After working as a Windows server system administrator for 10 years and some VMware vSphere administration, how can I plan my career path from here?

As IT Infrastructure technologies are getting converged (Compute, Storage, Network), I feel even System Administrators have to learn all these technologies to be competitive in the market.IT Companies are expecting that System Administrators be comfortable with Windows/Linux, Network and Storage technologies. It need not be at an SME level on all 3, but if you are good in Compute as System Administrator (L3/SME level), have L2 level skills on Network and Storage. Virtualization skills have become mainstream so you cannot boast about it.Managing a Windows server using GUI may not be a preferred way in future and you HAVE to be good in PowerShell scripting. Windows 2016 does have a Nano version (excludes GUI) and only Admins with PowerShell knowledge will be able to manage it.Coming to Cloud Technologies, I feel every organization will have some foot print on cloud computing. Sign-up to AWS and create your own instance and start testing it. You will come to know about so many features that Cloud computing offers. You can then try Azure and try to spot the differences. It will help in learning. It is not easy to manage Cloud computing just with AWS or Azure web based GUI. If you are managing too many instances, think of learning Amazon CLI and JSON (apart from PowerShell). I know its not easy but that is where we are heading. So to summarize:Stage 1: Learn Linux (minimum 3 flavors)Stage 2: Network and Compute TechnologiesStage 3: Powershell scripting (try managing everything from prompt)Stage 4: AWS/Azure CloudStage 5: Scripting knowledge on Amazon CLI and JSON

How to get painting program to work (asks for administrator password)?

To be honest, you may need your own computer to bypass this.

PaintTool Sai is very particular about who can access it. Just a programmer's idea I guess.

If you make it as 'Run this program as admin' you'd still have to type in the password because of the fact that the computer want's the password to run it as an administrator only for the fact that Vista/7 (I'm assuming that's what you're using judging by what you've clicked.) wants to verify even more that you're the administrator. So that's why that option isn't working.

But, a solution may be just around the corner.

Try this...

1) Right click the program (in this case P.T.S.) and go to 'Properties'.

2) Go to the 'Security' tab. click advanced.

3) A new window should pop up. Go to the 'Owner' tab.

4) Click edit. Then click 'Other users or groups'.

5) Another window should pop up. Click 'Locations' and select your PC name (e.x. John-PC or Jane-LAPTOP).

6) Click 'Advanced'

7)Click 'Find Now'

8)Look for your username under 'Search Results'.

9) Click 'Ok', then on the last window that popped up, click 'Ok'.

10) Click 'Apply on the window that was opened before the 'Other users and groups' Window. Then 'Ok'

If that doesn't work, try this...

1) Right click the program (in this case P.T.S.) and go to 'Properties'.

2) Go to the 'Security' tab. Click 'Edit'

3) Go to your computer name* (*refer to step 5)

4) Check the box 'Full Control'.

5) Click 'Apply'

6) Click 'Ok'

What this just did is give either permissions for you to use that program without having to type in the password every single time, or have you take ownership of it-meaning that you can do anything and everything to that file [PaintTool Sai]

And remember, you'll need to be in your mom's account to do this, since she's the administrator.

How do I resolve a "code 10 device could not start" error in Windows Vista (Digital Camera)?

I have a Kodak Z915 digital camera that is recognized by Vista, but in the device manager it has an exclamation point over the camera icon. When I double-click on the icon, it says "Device could not start (Code 10)". I hooked it up to my home computer with XP Service Pack 3 and it worked fine, so that leads me to believe it's a driver issue with Vista. I have tried to:

Install/un-install/re-install the Kodak Easyshare Software (latest version and version that came on CD)
Un-install/re-install the driver (both with and without restarting the computer)
Un-install the USB port drivers/restart/let Vista re-install the USB port drivers
Open a command prompt and type "Net localgroup Administrators Service /add"

None of these solutions have worked. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know a card reader would be the easiest solution, but it should work without having to do that.

What are the course which will help with my job?

Hi Kapil,I guess you didn't started your career as System Admin. For a system admin it may took at least 2 years of experience. Considering this I may point out following things:Considering your 2 years of experience over all, I guess you are aware of current technology. and if you are a system admin then definitely you are working on Virtualization. If you are good in that or have interest in that then i suggest you to go with VMware certification/Hyper-V Certification/ Citrix Certification. Citrix is slightly tough among them.I consider you have knowledge of Windows Server also (Server 2k12). If you are good in understanding Servers and managing them then I suggest go for MCSA and then MCSE.A system admin must be aware of network component in a organization. Scope of system admin is not limited. If you feel, you are good in networking then I suggest go for CCNA, CCNP. You may also go for Network Security and Ethical Hacking in future. You may also consider Comptia+ certification. Comptia offers a long list of entry level certification. Such as A+ for Hardware Technician, Network+ for Network Admins and Security+ for Security Specialists. Considering your field I suggest Comptia Server+ certificate. If you want to go with Microsoft Office tools then I suggest try to go with Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate. It will help you to administer O365.There are many more but I only mention some basic and useful in your career growth. I wish you a great future ahead. Thanks,Arvind Chouhan
