Hi Everyone,

I would like to buy Kudzu plants/seeds, but everywhere I look, I only see Kudzu destroying products for sale. No plants.

I am quite aware of the rapid growth and the capabilities of this invasive species, so please don't tell me why not to buy it. I need it for observation purposes in a closed environment.

Please help me identify my houseplant!!!?

I'm sorry about the loss of your grandmother.

Your plant is a Nephthytis podophyllum, also sometimes classified as Syngonium podophyllum. It needs bright filtered light. The most important part of caring for it is not to overwater it. Let the soil dry between waterings. Eventually you will need to feed it with general purpose houseplant food, and when you repot it, use a good quality potting soil and a slightly larger pot.

What apps identify plants if you take a picture of the plant?

Current best rated expert-based mobile app is called FlowerChecker which uploads taken photo to team of botanists. Then it displays their answer (so it is paid and human-based).For free automatic identification, there is a web service Plant.id which can identify 8000 most common species with ~ 80% accuracy. It is basically cutting-edge of image recognition. There are also other apps, with lower ratings and different pricing worth trying. To summarise:FlowerChecker (Android and iOS) expert-based and paid,Plant.id (web service) free and machine-learning based,PlantNet Plant Identification (Android) fully automatic,Garden Compass (iOS) both automatic and human-based,Leafsnap (iOS) more like field guide,GardenAnswers (Android) both automatic and human-based.

Zygote development in flowering plants (Angiosperms)?

Like in mammals, plant embryogenesis involves the division, growth, and differentiation of the zygote.

However, in angiosperms, one of the big differences is that the zygote develops into two distinct structures that form a seed, those being the embryo and the endosperm, which provides nutrients for the embryo to sprout later on.

Another major difference is that double fertilization is fairly common in angiosperms, whereas in mammals, fertilization of the egg by one sperm results in a change of membrane potential which triggers signaling events to block polyspermy.

If you want to go a little bit deeper and look at the genetics, the genes which regulate development are also different and are expressed at different locations and levels.

This lecture has some good stuff about plant embryogenesis in it.
