoulder to teach you, is that OK?

Thanks for all the answers! To follow-up on the questions, no, I'm the only one who gets this attention, but, then, I'm also the newest student. The question didn't even occur to me until he came over to kneel down in front of me and try to hold my thighs straight while we were doing an in-place shuffle. Not saying anything first. Based on what I'm seeing, think that other people need that help, too. It doesn't really make me feel uncomfortable, just makes me wonder sometimes about what the proper etiquette is. He's a very young, enthusiastic teacher, so probably just wants to help.
