Help To Start Building Up A Resume For Sociology Degree

I have a bachelor's degree in sociology, but now I want to become a nurse. What is the best way of going about this?

It depends on the requirements of your state and which classes you took for your sociology degree. I considered pursuing a nursing degree after getting a bachelor’s in sociology a few years ago.I went to a local college and found that I wouldn’t actually need many additional classes before I could enroll in clinicals. If I remember correctly, it was only like 14 additional credits, mostly in science , plus clinicals, to complete the two-year RN program.I didn’t pursue it because there was a 3-year wait for clinicals and the job outlook for nurses where I lived wasn’t good. Talking to nurses in my area and reading forums like allnurses | Community For Nurses And Students helped me figure out that there was no nursing shortage and that the available jobs were mostly part time and in home care or senior facilities, which I didn’t want. Also keep in mind that nearly every hospital system now wants a BSN, which requires a lot more than the 2-year RN track. And there is a lifetime limit on federal student loans, which you may have reached during your first degree. You might have to pay for the nursing degree out of pocket.Long story short: you might not need as many classes as you think to get an RN and it’s worth talking to a college advisor. If nursing is your passion, go for it. But if you’re underemployed and are looking for a job field that has more openings, I’d recommend doing more research first.

Reliable, flexible and hard working
Computer skills: Windows, XP, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, QuickBooks, Aphelion, Internet research
But another example would be my dad's resume and he is a driver/Warehouse worker and these are the skills listed on his resume:
 Team-Player with excellent communication skills
 Class C Driver’s License (Clean DMV record)
 Forklift Experience
 Very familiar with the Bay Area
 Great hand skills and quick learner
 Flexible, reliable and dependable hard-worker
 Motivated self-starter with a strong desire to learn
 Professional appearance, attitude and demeanor

So TEAMWORK, EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS, RELIABLE, QUICK LEARNER are some that apply to any job type. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

24 years old, no direction in life - what to do?

I'm 24 years old. I graduated from college two years ago with a degree in sociology. After graduating, I moved overseas and taught English as a second language for a couple years which was a really great experience overall.

Since coming back, I've been living with my parents again and working as a teacher but I barely make enough to support myself and more importantly, I don't really enjoy teaching anymore.

The problem is I don't know what to do with my life. I would consider going back to school if I felt sure about wanting to continue my studies, but I don't feel passionate enough about any field in particular to make that kind of commitment.

How do I figure out what I should be? Everyone tells me to choose an occupation based on what I'm good at, but I don't have many (yet discovered) talents and the few talents I do have don't necessarily translate well into a particular career path.

I want to do something I enjoy and something that pays well enough for me to be able to support myself. I don't feel like that's asking too much and yet it seems so far out of my reach. Most of my college friends are either already successful in their careers or at least passionately pursuing what they want to do - I feel like a loser living at home with my parents and not even having any clear goals.

What should I do?
