Help With German Exchange Student

Help with German Exchange Student?

Learning English was probably one of the main reasons why the German girl decided to become an exchange student, so don't worry about being able to speak German to her! In fact, she may want to only communicate in English so that she gets better. Be patient and explain things clearly if she doesn't understand you. If you want to show her that you're interested in her culture, you can look up some greetings in German and, of course, ask her questions! Have fun.

Help respond to a German exchange student?

I can't tell you what to write, but let me tell you a few things;

In German schools you're in a class with he same people for years (at minimum 2 years - I've been in the same class with the others for 6 years - and it's not like there were any new people afterwards. So I have a total of 9 years I spent with the same people) and there are groups after a while. When you're new it's kind of difficult to even want to fit in one of those groups.

It's even more difficult when you're not much of a talker or entertainer or whatever. Again as for me; I can get along well with other people, but I barely make friends. So I've been friends with the same 3-5 people for the past nine years, throughout my school-life at the Gymnasium. And it took me more than a year to even become friends with them.
I think; That he is able to get along well with his new class mates is a good thing. - It needs a little more time to really become friends with others

... and another thing I notice with the people from my year; they party together and hang out - seem to have 15 or 30 friends - but when they actually need someone they turn to the same 2-3 people, if they even have people they can turn to. I don't know if it's a phenomenon only here, or elsewhere as well, but many people I know don't even want to become (real) friends with others.

All in all: I guess he sill needs some time to "find back" and it might take even more time to make new friends.

German exchange student?

That depends on for how long you want to have one and your school. Talk to your counselor at school. If you're looking for something short-term (a few weeks or such), that kind of arrangement is usually made through schools. If you're looking for longer term (semester or a year), then my advice is to sign up with an exchange program. These program take care of the paperwork and should have a local representative that 'watches over' how things are going with the student. Again, you should talk with your school. I have heard of schools that will not accept students with particular programs. You should also have a family discussion about this. I don't know if you're a teenager or a potential host parent, but everyone in the family (especially parents) will need to be interested in hosting. If I may, I would like to suggest contacting a local representative of YFU (Youth For Understanding) to talk about hosting. My husband and I are hosting our 6th exchange student now. Our first student was with a small program that no longer exists and we learned some things along the way. In 2006, we started hosting with YFU. In 2009, I became a volunteer (unpaid unless you call getting a couple of $10 gift cards or a TShirt or two as being paid) with YFU. YFU is one of the oldest (this is our 60th year), largest (each year about 2000 students come to the USA with YFU) and most respected exchange programs in the USA.
I've put some more information below. I hope your family does decide to host (even if it's not with YFU). Feel free to email me (DamEngineer@msn.com) with more questions.

What should I give a German Exchange student?

Don't put too much energy into this - your house is no hotel.
Just take a couple of different mini chocolate bars and some chips and some jelly beans. That way, your guest has something to eat in her room (which is a practical situation) and she can taste a lot of different things in a short time, so that she can decide which things to buy and bring home to her friends.

That said, American chocolate does taste like crap...... ;-)

....but Three Musketeers, 100 Grand, and Nestlé Crunch are quite good.

I like this german girl (exchange student) ..helppp plz?

Why would desire to or no longer that is one or the different? won't be able to you have a courting with him, understanding that he's going lower back to Germany in June? no longer each and every courting must be "love" or final till the tip of time, particularly at your age. bypass out with this guy, understanding that he would be leaving in June. Then be in contact with him after he returns to Germany so as which you do no longer would desire to lose his friendship. savour some time with him!

What should my german exchange student bring me?

That depends a lot on what you're interested in, and what region of Germany she's from might have a lot to do with it, too.

When I went on an exchange trip last year, my host family lived near Stuttgart. Because of the stuff about the polar bear cub that had been born at the Stuttgart zoo, she brought me a plush polar bear from a popular German toymaker. Again, just regional stuff. Food probably isn't a good idea because of customs, but if it's pre-packaged it can work--but that defeats some of what is so great about German foods.

You may just want to ask her for something that she feels is special to her region of Germany, and let her decide what that may be. You may find that you end up with something much more interesting, and something that you would never have thought of on your own.

Have fun! Exchange trips are amazing, and you'll learn a lot while she's with you.

Help Im scared of this German exchange student...?

Are you mad?? That was 65 years ago!!
Your post is the same as if a student in Africa would tell his neighbor TODAY:

My school got an american exchange student and I have been avoiding him all year because I am black and we all know what happens to my people in America... they enslave us, put us in chains and whip us and sell our children to work to death for other people, they violate our girls and have us all starve to death or work to death or kick to death, and I have to sit right next to him in one of my new classes so what should I do? I already asked my teacher to move me but he refused? Help I really hate Americans!

Or if an american native hidden in some exile country would tell his friend:
My school got an american exchange student and I have been avoiding him all year because I am an indian and we all know what happens to my people in America... they kill all of us they get into their hands, 95% of my nation are slaughtered, and I have to sit right next to him in one of my new classes so what should I do? I already asked my teacher to move me but he refused? Help I really hate Americans!

What made the nazis commit those crimes was racism and fanatic nationalism, obviously you have EXACTLY the same mindset. Don't people ever learn??? When will you start judging people for their OWN individual character and behaviour, not for that of other people they can absolutely do nothing about? When will you stop punishing innocent persons for the crime of others? When will you stop judging people for no other crime or heroic deed but to be accidentally born in one spot or another of this earth?

First but foremost: Be German. Just kidding - but seriously now, here are some nice articles from returned exchange students that could be of some help:My exchange to Canada " Student Exchange Returned exchange students talk about their experiencesA year abroad

What do I get my German exchange student friends?

I met these two German exchange students a few months ago and I have gotten very close with them both. They are two of my best friends now. One is leaving back to Germany in 13 days and I want to get her something as a going away present. I made her a bracelet which I will put with the letter I am writing her. We decided to write each other a goodbye letter which she cannot read until she is on the plane and I will put the bracelet in an envelope with that. But I want to get her something special- something kind of personal but also American that you cannot get in Germany. She is a girl, if that helps at all. The boy is not leaving for another six months but if you have any ideas for him also, that would be great.

Thank you!
