Helpful Donations To Save My Daughter

Can I donate my heart while I am alive to a dying relative, or do I need to kill myself first?

You obviously couldn't donate your heart while you're alive. Doctors aren't going to kill you in order to donate your heart to a loved one, and you really wouldn't be able to ensure that your organs would be donated to your relative. UNOS decides objectively to whom organs are donated based on the severity of the condition, when they entered the transplant registry, and compatibility with the organ tissues. If your relative isn't next in line to receive the organs, they won't get the organ. Additionally, you can't just put anyone's organs in someone else. It would be necessary to match their blood type and antibodies, so you couldn't be sure that you're even a match, and they certainly wouldn't test you since you couldn't be a living donor. Most forms of suicide damage your organs, so you wouldn't be able to donate anyway. For people who die under suspicious circumstances, as would likely be the case with a suicide, the person's body must be evaluated and autopsied by the Medical Examiner, so you wouldn't be a candidate for organ donation in that case either. Most importantly, in order for organs to be transplanted, they must be perfused and that can't happen once you die. If you were to kill yourself, your organs would die along with you, and they wouldn't be viable to transplant.Basically, you couldn't donate your heart. I know you mean well and it's hard to face the reality of your relative's mortality, but you really can't help them in this way.

Do you donate blood? If you don't, why not? What religion are you?

I donate blood.

I was in a car accident when I was 11 and had a serious cut on my neck (among many others) and almost bled out, I dont remember hardly anything form that day because I blacked out. Someones blood saved my life and for that I am forever grateful, in return I donate my own blood now with hopes that it will help others.

Has anyone ever cancelled their donation to Save The Children?

I've never sponsored though Save The Children but I've cancelled 2 sponsorships with Children International (no longer felt enough of my money was being used properly) one child with Compassion International (very expensive and I did not like their evangelical approach).

Phone is easier since you get it over with faster (because it is hard) and because your letter may get lost in the mail. Children International was very understanding, and Compassion International made me feel like I was the worst person in the world for doing what I did.

Am I a terrible person for not donating blood?

Lately I have been feeling very guilty. My school is organizing a blood-donation day where groups of students from each year level can donate their blood to help save the lives of others. Apparently you cannot take part if you have underlying medical problems, have recently been unwell etc. I am healthy and probably should participate.

Everyone is talking about it and in my opinion they are very generous and caring. I think the students participating are amazing for doing this kind thing. But I simply CANNOT bring myself to do it. I feel awful about it! Just thinking of needles makes me squirmish. The thought of blood, veins and needles makes me feel physically ill and terribly uncomfortable.

Am I a bad person? I feel so selfish and mean. Can I help others out in ways that do not involve the extraction of my own blood into a plastic bag?

Were can i donate my hair for cancer patients?

check your local beauty shops and see if they donate to Locks of Love......there should be several that do.....just get your yellow pages and start calling the numbers for beauty shops and ask them. When you find one then you can make an appointment and have them prepare your hair and send it to the organization.

Living organ donation is unethical?

i'm i the only person who feels this way? the papers are always going on about how heroic people are for given a kidney up to a total stranger, but it seem wrong to me.

people get sick and die, we save who can but there is limit to what we should do. it's sick to ask healthy person to risk their own health and mutilate their body so we migth save a dying person.

Medicine is based off the idea of 'doing no harm', so how can doctors justify hacking open healthy living people and taking their organs? It's just not right.

Being rude, when donating clothes?

Never donate underwear, and yes it is rude to donate stained clothing. Just because someone does not have a lot of money doesn't mean they don't want to look nice. If you donate clothes you should always make sure they are in good condition, with no stains, holes or tears.

No one wants to look like a bum, or like they are poor, even if they are. Most people carry themselves with dignity even if they shop at thrift stores. There is nothing wrong with using donated clothes, but there is something wrong wtih feeling you're good enough to throw nasty stained clothing onto someone else.
