Help The Knot Of One Of My Stitches Is Stuck Under My Skin

Part of my stitches is stuck under my skin!?

Are you sure these aren't self-dissolving sutures (also known as subcutaneous stitches (stitches under the skin) that you should just leave alone because they will eventually disappear (typically two-three weeks) after they've done their job?

My stitch is stuck under my skin?

Normal action for the skin, but not so good for the body.

If they are dis solvable stitches I wouldn't worry with it, for obvious reasons. If not, go have them removed,.. or remove the 'one' problematic stitch yourself.

I don't usually recommend this, but if you don't have much money, etc -- it would be better to properly remove a stitch that will ultimately be stuck under the skin now, than letting that occur.

Suture removal is nothing but a snip an quick pull. (Making sure not to leave any residual under the skin). You would want to snip and pull from the knot.

Again though, if you have insurance.. just go to your family doctor and have them properly taken out.

Any foreign body that isn't going to self dispose of itself will likely cause infection.

My dog has stitches sticking out?

As a former nurse I can tell you to get tweezers and a pair of manicuring scissors. Pull the stitch up and cut it just below the knot. It should just slide out. If you feel squeamish doing this just go back to the vet. It will help if you have someone hold the dog still while you do it. Don't let it bother you if there is a little blood. Sometimes it will pocket near an undissolved stitch. Wipe the area with alcohol when your done.

Piece of suture (stitch) stuck under skin. What do I do?

My 2 year old son walked into a picnic table a few weeks ago and had to get 2 stitches above his right eye (eye brow area). When we took him into the Dr. to have the stitches removed, the nurse cut the entire knot off and left the stitch under his skin! The Dr. came in and told me that it would be OK, that it would work its way out. That was a week and a half ago. Now he has a small "bump" where the scar is and you can see the stitch but its buried under the skin (like a splinter). He complains that it hurts every time anyone touches it. What should I do? Will it really work its way out? I'm very concerned.

Laprascopy stitches sticking out after 7 weeks!?

Chances are that they are dissolving stitches, however it seems like they haven't really done their job at dissolving. Having the stitches inside you is not really a big deal, but if it hurts, you can go back and ask them to fix it. This will involve opening you back up and either removing or retying the stitches. This should be free because it was their goof-up in the first place, but I would still make sure beforehand.

What do I do when a post surgery stitch gets stuck and buried into the skin?

Under no circumstances should you try to remove them or you will get an infection, not good after surgery because you body is extra vunerable & a minor infection could turn life threatening. Keep it clean & dry & wait patiently for your appointment. The only reason it got "buried" was because by missing your initial appt. you allowed enough time to pass so that the skin entered the next stage of healing where stronger collagen fibers begin to form across the wound, this process encapsulated the stitches allowing the newly formed skin to grow up around them. Many sutures are actually absorbable, meaning they'll eventually disolve in the body, but if no the doctor only has to take them out for cosmetic purposes

I'm going to remove my own stitches (sutures)?

FYI--Often suture removal is included in the original bill (so there is no extra charge if you get them out at the place they went in)--you could call & check. Otherwise besure & just cut one side of the suture (Not all the way through--or you will leave a piece of suture under the skin) under the knot. Then apply a few butterflies to support the wound. If the sutures are too stuck down to remove; soak in diluted hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes. If you can't cut them, (some are just too tight) you will need to return to the doc's.

Can I pull my stitches out of my gums they bother me?

No, please never do that. You can cause trauma to your oral cavity as well as the underlying healing tissues. If it's bothering you please go to your dentist and don't take any unnecessary measures on your own.

What happens if you don't have your dog's stitches removed?

My mom's dog had to have several stitches after getting into a fight w/another dog and b/c it cost her so much for the visit she couldn't afford to bring the dog back to have stitches removed. Will it be harmful to the dog to leave them in? They are not the dissolvable type, but I imagine after awhile they will just loosen and fall out on their own. Will they?

Is it safe to remove my dog's stitches myself?

It seems like an easy procedure and it is. But it is important that your veterinary doctor checks if the wound is healed and if your pet needs any further support. Sometimes owners miss and do not see signs that might be visible to a professional.First, of all your vet will make sure that the wound is properly healed and it is not too early to take the stitches out. Otherwise, you risk that your dog will have to be sedated and stitched again.Second of all, your vet will check for any signs of seroma build-up, infection and inflammation, not only locally but also in general.——-Co-founder of Dogo - mobile app that helps you train your dog at home.iOS App: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/...Android App: https://play.google.com/store/ap...
