In 1954 the English runner Roger Bannister broke the four minute barrier for the mile with a time of 3:59.4 s (3 min and 59.4 sec). In 1999 the Moroccan runner Hicham el-Guerrouj set a record of 3:43.13 s for the mile. If these two runners had run in the same race, each running the entire race at the average speed that earned him a place in the record books, el-Guerrouj would have won. By how many meters?

a)Initial angular velocity w0 = 4.92 rad/s Angular displacement theta = 13.9 rev = 13.9 * 2 pi rad = 87.29 rad Final angular velocity w = 0 Let angular acceleration = alpha w^2 = w0^2 + 2 * alpha * theta 0 = 4.92^2 + 2 * alpha * 87.29 0 = 24.2064 + 174.58 * alpha alpha = - 24.2064/174.58 = - 0.139 rad/s^2 Ans: - 0.139 rad/s^2 b) Let time = t w = w0 + alpha * t Or 0 = 4.92 - 0.139 * t Or t = 4.92/0.139 = 35.4 s

Physics refraction homework question! please help!?
A ray of light strikes the midpoint of one face of an equiangular (60° -60° -60°) glass prism (n = 1.5) at an angle of incidence of 41°. (a) Trace the path of the light ray through the glass, and find the angles of incidence and refraction at each surface. 1st surface: incidence = ° refraction = ° 2nd surface: incidence = ° refraction = ° (b) If a small fraction of light is also reflected at each surface, find the angles of reflection at the surfaces. reflection = ° (1st surface) reflection = ° (2nd surface)

Because the bending effect is infinitesimal over the distances they measure.
Physics Homework Question: How do I solve this physics problem?
You need not use any formulae.First answer is ↑with m¹gSecond is ← with zeroThird is → with MgFourth is ↑with (m¹+m²)gHow? Remember these:•Normal reaction always acts opposite to the weight component of the body and perpendicular to its testing surface. As the surfaces are flat, normal reactions are upwards.•the blocks are not moving. The block m² will have some frictional force that will oppose the pull from the smaller mass M. But as m² isn't moving at all, it excerts no friction onm¹.• cut the string and observe(think) in which direction the string goes. The tension in the string will be in that direction. And to oppose this tension, a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction acts on m². Magnitude of tension will be equal to the weight of the hanging mass over the pulley because it is a single string and tension will be same all over it.

An escalator is 18 m long. If a person stands on the escalator, it takes 50 s to ride to the top. (a) If a person walks up the moving escalator with a speed of 0.500 m/s relative to the escalator, how long does it take the person to get to the top? (b) If a person walks down the "up" escalator with the same relative speed as in part (a), how long does it take to reach the bottom?
