Help Setting Minecraft Server

Help setting up a Minecraft Server (I have most of it already, one small snag)?

Ok so here's the deal: My vanilla server is pretty much all set to go. When I access the server via localhost, everything works great. I am fairly certain that I did the port forwarding correctly. I downloaded a third party port checker, and it was able to ping my router, and it told me that port 25565 is "OPEN on this computer." However, when I try to access my server via my ipv6 (which I will be giving to someone else so they can access my server), I get an error. I have tried with ":25565" at the end and without. I will write the errors below this. I have done all I can, and I feel so close to being done, except for this one hitch. Can anyone help?

I also noticed that my third party checker gave me my external IP address. Minecraft should use my internal, right? I dunno if that makes any difference.

Error with ipv6:
java.net.SocketException: Protocol family unavailable

Error with ipv6 + :25565
Unknown host

Thank you so much!

Hosting minecraft server with ethernet cable?

I've been a Minecraft server host for two years on a One Core, 2GB RAM Windows XP Home and have built up a vast quantity of players. My players where excited to hear about it becoming HARDWIRED, which means plugging it in with an ethernet cable. You should definitely use an ethernet cable. If you need help setting up and maintaining your server, I can help.

Need help setting up Multicraft on a Dedicated Server?

So, I just got a free dedicated server from OVH for 1 month (they're doing testing with their new North American datacenter). I'm currently trying to get Multicraft working on the server. I install Debian 6 and followed the instructions on multicraft.org on how to install it on Linux(doing it through SSH with Putty). However, when I get to the part where it asks me to access the control panel, I can't seem to connect to it. IP is 198.100.145.194 and it's asking me to connect to 198.100.145.194/multicraft/install.php. I could really use some help since I want to make the most of this server while I have it (prices are $80/month after a month).

How do I make a multiplayer Minecraft server?

So here is what I think you should consider.  Running it at home versus running it in the cloud. At home:My PC uses 500W and I live in Chicago.  In Chicago a kilowatt hour is about 16 cents.  So lets do a little math.500W * 24 hours = 12 Kilowatt hours12 Kilowatt hours * $0.16 = $1.92 per day$1.92 * 365 days in a year = $700.80 per yearIn the Cloud:If you wanted a decent server that might be able to handle 10-15 maybe 20 people you can find one at about $25 per month.  Try something like Digital Ocean.  I think they even have instruction on how to setup a minecraft server. So a little math.$25 per month * 12 months in a year = $300Conclusion:$700 electricity cost or $300 cloud server bill?  Hands down, go with using a server in the cloud.  You'll get great bandwidth and you'll pay less than half in operating costs.  Plus your gaming PC isn't held hostage by your Minecraft server.I would put a step by step on how to setup your server but that depends on how and where you do it.  Again check Digital Ocean, I remember seeing them having a 'how to' for Minecraft servers and it was specific to their service.Hope that helps!Edit: Digital Ocean How To - How To Set Up a Minecraft Server on Linux

My daughter wants to set up a server for Minecraft on our PC. Is this safe?

There are, as far as I know, no known vulnerabilities in the Minecraft server that can be exploited to damage a host computer.  That being said, any software that you allow to be accessed from the Internet carries some risk.  If you are really worried, you have two options:Use virtualization software like Virtualbox or Virtual PC to create a virtual machine.  Run the minecraft server in the VM.  The VM is a "sandbox" and software inside it can not harm the PC.  You will have to use bridged networking.  You probably want to use a static IP, so you can easily set up port forwarding to the VM on your routerIf the above sounds too complex  then consider hosted Minecraft servers.  These are affordable and most support mods. Here are some hosting providers:Minecraft Server Hosting | MCProHostingMinecraft Server Hosting | GGServers | $3/GBQuality Minecraft Server Hosting

Is there a way to block chat on a Minecraft server?

If you make a Minecraft server run Spigot/Bukkit and use this plugin: Disable ChatKeep in mind if they join your Minecraft server only the people online on that server can only chat amongst themselves. However, if they are on an external server, check if they have spam protection. Many large servers have good swear word prevention. Make sure to always check if the server has swear word protection though.Disabling chat via the settings is not a very good option as many servers broadcast helpful messages that are nescessay for gameplay. You can limit them from sending chat messages by changing chat settings in multiplayer settings to commands only (Commands are essential)Some big servers have an option to disable seeing outside chat. This is via a command such as /globalchat or /togglechatI can say that Hypixel and TitanMC have pretty good spam and swear word filters as well as amazing hack prevention.Alternatively you can use a client mod to censor chat curse words out, http://www.minecraftforum.net/fo...

What are some good specs for a minecraft server?

Thanks for the A2A!So I am the head admin and co-owner of my server. The reason behind the “co-owner” is that I am not a great programmer and I know very little about computer specifications. However, I did speak to the other co-owner of my server. He’s a savvy programmer and an overall intelligent person. He actually had a few scenarios with different required specs. In the case of a LAN server with few people, you only need about 3 gb of RAM and about 200 mb of free storage for backups and saves. He suggested an Intel Core 2 Duo, as well as a solid internet connection. This is all you need for a simple LAN server.Larger servers require a bit more juice. Our server only features about 20 constant players, so we do not actually know much about larger servers. I can point you in the right direction for information, fortunately! In addition to extra google research, the Minecraft Wiki page is a solid source of information. You could also choose to rent server space from a provider. There are many choose from so you can find a reasonable price and maybe charge people when they join or take donations for ranks.Feel free to check out my building guide in my blog, and if you are interested in additional help, I encourage you to request more answers from me and I can find relevant information! Here are some rental sites:Apex Minecraft HostingBisect Hosting
