Help Me Edit And Finish This Speech

"if i could" speech topic help?

Are you familiar with the Cher song "If I Could Turn Back Time" ? You could do your speech with that title and talk about all the things you would do if you could go back in time to different times in your life or even different eras. You could make it funny throughout either way. Then, for a funny twist at the end, you could summarize your speech by saying something like, "So, If I could turn back time, I would find a way to straighten Cher's nose and maybe that would help her sing better (or something like that).

Proposal speech... I'm too long-winded, I think.?

... Gentlemen, what did you say when you proposed to your wife?
... Ladies, what was said to you when you were proposed to?

How long of a 'speech' did you give/get? I feel like I'm babbling for too long... did you get a short-but-sweet one (e.g., "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you... will you marry me?") or a bit of a romantic tale that went with it? Do let me know, if you please. I'm planning on proposing this weekend...!!! My 'speech' is longer than a few sentenes but well under 5 minutes. What's the optimal amount of time before one literally asks the question??

Thanks for your help!

I want to write a two minute speech. How many characters do I need?

Hi there! I am a professional speaker and speech coach and work with many speakers and this does vary depending upon a person's rate of speech. The average is around 125 words per minute and so you could try working on around 250 words for your two minute speech to be on the safe side. Speech rates vary from 100 to 200 wpm (e.g. an auctioneer). A speaker presenting a speech with powerpoint or audiovisuals must slow down to around 100-120 wpm and if you're presenting a motivational piece you could speak up to as much as 160 wpm. As a rule of thumb speak slower if you want your audience to relax and faster when you want to increase the energy.  If you're a beginner, I'd recommend that you type your speech in 12 font Times New Roman and it should not exceed one and a half pages.  Once you've written your short speech, read at a relaxed and leisurely pace making sure that you take time to pause. Remember that when you're in front of an audience, they may laugh or applaud and allow for this. When you've written your speech, read it aloud, record and check your time. Trim or add to your speech accordingly. Rather be under time than over time. The best speakers always keep within their time limits. never speak over the time allotment. You won't be asked back. lol Good luck!ChantiCaptivating Speakers Program, Captivating Kids

When I speak English, I always translate it from Hindi. How do I change it?

Once my Uncle had sent a book for publishing to a reputed publishing house - I think Penguin or some other hotshot. They replied saying, "Mr. Tare, we loved everything about your book, but we can't publish it because it seems to be translated from Marathi".I was dumbstruck when I heard this. But then my Uncle said, "I was happy. I am proud that there is some Marathi touch in my English. Language is not the prerogative of its original speakers alone. It is dynamic and constantly evolves. There are many, many phrases and proverbs which have been incorporated from other languages in English. And if language doesn't evolve like this, it is sure to die some day".That was a refreshing perspective! After that little piece of sermonisation, I would suggest not to worry too much about it. Initially it is okay to translate. Start reading books and conversing in English. That fluency would come. Use Google to find words in English for Hindi words.I hope it helps. It is helpful na? :P

Does reading improve your speech and make you sound more educated?

I'm 17. I came to the U.S two years ago from the Middle East so I spoke Arabic and still speak it at home.
I learned English really fast, grammar is in my opinion the easiest thing to learn. However, I have an accent, even though I can imitate American accent easily people tell me my accent is there, that's not my main concern. The problem is I feel like I'm way behind and feel like I need to learn new expressive vocab to engage in society faster and to gain fluency in English more than people in my age group do. I've been thinking about this for a long time and still haven't made any progress because I procrastinate. I think it's time now to leave video games and playing around and move up to a new stage or a higher level. I just want every thing that comes across my mind to be expressed into words that describe my thoughts and even more because if I can't express my self or I can't talk about what I want how am I going to improve my life?
So yeah I wish reading can do that for me.

Do you think reading can provide that? Do you have any suggestion on how to find a solution to my case?

Appreciate your help

How can I successfully finish a masters degree without fully speaking the teaching language?

I think the only answer is that you need to work very hard. However, I would suggest a few things to anyone for whom English is not their first language (or who may be studying in a country that is outside their own).First, find some friends. Talk to them and find a way for them to help you. Set up a study group and work with them. This might help you get some of the concepts.Second, get into the English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and study there, too. Again, if you’re in another country, study that language, too.Third, study like you don’t have anything else to do. You will obviously need more time, so start any projects early, and get help early. Ask questions and work hard to understand the answers. That is my short advice. There are probably other things to do, too. See your professor and academic advisor for other options in getting help, too.
