Help Me With This Algebra Problem

Can you help me with this algebra problem?

1) 2x² + 16x - 40 = 0

2 (x² + 8x - 20) = 0

x² + 8x - 20 = 0/2

x² + 8x - 20 = 0

x² + 10x - 2x - 20 = 0

x (x + 10) -2 (x + 10) = 0

(x + 10) (x - 2) = 0

x = -10 OR x = 2 ANSWER.

2) 27x² - 75 = 0

3 (9x² - 25) = 0

((3x)² - (5)²) = 0 / 3

(3x - 5) (3x + 5) = 0

x = 5/3 OR x = -5/3 ANSWER.

Help me with a algebra problem?

Can anyone help me with this algebra problem?

The problem is...
"If a rooster is worth 5 coins, a hen 3 coins, and 3 chicks together 1 coin, how many roosters, hens, and chicks, totaling 100, can be bought for 100 coins?"

I have these equations so far:
5r+3h+c/3=100
r+h+c=100
but... now what?? Substitution?
I need to find 2 solutions, but what do i do next?

Can anyone help me with this algebra problem?

Here you have 3 variables and only two equations.

If you let P = the number of pennies, N = the number of nickles, and D = the number of dimes, then you know that

N = D + P (half the coins are nickles)

And also that the value of the coins is:

.01 P + .05 N + .10 D = 1.65 or multiplying through by 100,

P + 5N + 10D = 165

There are your two equations with three variables.

If you substitute te first into the second you get the relationship

P + 5(P+D) + 10D = 165 or 6P + 15D = 165 and solving for D you have:

D = 11 - (2P/5)

I did this so you can make a chart of possible arrangements.

Now since the value ends in 5, there has to be a number of pennies that is a multiple of 5, so you can fill in the chart below using the formulas above. the "D=" formula and the "N=D+P" The first one is thus.

P D N
0 11 11 and 1(0) + 10(11) + 5(11) = 165 it works

5

10

15

20

Fill in the other lines and see how many of each you get and what the value is. you may be surprised by the answers you come up with. With this explaination and by calculating it out, you may figure out enough to write up your answer.

Good luck with it.

Can anyone help me with this Algebra problem?

She must earn at least $40,000 and the fix salary is $24,000 therefore we must subtract the two to be able to get the amount Mrs. Lucas needs to earn from commission.

$40,000 minus $24,000 = $ 16,000 is what she needs to earn from commission

Therefore, the inequality will be

$30,500 times x times 1.5% is greater than or equal to $16,000, where x is the number of cars sold by Mrs. Lucas.

Solving the inequality will give you 34.97268 which means that, at the very minimum, she must sell 35 cars a year to earn at least $40,000 annually.

Another way of solving this is to get the commission Mrs. Lucas will receive for every car she sells by multiplying the average price of the car to her commission rate

$30,500 X 1.5% = $457.50

Then the inequality will be

$457.50 times x is greater than or equal to $16,000
where x is the number of cars sold by Mrs. Lucas

How do you solve this algebra problem?

The problem is not giving enough information. So far, there are a few good attempts at solving it:In my opinion, Keano Rich  has gotten closest to the correct answer. However, in that answer the assumption is made that everyone drank beer, wine or soft drinks, and no one had, say, a beer followed by a soft drink. Also, no one had more than 1 drink. Not a very exciting party. People must have gotten pretty thirsty.User and User have another attempt, but assume all the people at the party drank wine, beer and soft drinks (hard to imagine, everyone mixing beer and wine, and there being no designated drivers). This might have been the intended solution, but in that case the problem is badly phrased and should specify this.Since we are not told anything specific about whether everyone stuck to 1 drink or whether they mixed different types of drinks, the answer could be anywhere from 2 people (drinking 65 bottles of beer between them) up to any number, where lots of people did not drink anything at all. We need more information.

Can someone help with this word problem (algebra)?

Distance is equal to Speed times Time.The distance is given, 355.The time is given, 2.5 hours.Thus your equation will be 355 = 2.5 ( speed )The speed is a touch harder.  The cars are moving away from each other, so the speed they are moving apart is the sum of their speed.Your equation becomes 355 = 2.5 ( Car1_Speed  + Car2_Speed )The problem says the slower car's speed is x.The problem says the faster car is 6 mph faster than the slower car's speed.Thus the faster car's speed is x + 6.Your equation is now355 = 2.5 [ (x) + (x+6) ]Simplified, this yields your answer.You see these type of problems very frequently; it's worth remembering the basic equation of (Distance) = (Speed)(Time).
