Why do you listen to music when you workout?

I listen to funk DJ remix sets. My favorites are the “funk the world” series by the Fort Knox five (they invite other highly respected DJs to make mixes) which incorporate funky music from all over the world. This keeps it fresh and new nearly always. They currently have 49 one hour (or so) long funk the world mixes available. So there is a huge diversity, from this one single source. As a side note, I would like to add that I also use audiophile grade earbuds, and a FIIO X3 lossless media player coupled with a high quality FIIO A3 portable amp. I am constantly blown away by my audio quality nearly each day, and this is an old rig!

I need motivation to workout!?

Well a motivation factor could be to impress someone you always wish that you could, maybe that person you like is with someone but hey not everything may last forever- and when they finally break up with that loser then by all means; go for the rebound and look good doing it. Alternatively you could consider looking attractive for your future mate and consider the fact that in a relationship that you can only really respect someone who respects themselves and let's face it- someone who lets themselves go obviously probably lacks the ability to care for anything else either. Not saying everyone is like that but let's assume that is what is going through the majority of people's minds. Yes, people can be evil but hey- it's always fun to shove that dirt they threw you right back! :D

Here's a few tips... if you need them:

For starters stress can affect your metabolism. If you stress yourself out with the concern of how you measure your progress then your already on a bad start. I personally find that everyone who tries working out/ dieting will find it impossible to actually make progress when they're simply too concerned about achieving a certain goal.

Secondly I guess if your not stressed then the next esscential step would be dieting. Drinking AT LEAST a gallon of water (I hear you technically need two gallons but who are we kidding sometimes, not all of us are going to spend the day by the faucet sipping on water).

Lastly, how long are your workouts and what workouts are you doing? Certain workouts like crunches will burn only burn little fat but only build muscle. So sometimes the illusion of gaining is put off by muscle gain at the same time. Either way; doing cardiovascular workouts that affect your entire body like Running, Squatting, Playing Sports, swimming, etc. will greatly improve how you look by burning fat. You can't do just one routine and expect it to berid of all your body fat. It takes time and it takes alot of energy. If time is a problem then by all means; go to a nearby health store and check to see what vitamins they can offer. If time is not an issue then just go and do whatever, getting out of the house may not be a bad thing but remember to never follow a routine- be spontaneous and make it fun. ^,^

A few personal faves:
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Eric Prydz - Call on Me
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Nelly Furtado - Maneater
Britney Spears - Piece of Me
Kayne West - Stronger
Alice Deejay - Better off Alone (this song make me want to DANCE!)
Yolanda Adams - I Believe (this song's a bit slower, but it still gets me pumped and feeling all dramatic)
UFO - Sneaky Sound System
Jet - Cold Hard B*tch

I tend to lean more towards techno/electronica/pop when it comes to work out songs.
Also, if you like any of the artists I've suggested I strongly advise you pay a vist to http://www.last.fm/music. You tell them the band/singer you like, and they tell you some similar artists! It's really great. I've got an account set up there under 'torta-amore' (Italian for 'cake-love' ;] ). It's totally free!

Have a good one, xx

Can you workout without music and why or why not?

I work out without music. If you listen to music while running, I think it can be dangerous if you’re running on the road and you’re not concentrating on what you’re doing. What will happen if you’re running across a road and you don’t see a car coming your way and it hits you. This could have been avoided as if you weren’t paying attention, you would at least hear the car coming in your direction or hear the horn.If you are doing muscle building exercises, I like to focus on each muscle I’m building. You really need to focus on the muscle(s) you are training for maximum result and proper form. Listening to music while doing muscle building exercises tends to make me lose concentration and as a result, I’m not focusing on the muscles I’m working on and as a result, I won’t be executing the movements in good form. However, in saying that, plenty of people can train while listening to music. These people can still concentrate wile listening to music as they can focus on the training while leaving the music in the background of their mind. Each to their own
