Hey Guys Can You Rate My Sat Essay

Is there anyone on Quora who got a perfect SAT score, yet got rejected by the Ivy Leagues?

Not quite, but close.I got a 1590 on my SATs when a 1600 was perfect.  Actually I got a 1570 with an 800 in math my first try, but it initially came to me as a 1540 then was rescored after a rare scoring mistake.  I retook it before I was informed about the rescore and got a 1590 with an 800 in verbal on my second try.http://articles.latimes.com/1997...I was rejected from pretty much every university I applied: Harvard, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, CalTech, Stanford, Harvey Mudd, UPenn, Princeton, Swarthmore.  The only place I got in was Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate NY, which I attended.  RIT wouldn't admit me as a computer science major, so I was forced to major in mathematics.I participated in a lot of high school activities: debate, academic decathlon, great books, Boy Scouts, etc.  I published a novel mathematics paper in high school.  My problem was GPA: I had a 2.1 because all my classes moved way too slow, I was bored out of my mind, and I never did homework. My high school didn't allow me in several advanced classes due to grades, so I borrowed the textbooks for classes I was refused admittance, took the AP exams anyway, and got 5's.  I also took a bunch of CLEP exams because reading books and acing tests is really easy.  I had enough credits to start college with junior standing... I was a senior after the fall quarter.I've found lack of access to an Ivy League school meant I could never get into a class that moves fast enough for me and I practically never encounter a peer who thinks like I do.  All my life I've felt like everything is moving in slow motion.  I hate being the smartest person in the room all the time, with the pace of the room set to someone 50 IQ points below me.  It's like a constant urge to run, but your shoelaces are tied together.I've never been able to recover from not getting into a decent college.  My whole life I've operated at far below my potential because opportunities flow from the piece of paper you get, not from how fast you think or how much you know.If you don't get into a good college, your life is over.Hopefully someday I'll have kids and I'll be able to tell my kids that even though homework is completely useless for learning things (reading a textbook or hearing a professor is sufficient), you have to waste your time conforming with the broken institution -- because otherwise your life will be ruined and you'll always be surrounded by idiots.

Can someone honestly rate my essay?

hi guys, this is my college essay for BU (boston univ) can someone please gimme any suggestions for this essay and pick grammatical errors (if any). thx!

here's the essay question: Students consider many different factors when applying to college. Briefly discuss who or what influenced your decision to apply to Boston University.

Applying to the ideal university is one of the most crucial factors that can shape a student's life. A typical ideal university for an aspiring student would be one that is well reputed and offers excellent and exciting courses for a student. Boston University is the University of my Choice because it's a top-notch university which is situated in the beautiful city of Boston, M.A. The city is a utopia for anyone who wants to reside there since it offers movie theaters, excellent cuisines, comedy clubs, shopping centers and everything that a student would dream of. I also read in a university magazine that the BU campus offers a state-of the-art classroom experience , great food and outstanding sports facilities and moreover , the students are happy with the university's yearly costs.

I decided that your university would be my first choice when one of my relatives told me about his experience at Boston University. He told me that his experience at Boston University was so good that he wouldn't mind joining and studying another course at the university again. I became even more interested in joining BU when I learnt that the university offers an excellent reputed course in biomedical engineering.

Being an international student myself, I am keen in joining a diverse pool of students from different races and ethnics who will interact with one another, work hard and at the same time have lots of fun and an exciting learning experience at Boston University. I am sure that your university will provide me with the intellectual and extracurricular skills that will make me into a respected individual who will make the University proud of my Achievements

I need help with a conclusion to my essay about Life During the Great Depression?

A conclusion paragraph should encompass the main ideas in the writing and then have a concluding sentence.

For example, Life during the Great Depression of the 1930’s was devastating. Many people lost everything. People panicked but others found ways of escape through entertainment. What would it be like if the Great Depression happened today? Would people panic? Would new and exciting avenues of entertainment evolve? What lessons could we learn from that time? If it would happen again, I hope that we, as Americans would rebound as they did. We could learn and grow by knowing what our great grandparents suffered and appreciate their courage in working through it.

Or something like that. All I did was take a little from each of your paragraphs and then added a positive ending.

How can an Indian student be admitted by MIT for undergraduate studies?

Almost every international student going to MIT from India is there because he/she has an Olympiad medal. People like Diptarka Hait, Arindam Bhattacharya, Jeet mahopatra, Prafulla Dhariwal are all at MIT just because they were extraordinarily talented in science and proved this in the international Olympiads. Rare intakes like Ayush Sharma do not have Olympiad medals. Else every kid has made it at least to the National Olympiad exam. All the articles that you read about “diversity” and “all rounders” work well for American citizens. Even students like Chitrang Murdia got into MIT as a transfer student because he had medals and topped IIT JEE with AIR-1.Are you an Indian wanting to join MIT ? Study your a** off and get a few international medals or get IIT JEE rank below 10 and go there as transfer student. Because most of the guys mentioned above had more than 1 international medals. You are more likely to find a pink dolphin than an Indian intake at MIT without an international medal.Moment of silence in the name of all Indian students who thought that “glowing hot recommendation letters” and “extracurricular activities (in school or in your extended community) that demonstrate: Leadership, Commitment, Passion, Excellent time management, and a Warm interpersonal relationship with others in a team-building setting” could get them into MIT.Bottom line is that as an international student, get a medal to be “considered”. Stop wasting your time reading answers where they glorify your extra curricular and sound like international medals aren't a big deal. Maybe works well for American kids. Instead, pick a Claydens et al or a Griffiths book and start studying.

Rejected at UC Davis Help!?

EDIT:

i just wanted to update to you that I got accepted to UCSB. If I did, then I'm SURE you did too!!! Good luck :]

Aww I'm really sorry. I'm in the same position as you. I just got rejected from UCSD, but it's a very competitive school so I still have some hopes. I applied to all the same schools as you except Davis (I really wish I applied though) and now I'm anxious about UCSB. That's my dream school. Your SATs and GPA are higher than mine so hold your head up. Your stats look really good for UCSB! UCSD is competitive and so is Davis since they are only accepting 5,000 students. I'm sure you'll get in, just have faith! Let us know when you get accepted to UCSB! =]

What are my chances of getting into UW as a transfer student?

I am a current freshman at Boise State and I want to transfer to UW this fall. I applied in January and am just waiting for the June/July period when they send out letters. I got a 26 on my ACT, 1680 SAT, 3.9 GPA both in high school and currently in college, and I feel like my essay I submitted was decent. I have been told transferring from an out of state 4 year university makes it more competitive to get in, especially since most of their transfers come from community colleges and have completed 2 years, but what do you think my chances of getting in are? I really want to go there but I need to consider the other schools I ve applied to if I don t think I have a shot of going here. Thanks!
