Are women allured by a guy playing classical guitar?

My earliest memory at a hot flush and chemistry was walking the subway as a child and hearing and seeing this guy playing on this guitar and singing with such feeling with a laid back body language ...it was the rawness, the openess of his expression and the confidence and meaning in his voice... he wore his heart on his sleeve as he sang - which was at once soft/vulnerable but very brave/masculine ... a balance i love in a guy!

I have been involved with a few guys that play guitar and i have to say classical doesnt really reach me unless he puts his whole body and facial expression into it like Mike Olefield (tubular bells) but the guys I dated that used acoustic guitar and sang was something that rocked my world...! What a guy lacks in intonation and sincerity he can capture in a song and a note that just pierces the womens feelings ... so i'd say it definately works!!

Why does the "My Cat From Hell" guy bring a guitar to the homes?

To be honest, it's so gimmicky it drives me crazy. If it were more in the style of Dog Whisperer or It's Me or the Dog I'd like it better, but it almost makes a joke out of the very serious problems some people have with their cats. But I do know that he usually carries 'stuff' and training aids in the guitar case.

Same thing over and over and over. Boyfriend/girlfriend living together can't agree on the cat, it likes one person more and is on the brink of "ruining the relationship". Like you said, I appreciate what he's doing, but this whole "Oooh, he's a hardcore rocker with tattoos, but wait! He actually loves cats!" Hauling around a guitar case helps add to the "I'm a hardcore rocker" get-up.

I like Pit Boss more...and that's saying something lol.

What is the best and fastest way to learn guitar?

I am getting a guitar for Christmas this year and I am really excited. I am 20 and have always been interested in playing but could never afford the instrument.

I know for sure my parents are getting me an acoustic guitar this year. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it will take me to learn how to play the guitar? Will I be able to learn it on my own or will i definitely need lessons?

How long will it take me to get decent at electric guitar?

I’ll assume by “decent”, you mean, capable of covering pretty much any intermediate level song tolerably well in a performance situation. I’m not saying Madison Square here, I’m saying maybe a garage band that people might actually like to hear. With really hard work, proper investment (get a half way decent guitar), carefully monitored practice and (also monitored) jamming, it can be done in about three years. That’s if you COMMIT. You’re pretty much practicing and playing every chance you get.I’ve been told here and there that this is a discouraging answer, I shouldn’t make it sound so hard. Hey you pick up a few chords and you can hang. What about timing, articulation, band awareness, basic theory and improvisation, knowledge of equipment, tone and dynamics, and so on?These things take time, patience, and practice….hours, and hours, and hours, of practice. We call it “woodshedding”.Tom Scholz (guitar player for Boston), said, “I can play Foreplay on keyboard, double time, effortlessly. But I always found guitar to be a difficult instrument to play.”And that’s Tom Scholz, a phenomenal musician and guitar player. How about Jimi Hendrix?“Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded.”If getting decent at guitar was easy, everybody would be decent at guitar. The reward, is the “hard”. Once you get over the hump and can actually play, you’re operating at a level many players never really get to. I know guys that have been playing for 30 years that still can’t hold a 12 bar blues.Anyway, yes, roughly three years of dedicated work, and again, that’s the fast track.

How hard is it to learn to play the guitar?

Hi,I’m a singer, who never thought about learning an instrument, but that had an acoustic guitar always around, which I did not play often because I thought I had to learn first how to play.Being a singer who writes lyrics on bands, I also love to create songs, but again without knowing how to play an instrument it is quite difficult.Anyway, I learned from friends and internet how to make open chords and lately how to do barre chords, some of these chords I can tell what they are, some other I have no idea.. I just move around my barre chords up and down, left and right.I never had a lesson, the far I went, was to pick some tab chords from other bands and tried to play it, like 2 or 3 times.Because of my interest on songwriting, I decided to play on the guitar, no matter how bad it could be, so after some months of playing on the guitar (not every day and not too longer), I was able to compose 5 songs and even made up a cover mixing Smells Like Teen Spirit with Knockin’ on Heavens Door - and I did perform those songs on a stage, live. You can see that live performance here - SigDórSo basically, learning guitar will be as hard as the level you are looking for, but I can assure you that once your fingers will be able to do power/barre chords (it will be very disappointing at the beginning, so practice a lot), you can have lot of fun. In my case, I avoid doing things I do not feel secure to do, like guitar solos…Have fun!Sérgio

How easy is it for an absolute beginner to learn bass compared to guitar?

Some principles are the same for both instruments, but at the same time, both instruments have a unique feel and a different role in a normal band.Starting with guitar might be slightly more fun as you can learn a few simple chords in a mater of days and a few strum patterns or fingering patterns in a matter of weeks. Bass requires you to mostly play single notes, which sounds easy in theory, and in actuality, it is easy when you play a song like Holiday by Green Day, but can be quite hard when playing a bassline like Billy Jean by MJ or Money by Pink Floyd (at least it’s going to be challenging to a beginner).Start off with what you like more and if you can afford both or have friends with different instrument, play both.I dare say that to a beginner, bass is harder because of the bigger, heavier strings which require more force to be pressed down, but it’s doable. There are many misconceptions about the bass being easier or being only an accompanying instrument. Another thing about bass is that it’s usually harder to get a solid backing for singing or do something impressive right off the bat as you usually play single notes instead of chords. Some of this is true to a degree, some of it can be tampered with, something is unavoidable. But just listen to this and give your own judgment:From personal experience, I started out with bass before doing guitar and I’ve never had any regrets. Both instruments are, to be honest, easy to play and only hard to master. They don’t compare to a fretless instrument or some wind instruments. But I guess that’s also what makes them special.
