Help With Syphilis And Lupus

False positive syphilis test? lupus?

Why are you assuming it is a false positive.
Get to a doctor ASAP for testing and possible treatment.
Take care of yourself and GOOD LUCK.

Is syphilis hereditary?

It is not hereditary....but if your mother had syphilis and had a baby ...then she passes it on to the baby.....because no matter what....even if the mother received treatment for syphilis...it still remains in the blood....so if the mother or the baby has the test now or in the future....it will always come up positive ....the test would usually include RPR and confirmatory test to rule out syphilis (FTA-ABS,TP-PA,IGG-EIA)

Syphilis false positive?!?

As much as I know, and I am not a helth educate dperson, syphilis is an STD, transmited only trou sexula intecourse: vaginal, oral and anal. It is a desese that needs to be taken very very seriously.
The other thing you need to know about syphilis is that it has two phases. First fase is when you have symptoms (beside other things you get an ulcer on the place where syphilis entered your body). Then you can have a long period, sometimes years, when you have no symptoms (even if you are infected and contagious!). If syphilis is not treated it then progress into second phase, which means that your organs are damaged, and it is rather terrible . (google for more information).
I do not know how were your diagnosed. If your doctor only examined you and did not make a blood test, I would doubth that your test was accurate. Maybe he/he suspected and the blood test proved different? In any case, being diagnosed with syphilis is something that would strongly alarm me, and I would definitely insist on knowing how did I get it. I would ask my doctor about the explanation.I think that he/she is the best person to ask. I wouold go to an other doctor, and discuss this with him/her. Secon oppinion is always better, just to have calm mind.
I do not think that you having syphilis is to do with your father having it in his childhood. What is more logical to me, and I hate to tell you, is that it rather might be your partner who has it and is reinfecting you. When you had syphilis, was your partner also treated together with you? It is not an easy topic, but if you were cuser and got it again, then the only person you could get it from is people you had sex with.
Syphilis is also very much not resitent to antybiotics, so if you had taken antybiotics in the meantime, then it might be the reason why your second test were negative.
These are the options that pup into my mind...but I do strongly recomend you to go and see an other doctor, and discuss all this with him. I am sure he will be able to give you more accurate answer from what we can here.
Hope this helped.

Raised Titer - Do I have Lupus?

It is possible to have lupus with a raised ANA titer, but the rheumatologist will look at other tests as well, like rheumatoid factor, a positive double-stranded anti-DNA test, positive anti-Sm test, positive antiphospholipid antibody or false-positive syphilis test — any one of which may indicate an autoimmune disease. Remember, there is not one single lab test that will diagnose Lupus.

Every case of lupus manifests itself differently. I'm assuming that you and your family doctor believe you have Systemic Lupus. The American College of Rheumatology has established 11 criteria to help make a definitive diagnosis of lupus, along with test results.

Many people who have lupus have gone through months and even years of testing before getting a definitive diagnosis. It is so difficult to diagnose because the symptoms mimic the symptoms for other illnesses, such as MS, sarcoidosis, fibromyalgia, etc.

False positive syphilis could be nothing?

Normally if a screening test for syphilis, such as RPR, is positive, then a confirmatory test such as FTA-ABS is done. If it's negative, fine, it's not syphilis. There's not much sense in the great majority of cases in testing for lupus et al. For one, the diagnosis of lupus isn't that simple, and takes a lot more than lab tests can supply. The clinical picture has to fit in multiple areas of clinical criteria to make the diagnosis. And even if you did have a rheumatologic disease, it's unlikely there would be any change in treatment in the short term, so "knowing" wouldn't do you any good.

False positive syphilis test?

Hello, I have been tested for syphilis twice this year. Both were false positives. I have also been tested for HIV and all the other STDs and all were negative. What is the cause?

What is the difference between Lyme disease and lupus? Is it kind of the same pain?

They have confusing similarities in their symptoms, but one symptom lupus often shows that Lyme disease does not is the “butterfly rash.”It is a butterfly shaped rash that appears on the face, and as far as I know it is unique to lupus.Lyme disease is known to be a pathogenic infection, while lupus is suspected to be an autoimmune disorder.Lupus brings much more damaging inflammation into the body’s tissues than Lyme disease and it can make the body more vulnerable to things like cancers, infections, and kidney damage. To have both lupus and Lyme disease at the same time would be an extremely unfortunate combination.

How is Lyme disease different from lupus? They seem the same, but I’m not sure if we know the cause of lupus.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by a type of bacterium called a spirochete, in this case one known as Borrelia burgdorferi. Spirochetes are hard for our immune systems to fight. They can cause diseases (such as syphilis, which is caused by a different spirochete) that persist for a lifetime unless treated. Lyme Disease can affect many different parts of the body, and its effects are not only due to the activities of the bacteria but also to collateral damage from the immune system's attempt to fight off the infection.Lupus is a disease in which the immune system attacks a person's own body. It seems to be caused by faulty regulation of the immune system, which normally has safeguards against fighting the body's own cells as if they were invaders. Both Lyme Disease and lupus affect many different parts of the body. Both can be chronic and hard to diagnose. Since the activities of the immune system can look similar whether it's attacking an outsider or an insider, there is overlap in the symptoms that we observe. Both Lyme Disease and lupus can appear on the same lists of conditions to test for when a patient has certain symptoms and lab or physical exam findings. For instance, if a patient has painful, swollen joints, the “differential” (list of possible causes) will include Lupus and Lyme Disease as conditions to “rule out” (to consider as possible causes and do tests that could eliminate them from the list). So, although the difference in their cause is almost as great as the difference in how they got their names (one for a wolf and one for a town in Connecticut), the damage they do to the body can be confusingly similar.
