Help Me Identify A Movie About Anorexia

How do you find a movie title if you only remember details of the plot?

This is bound to be tricky in that there are far more plots than movies ;-)Others have suggested searching IMDB with cast or character names (if you can remember them) or plot keywords but I would suggest that other great resource - friends. If you can remember someone you knew around the time you saw that movie - even if you didn't see it with them - ask them. "Remember when we working on the Jones project and there was that film about the guy who turned out to be a CIA triple agent but we only found out after his ID was found in the alligators stomach? What was that called?" Human memeory search functions aren't as precise as databases but they can cope with very ropy data!

Can you help me identify the movie from the details?

That’s not from movie. It’s from an online game “Overwatch”. You can find similar videos here PlayOverwatch

As a teacher, can I show "The Distinguished Gentleman" in class?

I know it's an often-overlooked Eddie Murphy vehicle, but hear me out:

I happened to just catch this movie on the fly today and really enjoyed it. While a comedy, it also does a good job of explaining interest group politics as well as portraying the power of name recognition when it comes to informal qualifications to become a representative.

I teach Government to high school seniors, and in about a week we will have two and a half days to kill. It's the week of Thanksgiving - half of my students are gone, and those that are there are all over the place. I would have them watch something perhaps more serious - i.e. "Charlie Wilson's War" or "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," but I know my kids and they do not have the attention spans for that sort of movie.

So, what are your thoughts? Would this be completely inappropriate? Could this work as a reinforcement tool to the unit on the legislative branch that we just covered? Any alternatives?

What are common misconceptions about eating disorders?

That they are caused by the Victoria Secret fashion show, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, Hollywood, the fashio-beauty-industrial complex, or the media.Certainly, fashion models and others who are asked to maintain low body weight as a condition of employment may develop disordered eating. Just like attorneys and software entrepreneurs may become workaholics after being compelled to put in long hours. But regular people, like me, don’t develop eating disorders because they stared at a photo of Victoria Beckham too long. They stare at Victoria Beckham because of an inner compulsion, which can have elements of anxiety, depression or OCD, that manifests itself in food restriction.I developed anorexic habits in close to a cultural vacuum. When I was 11, I’d never read a fashion magazine, nor had I seen a movie that wasn’t a kid flick. We only had a few TV stations, not that we ever got to watch TV much as our parents locked it in their room, only bringing it out to watch the nightly news or our allotted hour of TV per week.I learned about dieting though a book purchased at a thrift store, and I thought I’d try it. I tried a lot of things when I was a kid, and didn’t stick with the uncomfortable ones. But it took hold regardless, and after awhile I did seek out sources of “thinspiration” in traditional beauty ideals. But I came looking for those things, they didn’t look for me.I hate it when people automatically assume we’re such slaves to culture.

What would be the independent and dependent variables for discussing Mass media influence on youth?

The media makes billions of dollars with the advertising they sell and that we are exposed to. We buy what we are told to be good, after seeing thousands of advertisings we make our buying decisions based on what we saw on Tv, newspapers or magazines to be a product we can trust and also based on what everyone else that we know is buying and their decision are also base don the media.

These are the effects of mass media in teenagers, they buy what they see on Tv, what their favorite celebrity advertise and what is acceptable by society based on the fashion that the media has imposed them.

There are some positive and negative influences in young people.

Here is a positive influence example, if there is a sport that is getting a lot of attention by the media and gains popularity among your friends and society, you will more likely want to practice the sport and be cool with all your friends. The result is that you will have fun with your friends and be more healthy because of the exercise your are doing.

However a negative influence in teenagers is the use of cigars by celebrity movie stars, the constant exposure of sex images, the excessive images of violence and exposure to thousands of junk food ads.

Young people are in a stage of life where they want to be accepted by their peers, they want to be loved and be successful. The media creates the ideal image of a beautiful men and women and tells you what are the characteristics of a successful person, you can see it in movies and tv. Its a subliminal way to tell you that if you are not like them you are not cool yet so its time to buy the stuff they buy and look like they look.

Another negative influence in teenagers that has grown over the last years are anorexia and obesity. There are millions of adolescents fighting obesity, but at the same time they are exposed to thousands of advertisements of junk food, while the ideas image of a successful person is told to be thin and wealthy.

Also more women are obsessive with losing weight even when they are not obese, there are many thin women that want to look like the super models and thin celebrities so they engage in eating disorders which leads to severe health issues and even death.
