Help With Asus Laptop I Have No Clue What The Hell Happened

Is Toshiba a good laptop brand? Why or why not?

Not only a good computer brand, but one of the largest.“Toshiba Corporation (株式会社東芝 Kabushiki-gaisha Tōshiba) is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Its diversified products and services include information technology, communications equipment & systems, electronic components and materials, power systems, industrial and social infrastructure systems, consumer electronics, household appliances, medical equipment, office equipment, lighting and logistics.Toshiba was founded in 1938 as Tokyo Shibaura Electric K.K. through the merger of Shibaura Seisaku-sho (founded in 1875) and Tokyo Denki (founded in 1890). The company name was officially changed to Toshiba Corporation in 1978.Toshiba is organised into four business: the Digital Products Group, the Electronic Devices Group, the Home Appliances Group and the Social Infrastructure Group. In 2010, Toshiba was the world's fifth-largest personal computer vendor measured by revenues (after Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer and Lenovo). In the same year, it was also the world's fourth-largest manufacturer of semiconductors by revenues (after Intel Corporation, Samsung Electronics and Texas Instruments).” - ToshibaOf course, the fact that it is a Toshiba will only guarantee they have the “Toshiba” name to maintain and, you are not buying “low quality electronics”. It will not guarantee that each, and every computer they have on the market, is a very fast one. If you buy a “cheap Toshiba”, it will be reliable, but it still will be, a, somehow, “low performance” machine. The same will apply to other known brands. If you want performance, you need to increase your budget. But, Toshiba has a good “price/quality” relation on their products. Toshiba - Laptop ReviewsIf you get a Toshiba, you will get a good product, regardless the price you are willing to pay. The specs for that given product, will depend on how much you are willing to spend.

Is it safe enough to buy laptop from USA? I want to use it in india.

You must be under the impression that EVERY retailer in the USA is exactly the same.  Like, it is just one big store, and everyone provides the same quality of shopping and shipping experience. It is not.It might be perfectly safe to purchase it from one retailer... and not so safe from another.  However... what the hell does "safe" mean?  Do you mean that if you walk into a store in the USA to purchase a laptop, are you going to get robbed at gunpoint as you leave the store?  Do you mean that if you buy the laptop from a USA retailer, is it going to fall apart 10 minutes after you get it home or to your hotel?  Do you mean that if you buy a laptop from a USA retailer, is it going to explode the moment you turn it on?What exactly do you mean by "safe"?  If your entire question is all about whether your laptop will power up in India.... you use a Type D connector to the wall.  Power plug & outlet Type D - World Standards.  It appears that there are other "standards" India: power plug adapter needed? | POWER PLUGS AND SOCKETS OF THE WORLD.  The point is, that it is 230V Alternating Current at 50Hz.  The power brick that will come with your laptop will work with 100-240V AC current, from 50-60HZ.  All you'll need to do is change the cable that goes from the power brick to the wall, and it will power your laptop just fine.Exactly which power cable I couldn't tell you, because that will vary from laptop power adapter, to laptop power adapter. All of this might be a moot point.  Most retailers in the USA won't ship to India.  So, you'd have to use a service like https://www.myus.com/ or https://www.shipito.com/ or https://www.viabox.com/ to have them provide a USA address you could use to get your product shipped to... and then that shipping service would turn around and ship the laptop to you in India.

Is it safe to play games on laptop?

You A2A… and of course I was going to say that it was safe… but then I got to thinkin. If you are gaming on a laptop, then it’s probably a nice laptop. I mean, since you can’t do any serious gaming on a cheap laptop… even with Streamplay.So. It’s a nice laptop. It probably cost you a pretty penny, and it most likely is either quite flashy, or has distinctive logos and markings on it.It is also a laptop, which means you’d be using it to game in places other than your home. Like… the coffee shop, and the library… or maybe even in the middle of a park somewhere. I mean, you spent the money on a gaming laptop. If you never planned on using it anywhere other than your desk, even if you have a teeny tiny desk, you made a mistake and blew money on the mobility that could have given you better performance for the same dollar in a desktop. So… laptop. Mobile. Gaming out in public. That draws attention.People seem to like to steal expensive looking electronics. I dunno. Maybe it is the fact that they are expensive and mobile, and relatively easy to turn over for a tidy sum. But you aren’t the Macbook owner with the expensive laptop who would probably hand it over if confronted… because that’s the smart thing to do. You are the ROG owner who couldn’t afford the $1400 to begin with, and this punk isn’t going to take it from you that easily. So… in the wrong circumstances… playing games on a laptop could be unhealthy, and therefore deemed as “unsafe”.I know, weird… right?

I was going to buy an MSI gaming laptop but I heard that it gets spoilt very easily. People also said that they use cheap parts. Is it true? If not MSI then which company is the best replacement?

