Helping A Slow Worm Cat Attack

Will my dog attack a new cat?

Many dogs will react to cats outdoors but not to one in the house. Your dog will probably quickly accept the kitten as a member of the family. Introduce them gradually, and never let them be together unsupervised till the kitten is old enough to defend itself if necessary, and until you have trained the dog to sit quietly in the kitten's presence. The dog is big enough to kill a kitten by mistake though most Labs are quite gentle. You must make it clear that the kitten is not just a self-propelled squeaky toy.

Rub your hand on the kitten's mouth and ears and let the dog smell your hand.

I'd recommend having a cage for the kitten, and when it first arrives in the house, set the cage down on the floor and let the dog sniff the kitten. If the dog acts like a jerk and paws at the cage, tell him to cut it out. Once the dog is used to the kitten in the cage, let the kitten out and have some way of confining the dog where he can see the kitten until he's used to the kitten walking around. Just take it slow and make it clear to the dog that the kitten is not to be messed with.

Once the dog is cool with the kitten walking around, you could hold the kitten in your lap and let the dog sniff it a bit. Any sign of the dog getting excited around the kitten should be strongly discouraged. Expect this introduction period to take anywhere from a few days to more than a week.

Why does my dog attack her kibble before eating it?

That is so funny. It's probably partly instinct, the desire to attack the prey before eating it, but also a matter of playing. Sounds like she's still a puppy at heart.

I have heard that by pampering cats & dogs, we keep them as children for life. Maybe that's why the vet always referred to me as "Mom," as in telling the cat that "Mom" could hold onto her back in the days when I had a cat. And indeed many cats & most likely dogs, too, maintain some of the behavior of kittens & puppies, seeing themselves as not having left the safety of the litter, since they've made the emotional transfer of seeing us as their mothers with whom they will stay forever. Hence the attack on the food as a puppy-like action of pretending that it is prey. I've seen some cats & dogs take out a chunk of moist canned food & carry out the same pantomime on the kitchen linoleum.

Is death from heartworm painful for cats? Do they have to suffer much?

Imagine having your air slowly cut off and slowly suffocating. I presently have my 11 yr old Jackhuahua going through treatment for a high-level infestation of heartworms. The first symptom was a cough that seemed more like she couldn’t get air. The adult worms attach inside the heart and the outflowing blood to the lungs get clogged by the worms causing an intractable cough. Her heart is also enlarged due to being full of worms, her heart could stop at any time. Death from heartworms is usually slow and torturous but your pet could just go to sleep and never wake again. The treatment is expensive ~1,000 dollars, I couldn’t afford the preventatives before but thankfully now I can afford to have her treated and keep her on the preventatives till she passes from old age.

Is slow kill or fast kill best for heartworm in dogs?

Sadly, I have had a dog who had a heart worm infestation. The vet gave me 2 choices which were to treat regularly and slowly with oral medication once a month which would kill the heart worms, but the problem remaining would be the body’s ability to clear the circulatory system of the dead worms. She said that his body might be able to do that over time, but that there was no guarantee, and he might die from a heart attack due to clogged blood vessels which could happen sooner or later. The second was a one-time treatment with a medication which would kill the heart worms right away, but the risk of heart attack would increase tremendously, and he could die within a couple of days. Well, I chose the slow method, and remained happy and healthy for several years thereafter. Based on only my experience, I would have made the same decision. I would not, however, chosen to do nothing because that would just be cruel and negligent. I hope this helps.

How to get rid of a tape worm?

my Mom use to ALWAYS tell me and my twin sister that we had a tape worm because we were so skinny and NEVER gained weight!

You might just seriously have awesome metabolism!

Here is a flush that is great for all sorts of nasty things in your body.

Liver Flush...
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves

3 sprigs of parsley

1 clove of garlic

1 pinch of cayenne pepper

2 small oranges peeled

1/2 grapefruit peeled

1/2 lemon peeled

1 to 2 inches of fresh ginger root peeled

1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
Instructions: Put 2 oz. water in blender. Start blending the
ingredients listed above one at a time in order except olive oil. When all ingredients are completely blended, approximately 1-2 minutes, coarse stain into bowl, stirring with wooden spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. (The clove stem will not breakdown completely, this is fine). Coarse strain means the mesh of the strainer is coarse, about the size of holes in a window screen or slightly larger. Spring water can also be added if it is too thick. Then put back strained liquid in blender, add olive oil and re-blend. Yields about 10-12 ounces.

Drink on an empty stomach first thing in the morning on the liver days of the cleanse. Do not eat anything for at least 30 minutes.

VH1 used this same flush for flushing of toxins and waste.

Can dogs have heart attacks? If so what are the signs.?

The common symptoms of an dog heart attack are: difficulties in breathing, pain in the center of the chest, which sometimes stretches out to the neck and arms and, occasionally, to the superior part of the abdomen (noticed in the dog by the attitudes and positions that he adopts). The animal can sweat and go unconscious. You must urgently call the vet. Meanwhile, help the animal to get into a more comfortable position (instinctively he will cooperate). Remove the leash. Don't try to raise or transferred the animal. Don't get them any liquid to drink. If he is uneasy try to calm him down. Meanwhile, try to rehearse the procedures of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation in case the animal loses his pulse and stops breathing. Don't try mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on an animal that is breathing naturally. If the animal isn't breathing and you feel that the heart has stopped beating, then you must proceed to do the artificial respiration. If he has problems to breathe, raise the thorax and head high enough in order to make the breathing easier. If the dog doesn't present any breathing problems, keep him on his side. Do not let him move or stand up. Try to keep him warm, but don't apply excessive heat. Get veterinarian assistance immediately.

Homeopathy is popular for treatment of ring worms as it is considered safe and side effect free. Ringworm (herpes circinatus) is a common Fungal infection of the skin and can affects any part of the body including feet, groin, scalp and beneath the breasts. Tinea or ring worm can be spread by skin-to-skin contact or indirectly through towels, clothes or floors. Why is my cat swishing its tail and purring?

In the past, I didn’t know why my cat would be purring & seeming to enjoy being petted & then a second later, biting me. I still don’t know why, but I do know that, even if he is purring, when he starts swishing his tail, it’s time to stop petting him.

Can an opossum in my backyard hurt my cat?

They can put on a fearsome show of teeth and claws, but in my experience, they don't attack other animals.  You've probably heard the term "play possum"?  That's what they tend to do rather than engage with a cat or dog.   That's not to say it can't happen, they will protect themselves and their young, but an opossum won't go after your cat just because it's in the vicinity. If you ignore the 50 teeth and razor sharp claws, you're left with a frightened animal just trying to make it's way in the world, which is easy to forget when confronted with this in the dark:  We used to see an opossum and one of the neighbor's cats in our yard nearly every night.   They'd sit out there together like old acquaintances.  It was like a scene from a children's storybook.  They can pass on fleas or lice to your cat. Spreading disease is possible through it's feces or body fluids to some animals. It's extremely rare for an opossum to spread rabies. The theory is their body temperature isn't warm enough for the virus to survive.  Opossums are carnivorous and will occasionally eat small animals and reptiles, including snakes, if it's the only food available.  If there's a choice, they prefer mice, garden insects and carrion.
