Help Me For An Audition

How do I prepare for an audition?

First of all that’s pretty good that you got that far. Normally to reach a “test shoot” most folks have had to gone through at least a first and second Directors call back. But you say or sound like this is your first time even going in front of an audition “board”? So if this is so, then that’s great too. Just relax and IF they give you a script, it most likely will be just a section of just you and maybe another actor reading together or not, but they just want to see how you “look” and “sound” on camera. And if there is another actor then they are looking for chemistry between the two of you. Just remember one thing, be yourself and show confidence. Also be aware of your body placement and the camera….make sure that you don’t turn your back and or side to it. I just sat through a whole day of doing auditions (48) and the ones that did very well were the one’s who understood body placement and just had fun. I love doing them myself cause I just go in and have fun and know that I’m going to nail them because you have to have that confidence. Hope some of this helped, and good luck and have FUN!

How do you cut music for an audition?

When making the cut, look for the following:The 32 bars have to make musical sense. That is, whatever it is you sing should sound as complete as possible.Find the part of the song that shows off the best part of your vocal capabilities: your range (showing the highest and lowest notes in the song), your tone, ability to sing rapid passages, ability to show emotion/interpretive abilities, etc. This may mean your cut will start somewhere other than the beginning of the song. That’s okay as long as the cut meets the requirement in the first bullet point.Do not include parts of the song that you are not confident you can sing well. If there is a high note that you have problems with for example, don’t sing it. The audition will be stressful enough without having to worry about whether or not you’ll be able to sing it or not. Sing only the portion of the song you can do well. For an intro, try not to use more than one or two bars for that. Include just the bare minimum you’ll need in order to get enough of a cue-one bar of intro ( usually four beats for musical theater) should be plenty for preparation.32 bars for most musical theater songs is more than enough music to be able to meet the above. If you are having difficulty finding a section in the song you wish to use, then find another song. There are also books where the cuts are done for you—look through those as well.

Need Help a song for an upcoming audition?

I have been asking a lot of questions about my upcoming audition and I have another one. I am going to be auditioning for the musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have decided to do the song "Alone in the Universe" from Seussical the Musical. I sang the part of Jojo for a small production that did songs from Broadway. (My first stage performance where I was singing.) I am going to be singing the second half where Jojo starts to sing for the first time in the song. My teacher showed me where to start, but she really didn't give great directions on what to do after that part in the song where Jojo sings. I am a girl singing this part and because I have such great range (I mostly sing Soprano and second soprano but this is my first singing audition and I have only been singing for awhile) I can play this boy part, but I need to know have any other GIRLS (Guys can answer too but I really need to know if any girls have done this) used this song for an audition and started in the middle of the song at that part? And if so did you have to sing the Horton part along with Jojo's? OR did you just do Jojo's part? I know Jojo's part the best so I am hoping I just have to do that part. The place where I am auditioning is very unspecific about how long the song should be it just says have a song prepared in your key. I can't go back to my teacher and ask her because of some unpleasant things that happened during the performance. So please someone help me I am really nervous. I really want to get into this audition, and I don't want to look like a fool because this is my first time auditioning outside of my school. Please help!

What can I do to help me at the auditions? I'm auditioning for my school's selective acapella group with the alto part for The Star-Spangled Banner.

A2A.Practice until you feel confident in your performance! Then when the time comes, take a bunch of deep breaths, remind yourself that you’ve worked hard to prepare and are more than ready, and enjoy yourself. If you can go out there and have fun, the audience will too.Good luck!

How can I look older for an audition???

I have an audition coming up for a part in a play that I really, really love. I think I can play it, but I may look too young. The part is for someone in their 20's and I'm 19 but look like I'm 15. Is there any way I can make myself look older (with makeup i guess) to help me land the part-- or at least be taken seriously?

If i submitted a self tape for an audition and it has kind of a lot of views does that mean they’re considering me?

I submitted a self tape for an audition through backstage. the casting director requested it. I uploaded the videos on Vimeo and sent in my links. I submitted the videos on Thursday. My monologue self tape has 16 views. Does this mean they’re considering me? I haven’t heard anything. I’d imagine they are closed on weekends but i’m just freaking out because I really feel like i nailed that self tape. I also am very interested in the role I auditioned for. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, thanks for the A2A!“Any type of resume should contain accurate, relevant and precise details about the person”This piece of paper represents you and your skills. So, the importance of a good resume cannot be fathomed. You will have to research through all the required skills and talents for that certain audition. You should be very good at them since you’d competing with other applicants too. That being said, first, you’d have to list down the set of skills you possess. This list should be not be fake or wrong. Any recruiter or judge would not accept you if your resume has something wrong about you. You wouldn’t want that, would you?“The secret to writing the best resume is to never fake it”Now, you will have to write down all the trainings, theatres, and achievements in other categories depending on the type of audition. This again should be true, so don’t add something you haven’t done or achieved.