I have to agree with Haikal. I haven't come across anyone saying: "MSI makes laptops with cheap parts".So, you're the first person whose mentioned it.Apart from the occasional disk failure and screen with black pixels I haven't noted any relevant bad review/s or system failure/s for any MSI gaming laptop. If the issue is noted on purchase simply replace the model, no fee. When you're out of warranty; notify MSI and get a replacement but, with a fee.An unknown fact:The MSI India Service Centres are spread across the country although, they aren't as prompt as Dell and Lenovo it does provide unrestricted access to "market dependable" replacement parts.MSI build their laptops to last the warranty period and more with ZERO issues (this is their selling strategy). They do so by providing efficient cooling. Which is why, they're comparatively expensive than HP, Dell and Lenovo (with the same specifications). My personal reason for recommending MSI:While looking for a "cheaper gaming laptop" I identified Acer Predator, Asus ROG, Lenovo, Alienwear (Dell) and MSI to be among the top brands for gaming laptops in India. Now, when I consider a good Gaming laptop with optimized cooling (in order of best 1st):MSI.Acer Predator.Asus ROG.Lenovo.Dell Alienwear Not every Lenovo model but, a handful that actually beat Dell to a pulp.My priority is for:Durability by efficient cooling.RAW power.Upgrade potential.Selling price:actual manufacturing cost (there's always going to be a discrepancy). For the Indian market:Dell and Lenovo are by far better - if, you're buying a laptop for general use and with an eye on easy availability of replacements parts. Whereas, MSI, Acer Predator and Asus ROG are the best for gaming.

Computer not responding, keeps crashing- useless! help?

I'll try to give the other info as best as i can
it's XP, about 10 months old- no brand it was made for me but as far as i know the motherboard is asus- i'm not sure if that helps?
i'll leave it for a while, and sometimes i can start a program, but then it will just crash- not at the same time everytime though. i started a virus scan and it went for about an hour and about 2/3 of the way through, but it only should have taken about 20mins

sorry if it's not the right info, if you haven't noticed already i'm not much of a computer person lol.

What would happen if Apple made OS X free for all x86 computers?

For a start I would probably be typing this answer on an Asus or a HP notebook rather than the pricey MacBook I use now. Undoubtedly other people would also take advantage of the offer and Apple's sales of the iMac and MacBook would decline to the point where further development of OSX would be economically pointless. Microsoft, fearing the defections away from Windows may resort to some coercive business practices to prevent x86 computer manufacturers straying from their licensing relationships with the company and consign OSX to a fate like BEOS. Ultimately OSX would probably become orphaned and open source, the tight integration of hardware and software would disappear (as Erik Fair points out) and the consequent mess would be unappealing to the users who value its stability and logical UI.

Why do people like apple so much?

This has bugged me for years. I want to hear from people and their opinions on why apple is awesome. But before you do that, here are my agruments.
1.Apple is tooooo much money.
2.Yes, they are well built, but the OS sucks and they are over priced ie: i can buy a nice ASUS for $1000 and its 3 times as good as a mac thats $2000.
3.They are just a name: like Quick Silver is for clothes, MACs are for Computers and phones.
4.In reality, iPods are nice, i must say, i do like them, but they are just a pda with software that plays MP3s. Nothing else.
5.THEIR PHONES. This is the absolute worst. They suck first off, and they are blown away by performance and OS of android.
6.Speaking of OS, what is an iOS?? Why "i"? An iOS and an OS are exactly the same thing. And an "iDevice" is the same thing as PDA or Laptop.
7.What MAC likes to do is release things like they are soooo new and have never been made before. Lets start with the iPhone, yes it was the first smart phone, (i DO NOT count blackberrys as "smart") but it was just a base. Like Britain invented the train, but Japan has perfected it. Apple made the smart phone, but Motorola, Samsung, HTC, and others have perfected it. Even Windows phones are better! In their "new" iPhone 4S, it is the same thing as an iPhone 4, but with a slightly faster processor, and 8 Mega pixels you will never need. You waited 1 and a half years for that crap. And updating over the air!? OMG my DROID does that.
8.NO VIRUSES: False, there are viruses for MAC. Just not so many because make is too simple and hackers like to hack more complicated stuff like windows and the Playstation Network. And windows gets viruses because so many people dont even know what they download off the internet.
9.iPad is nice, yes, and is the top for Tablets, but android is catching up.

Any other "amazing"things about Apple, tell me.

Can I use 8GB RAM together with 4GB RAM?

Usually you can but it depends on the motherboard. There are chips which are 4GB and 8GB, in dual channel mode this will not work. But you would still get 12GB total only a little slower.Sometimes you will have to swap the RAM slots since the detection has bugs. Like it will only show 4GB instead of the 8GB. Swapping the slots might work.. If the detection is really bad then it might not work at all.. IE you can either use the 4GB RAM or the 8GB RAM but not both at the same time.As you can see there are a lot of probabilities here. Now I always buy 2 of the same if I am going to use it in Dual channel mode.. Or 4 of the same if I am needing that much ram since even companies will now sell matched sets of 2 or 4 or 8 RAM sticks. That is to make sure all of them work at the same frequency without problems. You see even if a single stick works properly, adding in another one might load the bus enough to not work.Yea I been to hell and back with this.. Sometimes I wonder if technology has advanced enough. I still need a VGA monitor to setup my desktop since it does not boot up with HDMI display. While my decade old system works fine with just HDMI. I also had to wait like 2 years for intel to remove the bugs in the microscode so my system did not lock up going from very low power mode to usable speeds. You never know if RAM was the problem or CPU or motherboard or what not and be in hell trying to get it stable and working. So it might be better to take it to the shop and have them install it. OR have the option to take it back and get something else.. Most people dont know enough to get it working if a problem arise.
