Manchester United fans are not in a position to prioritize the style of play over results. Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester united, the team has undergone a massive change in their mentality and personnel. They seemed to be craving for an identity under Van Gaal with their possession football only for the board to lose their patience and sack the veteran manager. They opted to clean the slate and pursue a fresh start under Mourinho.However, the price Manchester united had to pay for enjoying the credit as title challengers this year is a heavy one. They have spent close to 640 million Pounds in transfer fees alone in the last five years. Three largest marquee players’(Sanchez, Ibrahimovic and Falcao) wage packages are not included in this amount. The rest of the wage packages are also not included which are generally considered very high in comparison to other premier league teams. All these millions have just given United an average league position of 5th in last five years.So the counter argument would be, “Can’t even 640 million pounds bring attacking football to Old trafford” !? No!
