Which country should I go for a cultural exchange program?

Just answered that same question for another student! It’s a common question.Only you can answer this question. It's like comparing apples and oranges. They can both taste good, but whether you like one or the other better is an individual taste. The best choice for you for an exchange depends on your personal circumstances, your academic situation, your motivations and goals, and perhaps your age.If you’re a college student, you will want to look at the menu of options offered by your university in addition to your academic field and personal goals and interests. Are you hoping to study a particular subject area? Are you hoping to become more fluent in a particular language? The answers to these questions might direct you to one country or another. If you are a high school student, language capability may play a significant role. The host country may have rules governing high school international students, and schools in the country may have their own rules for student admission. There may be visa requirements that could affect a student’s country choice.Wherever you end up, you can throw yourself into the experience and learn new things from taking classes from a different cultural point of view, and teach the people you meet something about your own country and culture. It’s a win-win.

What filipino dance can i perform solo at our school program?

another dance that closely resembles "Pandango sa Ilaw" is "Binasuan" which is a bit harder.

i think "Binasuan" would be perfect for you because, as you can see on the video, it looks better than "Pandanggo sa Ilaw" when danced alone.

another dance than can be danced solo is the Igorot dance, "Ragragsakan". you can either use "banga" (clay pot) or woven basket.

RAGRAGSAKAN

the harder version of this is "Banga"

BANGA(Igorot dance)

using multiple stacked-up clay pots or uber big clay pots

you can find many variations on the choreography but they are basically just the same. which ever you choose, please do the balancing act and give justice to the dance. it's your cultural pride and it deserves nothing less. besides, its hard to please the audience when dancing solo so you should pull some tricks to please them.

Cross-cultural question???

I would guess that your school has many different cultures represented. A culture can count as either one's race (white, black, hispanic, asian, etc), one's religion (Christian, hindu, jewish, etc), or one's social affiliations (hetero- vs homo- sexual, or even the old jocks/geeks/bandies/goth clique thing).

They are asking you to state your personal tolerance level for people who are different from you. Like, how do you get along with people from other races? Countries? How patient are you with people who don't speak English well or at all? Do you freak out on people with different religious or sexual orientation from you? A high tolerance level for other people would be very important for positions in student leadership, and an unbiased approach, or at least the ability to simulate a lack of bias (or prejudice) would be important in a newspaper reporter for example.

Hope this helps!

Language Immersion programs at elementary shcool - are they as good as they say?

My wife was a military child. She grew up primarily in Japan and was involved in a total immersion Japanese program. From her standpoint it was great. We've talked at great length about this many times, mostly because I wish I could have done an immersion program.

To me, there would be primarily pros to the idea. First, most immersion programs come with a cultural aspect, that is, you learn specific items about the culture of the people whose language and customs you learn in conjunction with your own. This promotes understanding and tolerance of others.

Next, students can learn a foreign language much easier at a younger age, which can only be a good thing. Also, it is proven that once you learn one additional language to your own, it is much easier to learn more. This can help with careers in the future and create a more rounded individual.

I apologize for any inherent bias I may have, but I would highly recommend one of these programs, especially the Spanish one. If I remember correctly it is projected that by 2012 the hispanic population will by itself eclipse the caucasian population, so it would be a good thing to learn their language and customs for better future understanding and relations.
Hope that helps, have a good day!
