Help Need Info About Southall The City In West London.

How do you get to Southall, England by train?

It depends on your starting point. Suggest you use Google maps. Once you are in the UK you can get accurate train times from National Rail Enquiries

Where are the best, moderately price independent (not chains) places to have dinner in central london?

Mandalay also gets a thumbs up from me. Was a favourite haunt for many years when I lived 'down the road'. Friendly service, home cooked Burmese food at bargain prices. Definitely worth a sojourn if you are in the area but booking ahead can save disappointment as there aren't many tables and one large group can effectively mean the whole place is booked out.Just South of Mandalay and perched on the corner of Crawford Place and Edgware road is the Persian restaurant Patogh, another down to Earth small establishment famed for it's grilled meat kebabs on huge homemade grilled flatbreads. Topped with a fresh salad and some pickled vegetables it makes for a great lunch or dinner. Another bonus is you can bring your own booze with I believe (from memory) no surcharge.I also can vouch for Pitt, Cue and Co. (mentioned by Angela above) for the BBQ which is still a cuisine that is quite under-represented in London. The slow cooked smoked ribs were pretty awesome on my last visit. If you want to try 'real' Indian food the you need to head East or West. Heading East to Whitechapel either the 'Lahore Kebab House' (Umberston St) or 'New Tayyabs' you can try hearty Punjabi (North Indian) fayre. Great smoky tandoori grills with spicy dahls and other curries. Both feature BYO policies to keep your budget under control. If you want to head the other direction then head to West London and Southall, home to another large community of Asians. There you can try the 'Brilliant restaurant' (one case where the food actually matches the very 'modest' name) This is Indian food, Punjabi style via Kenya reflecting the migratory route of this group of Asians. To sum up London is a great city for foodies and there is great, varied, exciting and unique food for all budgets. You just need to do your homework before you go as some of the best places require planning and time to get to.

What is the best place for an Indian to live in London?

I would recommend in London - Harrow and Brent Borough as well as Borough of Ealing. these would include places like Harrow, Harrow on the Hill, Kenton, Sudbury, Wembley, Ealing, Acton. Stonebridge Park, Southall etc.most of these areas are connected by Underground ( District, Central, Bakerloo, Piccadilly or Metropolitan Lines) so commute is not a problem. checkout commutefrom.com: Where to buy a house on London's commuter routes to get a good idea of travel time and options. This website also gives you links to other information on the location like rentals, schools, crime rates, demographics etcThe reason I recommend these areas is easy access to Indian groceries, fruits and Vegetables, and wide choice of Indian restaurants as well as religious and Cultural institutions . Tesco and other supermarkets in these areas have a large Indian and Asian food sections. If you have a car, you can pretty much stay anywhere and drive once a week to do shopping. Enjoy your stay in London.

What is the worst area of London?

Every single borough has terrible districts/areas except the City of London and arguably Westminster. Here’s a list of shit areas with high proportion of poor residents, high crime, high levels of social housing and/or a combination of all three:DeptfordWoolwichPlaistowLatimer RoadHounslowDagenham (avoid like the plague)IlfordStonebridgeNeasden (particularly around St Raphael’s Estate)Harlesden (avoid like the plague)South KilburnSouth ActonSouthallNortholtWest Ealing (around the Uxbridge Road, very dangerous at night)Brixton HillStockwell (avoid like the plague)Kennington (around Cotton Gardens and towards Oval)Canning TownSilvertown (big housing project)ShadwellStepney Green (big housing project)Upper Clapton (AKA murder mile)Bow (where ‘grime’ originated from, a UK urban music genre)MarylandForest GateTottenhamEdmontonPonders EndPoplarThamesmeadNew CrossLewishamCatfordThere are so many more. Depends on your criteria. If you mean the worst in terms of literacy rates and proportion of white British residents then its Southall, but for gang crime it would be Harlesden, Brixton Hill or Tottenham probably…ugliest place has to be Stepney Green or South Acton.
