Harman Kardon is one of the great brands in entertainment systems and dates back many decades. It was one of the top brands in stereo equipment from the 70’s through the 90’s but has been much less visible in recent years. Harman Kardon broke many barriers in audio technology such as high-current capacitors that could hold a charge so that when the music needed to push out sudden heavy bass notes like the cannons in the 1812 Overture the system had the power to deliver the best quality bass to the speakers. Lesser systems, in comparison, could potentially blow out the speakers because the demand on them was greater than what the amp could deliver. While the brand has taken a back seat in awareness lately, and doesn’t appear to have innovated to quite the same degree as it once did, the company’s equipment is still excellent. I would put it at the same level as Denon, Nakamichi and Bose. There are better brands than these, but only at much higher price levels.

Stax; Grado; Audio-Technica; Koss. You get what you pay for. notice that the greater useful headphones are electrostatic fashions, which hook up with the speaker outputs of your amplifier, and to no longer a headphone jack.
Does the Harman Kardon FM wired transmitter increase the quality of a Harman Kardon Drive + Play?
Those are both good brands and those are the two that I think would match best with Bose. The "twiddlers" in the Acoustimass system do not excel in bringing out high frequencies accurately. Denon and HK both excel in this so they would be a good match for your speakers. I have an old HK receiver in a music system that is outstanding. In the last 20 years though HK reliability has suffered. Even though they still sound good they have developed a reputation for service problems. Denon receivers, on the other hand, have a great sound and a solid reputation for reliability. I have a Denon in my main home theater now and am very pleased with it. If you shop around on the Internet you can find some great buys on Denon.
DO HARMAN/KARDON SPEAKERS WORK WITH WINDOWS 7?
A speaker is an output device, it doesn't need a driver. The PC doesn't give a damm about what make it is as long as its the right impedance. Have you tested the speakers on another device, i.e. an mp3 player? If they work on an mp3 player or similar then check you are plugged into the right connector, the mic input, headphone and line in sockets are all usually the same 3.5mmm stereo so its easy to confuse them..
Is harman/kardon a good brand?
Yes quite good. In the past the company was( and still are) very renown for high quality stereo speakers but HK also manufactures other related stereo products which are also generally well received. When you speak about acoustics, it boils down to the size of your room, your kind of material for the floor and wall as well. I’m not trying to pull a fast one here but this are things you need to look at as well.When you talk about sound wise, both companies are great in their own aspect but this boils down to what you are expecting? Honestly speaking, Bang & Olufsen has some kick ass speakers built with acoustic lens, you should go listen to them.Well if you are the kind that are looking at design and sound. Go for Bang & Olufsen then. You actually get the best of both worlds. Great Sound Great Design.But again, this boils down to how much are you willing to pay for a system.My advice will be for you to go have a listen on both systems and make a honest comparison. It is said and mentioned to deliver up to 5 hours of playback time from its fully charged 2600 mAh batteryI test speaker battery standby on my freind's Harmon kandon onyx Bluetooth speakerI used it in real time produces close to 2 to 3 hours approx and I charge it for 2hrs approx Yes, it doesn’t meet the manufacturer’s claimings standby time but nevertheless i have to point out that i have a tendency to crank up its volume more times than none.It’s worth mentioning that several portable Bluetooth speakers of this power have been able to get nearly double the amount of battery than this. Therefore, in a way, the battery life here as a whole is a bit lagging when compared to the competition and brand quality.In addition, it lacks the useful battery charging feature found on many same and equal Bluetooth speakersI tried it several time and not ed a solution of its standby time once it is charged in approx 2.15hrs it can stand up to 3hrs or even below Hope it helps
Bose Vs Harman Kardon?
If HK and Bose are the only choices then go with HK. Otherwise shop around. Don't look only at the speakers. If you want a complete system Look at Denon, Onkyo, or Yamaha. Even some of the less expensive Home Theater in a Box systems from Pioneer, Sony and Panasonic are better than Bose. Even the really low cost systems from Phillips that are around 250 bucks are probably nicer than Bose. Bose has really gone downhill in the past 20 years. My inlaws bought a Phillips system from walmart or something like that. Is it cheap? You bet! does it get the job done for them? Yes For me? Not even close. You have to consider really how important this is. The price range can go from ridiculously cheap to astronomically expensive. Consider what you guys really need. Tell him what you want to get him and go together shopping listen to the different systems and decide together. You are getting married right? You will be listening to it as well. Make it a gift to both of you from you. But if you your budget allows and you want to get him something really nice then look for a Denon receiver with a Klipsch speaker system packaged together. The store will do this from time to time take a look at the systems they have on display. Even better... Get a Definitive Technology speaker system along with your receiver.
