Hi People Have To Do A Presentation And I Want To Do It On The Social Identity Of Football Fans

Why do all these 'so called' Man United fans stick up for Mourinho all the time when they know he plays the most boring, negative football on the planet?

Manchester United fans are not in a position to prioritize the style of play over results. Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester united, the team has undergone a massive change in their mentality and personnel. They seemed to be craving for an identity under Van Gaal with their possession football only for the board to lose their patience and sack the veteran manager. They opted to clean the slate and pursue a fresh start under Mourinho. However, the price Manchester united had to pay for enjoying the credit as title challengers this year is a heavy one. They have spent close to 640 million Pounds in transfer fees alone in the last five years. Three largest marquee players’(Sanchez, Ibrahimovic and Falcao) wage packages are not included in this amount. The rest of the wage packages are also not included which are generally considered very high in comparison to other premier league teams. All these millions have just given United an average league position of 5th in last five years. So the counter argument would be, “Can’t even 640 million pounds bring attacking football to Old trafford” !? No! There ain’t going to be an attacking identity for the club for sometime.David moyes was trying to create a balanced team, Van gaal wanted to create a balanced team as well and they both failed miserably in their task. Now Mourinho is favoring for an openly defensive outfit and it is their best team in half a decade. So United fans know that they can’t be too critical of their manager and are in a ‘when fortune smiles, embrace her’ mode. Mourinho is their fortune and their only option right now. Don’t be surprised if they chant GGMU, Glory Glory Mourinho’s United! With Mourinho, questioning the style of football or questioning the manager for team selection or something else will won’t work. He is never known for creating a rapport with his club’s fan base. The fans either take his side for the results that he delivers or stay neutral, rational and see him as an over ambitious manager. When they chose Mourinho to arrest their decline, the United board also gave up their club’s identity and this shows, how desperate they were for good results. No Bus, No party!

Which literary devices are present in the poem World Cup by Alan Ross?

The tone is conversational (ordinary words) but slightly elevated (rather more educated words 'balletic', 'crudity' 'protagonist- - than you would get in a random piece of natural language).

The poem is also celebratory (it takes for granted that football is a good thing) and collusive (since the English World Cup team of 1966 is being celebrated, this poem is mainly for English supporters born between (say) 1900 and 1958 - the poem is 'laddish').

There is no special use of literary devices. There are metaphors (a kind of music - it isn't really music, it is football), artificial viewpoints (seem from above to be pushed like counters), similes (like counters) and oxymoron ('they demonstrate / how art exists on many levels' : relatively few people would consider art and football to the the same thing - especially at the period when this poem was written). But any literary techniques used might just as easily be found in educated prose (though perhaps not as densely).

Ross probably intended his presentation of football as an art, and possibly even as a religion (spirit and matter close-knit) to be paradoxical. But changes in cultural attitudes since the poem was written make this identification seem less interesting now than it would have at the time.

The most interesting feature of this poem is how it functions as a class-identifier. It appeals to a tiny in-group (English football fans of the early twentieth century) and encourages them to identify themselves as distinct from all outgroups (Brazilians, Basketball followers, women).

It is a private members poem, and serves all the same social functions as a really dirty joke.
