Help Should I Continue Playing Basketball Or Should I Stop

How do I stop my mouth from going dry while playing a basketball game?

Hi, ive had a lot of trouble with my mouth while playing sports, first it started with me gagging when i wore my shortened fitted mouthguard while sparring in karate. Now i have another problem....i play basketball for school and when i start running around my mouth dries up and i cant get sliva in my mouth to moisten it. so when i breath though my mouth i get a bit of a tickle and i gag. so the main problem here is i cant moisten my dry mouth while playing becoz my sliva jus dries up.
ive thought of maybe using chewing gum so when i chew some saliva comes into my mouth.

Playing basketball while pregnant?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I had my first prenatal appointment last week and spoke to my doctor about continuing to play basketball which I do 3x a week and travel to play in tournaments and scrimmage. My doctor said it was fine. I love being active, but I've been reading some comments from other pregnant women on message boards I've skimmed through and found them telling these athletes to not play anymore and that it's too risky. I value people's opinions on here, I realize they are opinions but any information that is for the better of my growing fetus will be appreciated. When should I stop playing?

Sciatica vs playing basketball?

I'm a 15 year old kid, member of the basketball team and loving it. I love basketball and I play it so regularily that it has come to be a basic "need" in my life.
Around march of 09, I had a back injury which healed itself alright after a couple of weeks. But then, I started to experience pain... Which I waited off till now to have it diagnosed as sciatica from a herniated disc.

I'm seeing a chiropractor and on basic anti inflammatory drugs, but both my doc and my chiropractor suggest that I stop playing basketball for a month for it to heal up. But I have a major tournament coming up this weekend, and can't really afford to miss practises and not learn the plays from this.

Their main reason why I should stop playing bball is cause they're concerened about the general position while dribbling, how you're crouching down.

I guess what I'm asking is that in the last 8 months i've had sciatica, i've played a ton of sports that are quite high impact and stuff and some aggressive junior basketball... And the pain hasn't worsened or anything. Actuall in recent days, the pain has improved.

So to anyone who's had sciatica, is it alright to continue with your physical sports even with sciatica?and yes, the pain is totally bearable and even minor during playing and everyday life. It just hurts a bit when standing up for a long time or sitting down for a long time. Please help.

I suck at playing basketball. should I quit it?

Your heart is just not into it anymore.Talent and perseverance will only get you so far without genuine PASSION. If you’re in the game but “the lights aren’t on upstairs,” meaning that you’re not really interested in the process or the outcome, are distracted with thoughts about other things in your life, are no longer having fun and basically can’t wait for it to be over, then maybe this just isn’t the sport for you, and that’s okay .Don’t stay in it because of pressure from other people, or because you want a reason to do what your friends are doing.Life is too short for that! If you don’t LOVE the sport or don’t CRAVE to do your best at that particular endeavor, then find something else that you will feel that way about.Maybe it’s another sport! Lots of athletes start out in one sport and then later, find more enjoyment in another. If you choose to quit, then do it with pride knowing it was for the right reasons. All the best for your future ..Follow me for more enlightening answers in future ..Tharshini Ramesh <^>

If you stop playing basketball, will you lose all your skills including ball handling/shooting or is it possible to build a base that never goes away?

I used to play religiously as a kid through high school. In college and afterwards I stopped playing because I started boxing and because my right ankle is terrible (by senior year i was spraining it every month bad enough to to have to take weeks off at a time).Anyways, when I used to play, I was pretty good overall but what I’m best at was my ball handling. I just got it down pat and that was my strength. I juke people out like back of my hands, it was like THE point of pride for me. Nowadays I still play pickup once in awhile and I’ve literally become a 180 opposite player. I play defense, rebound and take open shots instead of always taking it to the basket. My handles are basic, I know what to do mentally but without the every day honing I simply can’t do what I used to do. The fundamentals are easy to apply and retain, but the fancy stuff is difficult and requires constant practice for upkeep.

How do know if you love playing basketball?

Hey - good question.I would immediately ask you a counter-question for this: how do you know whether you love anything? Is it if you do it often or is it if you want to do it often? Is it that you have to get better at it or is it that you want to improve? Loving something comes down to the basics: do you want to do it? Some people love playing an instrument. They practice, maybe not tirelessly but when they do they feel a benefit from it. Loving something isn’t the same as doing it all the time. It’s the feeling of satisfaction and achievement and a rewarding sense of mind once said thing has been done. You shouldn’t have to be asked to do something you love but obviously it helps to have someone push you. After all, if you don’t want to do something, do you really love it?For me, basketball was initially a fun activity I would partake in because my dad and my brother loved it too; it would just be the thing they were doing all the time and I wouldn’t have much choice. But as I grew older, I found that playing it not only brought back those fun childhood memories, but also that it was generally just a fun thing to do and that I actually wanted to do it. Echoing this, when I joined a club at age 10, the feeling of playing my first game was amazing. That team spirit I had only grasped at, through watching High School Musical and watching my brother play with his team finally became a reality and my diagnosis was clear as day: I love basketball. I still do, aged 20-something, and I know my feelings will stay the same throughout my life, backed by the memory of my dad, my brother and I, out on our court - our little corner of heaven.I hope this helped you =)

Should I quit basketball? I don’t enjoy playing the game like I used to before. Why have I lost my motivation to play/practice basketball?

If you don’t enjoy it anymore, you could quit or you could go back to the roots of what gave you your love for it to begin with. If you do the latter, you could set a high goal for yourself and see if you can meet and surpass it. Once you do, you set another one. I have this issue right now with video games, my writing, and exercising. I had a rhythm of all three and the events of last year killed it and I’ve just here recently been trying to re-establish my motivation and love for all three by going back to the source. I know it’s tough to get back into your love for basketball, but definitely think it over. You can honestly do what you wish and that’s okay if you no longer lace up the sneaks and play again, but I wanna help you see another scenario that may benefit you by sticking with basketball too.
