Help My Laptop Lags Like Hell

My Laptop has Intervals of Lag?

I turn off file indexing. It's supposed to be fixed, but it still takes alot of cycles. Look for antivirus checking or other process that start up when you're "idle". This includes applications phoning home for updates.

My dell came with alot of gee whiz utilities and apps that took up alot of cycles. Look at the processes that are running. Uninstall or don't autostart the ones you don't need.

Turn off power saving in both the bios and in Windows.

Any SMART errors from the drive?

My laptop lags when it plays specific games.?

I think that there may be an anti virus program or something that is taking some performance power from your CPU while you are gaming. Maybe switch it to silent mode or just entirely off and check again?

Why GTA IV lag on my laptop?

A lot of possibilities why it's lagging. One is that your ram is 4gb which isn't usually used for gaming try 6-12gb ram update it if it has slots for it. Another, background processes might be slowing it down and using memory. The graphic settings are too high and causing it to lag. Viruses and Malware. Get Malwarebytes or Comodo don't get both since that would make you more vulnerable to viruses. Scan your computer for rats, keyloggers, malware, trojans, backdoors etc... All these can slow you down. Also do some disk clean ups for your computer

My laptop has high specs but it still lags in every game. How do I fix this?

Thanks for A2A.The truth is that you can't expect great performance on a budget laptop in comparison with performances of desktops available out there. However, trying these tweaks, you can maximize your gaming performance:Always keep your drivers up-to-date. In this case, go to Nvidia's official page to download the latest driver. Never use third party drivers. In Windows control panal, change power mode from balanced to high performance mode both in battery & plugged in mode. Use this same methodology in Nvidia control panal. While gaming, avoid using minimized or hidden applications running. Use task manager to kill those unwanted apps. Now let me unveil the most effective tick to increase FPS in gaming. Always disable anti-alising (MSAA, TXAA, FXAA, SSAA etc.), vertical synchronization, ambient occlusion (SSAO, HBAO etc.) and lower the anisotropic filtering to 2x or 4x or just disable it. Sometimes, you can lower the resolution to get huge FPS boost. Believe me this trick gonna make your laptop run every game till this date in playable frames. You may use game boosters like Razer Cortex etc. in order to get 2% to 5% increase in performance.

Why does my laptop lag on games when plugged in?

Check your power options. You might have goofed and set the unplugged settings to 'High Performance' while setting the plugged in settings to 'Power Saver'.

EDIT: Right click the battery icon in the bottom right and click Power Options

Why can't my laptop run any games? They always lag tremendously and have the worst framerate. My specs are GPU: Nvidia GTX 960M, CPU: Intel Core I7–6700 HQ / 2.60 GHZ, RAM: 16 GB, OS: Windows 10 64bit, and SSD Storage.

Your laptop specs are pretty good for running almost any modern game with medium settings. Please mention the video games you are trying to play on your laptop. As mentioned earlier by Toby Roundhill, check if your laptop is plugged in or not. I have a laptop with Nvidia GTX 960M GPU and rest of the specs are similar to yours. If I don’t plugin my laptop while playing games like GTA 5, COD or even TF2, FPS drops significantly. Apart from plugging your laptop, optimize the video game settings using Nvidia GEFORCE Experience application. In the above image, you can see two games. On the left side, you see GTA 5. It has a green tick mark which means the settings are optimized for this game. While on the right side, you a see a minus sign for TF2 which means the settings are not optimized.Click on the thumbnail and then you will see something like in the below mentioned image. You can see Optimize button on the right side. You can optimize the settings for both “Plugged In” and “On Battery” states. In my case, it improved the FPS significantly and removed the lag. Also, make sure your GPU drivers are always up to date.Hope it helps you and you enjoy gaming on your machine!
