History help!?! World War 2..?

americans had to sacrifice a lot of things for the war effort to include the most notable, alluminum, copper, and rubber. the margarine you eat today is because real butter was needed for the war, so americans adapted and created margarine. the attack on pearl harbor is what brought america into the war. with men being shipped overseas, women had to step up and fill the workplaces. there was a constant threat of communism in the united states and american nazi'ism.

I have a 2 questions from history about World War 1, please help?

The government has the power to suppress dissent. Dictatorships do it as a matter of course. Citizens in a democratic republic expect to have the right to object to government policies they disagree with. Awareness of that right, and the lesson of the Nuremberg war crimes trials that citizens have a duty to oppose criminal government policies, are what led LBJ to stand down in 1968. It's possible that allowing expressions of public outrage about entering WWI might have short circuited that adventure. We'll never know. Now we are faced with a prospective new head of the CIA who was only following orders at Abu Ghraib when she was a deputy chief. The confirmation hearings should be interesting because that rationale is out of favor, or should be.

World War II History question, please help?

The Marshall Plan was the program of massive economic aid given by the United States to favoured countries in Western Europe for the rebuilding of capitalism. Only those countries which were prepared to line up with the U.S. against the Soviet Union would receive aid. In conjunction with the monetary arrangements set up at Bretton Woods in 1944, Marshall Aid was used systematically to pressure governments and voters in countries like Britain, France and Italy into rejecting Communism in exchange for Aid, while Keynesian economic policies were used to provide welfare and jobs for workers.

Under the Marshall Plan, using the institutions set up at Bretton Woods, the U.S. provided ‘friendly’ governments in Europe with $17 billion in investment between 1948 and 1952 and succeeded in stimulating the reconstruction of capitalism, while bringing them heavily into U.S. debt. The Soviet Union counteracted by creating the COMECON. The countries of Eastern Europe, even more war-devastated than Western Europe, were to get none of this aid, all trade between the two halves of Europe ceased and as a result, these countries remained economically backward for many decades afterwards.

In July 1947, a Conference was convened in Paris, and all European countries were invited to send a representative to discuss the Plan and pick up their share. All the Eastern European countries were invited to send a representative, but as Jan Masaryk, the Czech Foreign Minister put it:

“the Americans will be very happy to bribe both us and the Poles into loosening our bonds with the Russians. ... The offer of credits to us is quite genuine; I am less sure about the Romanians and the Yugoslavs. But as for the credits for Russia, that is the biggest piece of eyewash in the whole scheme. Do you see Truman and Congress forking out billions to Enemy Number One, communist Russia, from whom we all have to be saved?”

At that time 50 per cent of Polish trade was with the West, and 70 per cent in the case of Czechoslovakia. Russia was told that if they wanted to be part of the Plan, then they would be contributors, not recipients. All the Eastern bloc countries withdrew under Soviet pressure.

History, World war II, Hitler?

The steps taken were prior to 1933. He was a very predudiced child raised by a Jew-bashing Father. Then, WWI came around, and, as a Corporal, he took it personally that the Kaiser's government didn't settle the lost war more favorably in Germany's favor. Hitler had a bit of a personality problem that began with the Versailles Treaty--he felt it too harsh.
Then, after his coup attempt that wound up with jailtime, he decided to go into politics forming his own political party using the step that "any party can man the house and senate as long as the people vote them in." (Meanwhile, he was having his party "soldiers" eliminate and execute political adversaries that were against his ideals).
Once his party gained control of seats in the government, he had them vote him as Chancellor. Then, they voted to give consoldate his power(s) by accumulating different responsibities and jobs at the top. This consolodated strong powers--but not total power--to one person.
Then he decided to write up the bill for vote to end the Democratic Government, and place him as Fuhrer with the power of Absolute Power.

Now, he the power to wage war with a vehemic mentality that no other nation in Europe will threaten Germany ever again, so he built a secret army (against the Versailles Treaty), trained the soldiers, sailors and airmen in a special kind of war (blitzkreig) and attacked the European Nations (and ultimately the World) FIRST before they could attack Germany again.
Basically, he was a paranoid-pschzophrenic with delusions of grandeur so much so, that even General Rommel wanted him executed. Thought Rommel was executed for "participating" [no proof as to date], other high members of Hitler's cabinet DID attempt to assassinate him--which made him even more paraniod.
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

I hope this helps.

KU WWI Lecture SeriesI would also look at the Dole institute for politics, I've watched several of their lectures on WW1 as well as more than a few on WW2.Also, if you just search YouTube for WW1 lectures, there is a broad selection, and from several speakers, primarily Professors of History, whose lectures on WW2 I’ve become nearly addicted to.I find them better than books, because they cover a wide range of topics, but give you focus on an issue, or issues, not a biography or memoirs that cover the whole war, but they zero in.I’ve also watched my fair share of documentaries, some of the good ones 2 or 3 times, and I’d be happy to reccomend some, but they require a fair bit of commitment of time.In the meantime, here is a screenshot of just one page of a you tube search with 45 lectures.I hope you enjoy your studies as much as I have over the years, and I continue to learn, now that I’ve discovered all these lectures that I can relate back to my broader knowledge via documentaries, adding little nuances that help me draw better conclusions.

History homework help on world war 2?

POEM

Why the world went to war,
After Henry Ford made cars,
Nobody knew planet Mars,
'Cos it's beyond the stars.

Germany invaded Holland,
Spilling buckets of goat milk,
Adolf Hitler's mustache,
Got stuck in a Holland goat-shaving machine!

Britain was in rage,
America didn't pay its wage,
'Cos it made the Titanic sank,
Thats when America played a prank

Then, a genial old fart
Named, either a tree or Bush,
Became president,
And denounced Iraqis in supermarket trolleys,
And Osama bin Laden.
Dunno how to fly a plane,
crashed into a window pane,
Above New York Lane!

Saddam bin Hussein.
With pulsating veins,
Ran away in vain,
And soon
dicovered in a rabbbit hole,
full of piss and toenails.
And a stupid executioner used
his Nokia N93 with Carl Zeiss optics,
took picture
of Saddam's hanged hanging head.

So now you know,
Old farts at war,
And still at war
I dunno why?

RAP

The world went to war
in the year 1939
Germany picked a fight they had the best army they started something they couldnt fisnish
Hitler was the head of the nation

they all declared as they marched down the streets in the summer heat Hilter said
the Jews were to blame
can we never erase their pain

Please help with some history questions? 10 points promised!?

Britain's empire was finished. One of the conditions laid down by the USA for the supply of goods under lend lease was that Britain gave up most of her colonies.

At the time of the war the biggest single trading block was the British Empire and Commonwealth. As such it was a major competitor to the USA and they took advantage of the situation to decrease Britain's power as much as possible.

After the war the USA gave more help to Europe to get back on it's feet than it did to Britain. This put Britain at a disadvantage economically. Britain was the last country in Europe to have rationing which lasted until 1954.

True Or False World War 2 Questions? Please Help.?

1. The pact was signed by the Russian and German Foreign ministers on behalf of their nations - hence Nazi-Soviet pact, occasionally therefore you might see it referred to as the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. It had a secret clause allowing Russia to invade and annex part of Poland after the Germans invaded. Churchill was at the time it was signed a British backbench MP but became Prime Minister in May 1940.

2. True although Hitler promised a raft of things - that he would overturn the Versailles Treaty and stand up for Germany and the German people.
