Need info about half leasing my horse to someone?

i live in new jersey and the going rate around here is definitely higher than the person below me said, more like 500-1000 dollars per month. at my barn, a half lease includes 4 lessons a month and 2 free rides per week& we charge about 550. the pros to leasing your horse is that they stay in a program and you don't have to ride them all the time but the cons are, especially if it's a good quality horse, if you have a person on the horse that doesn't really know what they're doing, they can reverse some training with the horse, or cause the horse to develop bad habits.

How to convince your parents to half lease a horse?

I currently half lease a horse but the cost is $340. So still pretty over priced. My parents are willing to pay that for me because they understand how much it means to me (i've had some bad coaching and lease experience). It's true you can probably find a cheaper one. My friend pays 200 a month and can ride whenever she wants, although she pays extra for lessons. I get the same amount of rides as you would. I guess my parents let me lease for that price tho because it's definitely cheaper than owning and I really love the horse I lease. I wish money wasn't an issue for any of us but horses aren't cheap. Consider your parents position. Look for a horse that suits you and you really like. You want to enjoy riding the horse.

What does it mean to half lease a horse?

To lease means that you are paying for all the bills, but the owner still owns the horse. you take care of the horse/ride the horse, but if the owner wants, they techincally have the right to visit their horse if they give you notice. To half lease means that you are leasing the horse but with another person. you both get to split the week on the amount of days you get to see the horse and you both get to split the bills. if you do not have enough money to own a horse, this is good because it will let you see what it's like to own a horse. also, it will take some of the pressure off of you on taking care of the horse. when you sign the lease form, you and the other person will work out days so that you can both ride/visit the horse a certain amount of days a week (usually half and half). this is a good thing because you get to see if you really have the ability of owning a horse (it's alot of work). the downside of it is that the owner can take the horse back anytime (with notice usually except in my case when i half leased they took the horse back literally with like half a day's notice.... i was devistated). also, you are not the only one who works with the horse. if you are trying to train the horse out of a bad habit, the other person could not do it (in which happened to me... the girl let the horse get away with everything and i had to retrain him everytime).

i half leased a horse when i switched barns and i fell in love with the horse. i didn't know that he was probably going to go back to his owners. the people at the barn claimed they told us, but they never did so we were kind of mad. but yeah, it was a really good experience for me besides that because i got to learn to trust the horse and not just ride random horses all the time. now, i own a pony because of what happened, but if you never owned a pony before, id suggest either to half-lease or lease.

How many years should I be riding before I get a horse?

If you are Mongol you might receive a horse on your birthday. My niece received a horse when she was born, from her maternal grandfather. She gets a horse on special occasions. Now she is around 14 years old and has at least 20 horses. Her grandfather has around 100 horses, not much by Mongolian standards. The grandfather makes hints to my brother that it is time to make a separate herd, my brother just smiles. He doesn't do it because he lives in the city. To separate, he needs to have a separate herder, separate horse branding etc. A good person who would look after his horses and take care of them, which is not easy to arrange if you are in the city.Unfortunately my father-in-law doesn't have any horses and I don’t own any, but my kids learn to ride too. In the pic above, my son is learning to sit on a saddle. He was around 1 at the time…

What does it mean to "lease" a horse?

Many riders (and parents) do not want the responsibility of owning a horse and they instead opt for a lease. A horse lease is different from a car lease in a number of ways. Horses can be leased both from individuals and stables. Individual owners may lease a horse to share the expense of board or vet bills, or they may lease a horse becuase they no longer have the time it takes to ride regularly. Stables may lease lesson horses or other horses as an additional way to earn revenue.

Many stables offer both a half horse lease or a full lease option. With a half lease your riding availability may be reduced. With a full lease you get full riding privileges of your leased horse.

A free lease is when you are simply sharing the costs of board and possibly the farrier and vet. There is no "additional" fee for using the horse, you are merely sharing the horses bills with the owner.

Most barns, take the position that any leasing of boarders' horses is between the boarder and lessee. It will not affect their care of the horse, and they have no interest in collecting money from both parties. That is somehting that needs to be worked out be the lessee and the leaser.

A lease is also a good way to introduce a child or family to responsibility without taking on horse ownership. Like it or not horses require a lot of attention, and care. Leasing a horse shows a child what the commitment will be and will help make the decision as to whether horse ownership is something they want.

How much does a half lease cost?

I am 14 and I have been riding for a while but my mom is scared of horses so I cant get one, but I ride every Wednesday and Saturday and there are lots of events we do at the stables. My riding instructor buys horses from her good friends ONLY when they NEED a home. She currently has around 11 horses, 9 of which are "schooling horses"(some half leased) and a few that are boarded there. My instructor was considering getting another arabian who needs a home now, but she can't get it unless one of her students agrees to a half lease. I feel like I should say yes, but I know I don't have to. I love horses and my mom agrees as long as she doesn't have to touch him :D I was thinking about going out to meet him before I sorta own him :/ lol. I wanted to know what exactly a half lease would so called "get me" I would be half leasing him with my riding instructor. She has another student half leasing a horse and the student and other people ride him, so would I get priority to ride him when Im there? And what would I have to pay for? vet?tack?food?horse? Im so unsure. So please answer in detail! <3 thank you so much.
