Tell me about swimming?

Swimming freestyle (front crawl) and butterfly will work basically the same muscles, but backstroke and breaststroke will work different ones because they are very different motions. Generally you'll work everything in your shoulders, your pectorals, deltoids, abs, lower back and triceps. As a person above me said, swimming doesn't build muscle the way weight training does, so you will gain a little muscle, but you'll mostly be toning.

Doggy paddle is difficult because it is so incredibly inefficient-you have a very short and not very powerful stroke and you are not swimming high enough in the water. If you are trying to get in shape I would not recommend doggy paddle. To equal the number of calories burned while running a mile, you'd only need to swim 500 yards or so, but that also depends on your form and how hard you are working.

Swimming- Diving and Stroke Help?

i am 18 and have been swimming since i was 6.

first off, dive after the beep. not before, not during, you don't want to false start.
when you dive, dive out as far as you can. there is no specific angle but the farther you push yourself off the block the better. with some practice you increase your distance by looking up at the end of the pool where you're swimming to. it makes your body longer and helps you get further ahead of the people your swimming against.
it is customary for every stroke you do an "underwater pull out" which is the breast stroke pull and frog kick. then when you break to the surface you start swimming making sure to pull your elbows up and back past your ears every stroke. kicking is very important, but the two go together. the faster you pull and the harder you kick determines your finish.
breast stroke is all about your kick and timing. you can't butterfly kick off the wall with this stroke, you can only do the breast stroke pull and kick the entire time. be sure to touch the wall with two hands every time with this and butterfly.

nothing really can increase your stamina except for what your doing, practice. just keep sprinting and working on the basics. try new stroke techniques. see a swim coach if you can.

How to get better at swimming?

well first of all that doesnt determine the speed technique does. its like a 70-30 split, technique 70 30 strigheth.

if you are willing to devote then 1) get to a pool and swim

2) when you in practise make an impression

when they tell you extend your arms and strch then extend your arms and strech this way the coachs will see that your devoted and not just anotehr kid on the team heres an example of me

when the team started it was my first year, first practise eveyrones new, when they showed us the technique and i listied insted of gofing off and eventually i found i wa the fastest breaster stroked in juniors, i also reaelzied im good enouigh to compete with the seniors now even in practise im swimming with the seniors

Why can swimming help people become healthier?

Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, but should not be the one and only exercise routine you do, because it is not weight bearing. You should incorporate swimming with another sport like running, dancing etc.It’s like when space people go to space for long periods, because there is no gravity/weight, their bones can become very weak which means they need lots of physiotherapy and special training to recover and strengthen their bones and joints again.

I can answer half of your question.Difference between Gym and Swimming:Gym: you need to work on each and every body part separately to get a good body (ex: upper body, shoulders, arms, abs, legs, tummy etc). Lets say it takes 1–2 weeks to cover every part of body.Swimming: Swimming will work on each and every part of the body simultaneously. Which means you use all parts of body at once to swim. to move forward, you have to use your upper body (hands chest etc) tummy to float. lower body (legs) to move forward and navigate.Advantages in swimming:It will teach you breathing exercises. how you can manage your breathe if you are short of it.It will increase core strength tremendously.Since you said you have been working out for a long time, I don’t think it will shed kilos from your body as you are already in good shape and it will take a lot of time for you to get tired.The most advantage of swimming : it saved my life and my friend’s life. We were at south Miami beach and a rip current hit us. My friend doesn’t know swimming, I realized that we are struck in rip current is right before I was drowning. The reason why I have breathing exercise at the top is because of this reason. I was completely drowned in water and it is taking me back into ocean. I was short of breathe. Suddenly I had something touching my legs (ground) I used it to push myself up. I only had less than half second time to breathe. I took all the oxygen required and went inside water, started pushing my friend towards the shore. Eventually we slowly moved to shore and are out of water right away.So technically, what ever you do for 1–2 weeks at gym, the whole work out can be done in swimming in close to 2–3 days.To answer your question: Swimming is very helpful and if you have protein diet, it will for sure increase your core strength and help you have a better toned body.I never tried to do the later part of your question (help me shred without necessarily losing a lot of gains?).So I do not want to answer that in an imaginary way.Hope this helps.
